I bought it some time ago at Amazon and if I remember correctly, it was around
$120, but now just $102.

Amazon.com: Plantronics - Voyager 5200 UC (Poly) - Bluetooth Single-Ear
(Monaural) Headset - USB-A Compatible to connect to your PC and/or Mac - Works
with Teams, Zoom

 & more - Noise Canceling : Electronics

If you are looking for good noise cancelling, this is not a strong point.

The Plantronics 5200 is a single ear device and the battery life is good for a
BT headset. I use it often on Zoom calls and everyone says the sound is clear
and the volume is fine. I also have plenty of volume on my end. There are a few
different models of this headset and I have the one which can be used with a BT
dongle and has the charging case.

I have been very pleased with the device and prefer it to any of the
Aftershockx I have tried, but admit I have not tried the Open Comm model. Tried
two other Aftershockx and thought the volume too low and the sound quality only
fair.

As always it is a matter of personal choice.

I tried a pare from Amazon as well as directly from Aftershokz. I’m on the
phone all day for my business and there were quite a few people who said the
same. Sounded too far, muffled and in general not close or crisp. My experience
is similar to this guy’s YouTube review: https://youtu.be/8FLOK_Eymo8 I wanted
them to work, but for $160, I just wasn’t convinced with the call quality
feedback I was receiving. It seems call quality and the lack of a mute button
are common complaints for people who end up returning them. I know there’s a
janky mute function by pressing multiple buttons etc., but it just feels too
clunky. A simple dedicated mute button would make a world of difference.
Especially for a headset that’s marketed for WFH and teleworking in general.

If you find it works for you, then that’s great. It just wasn’t the case for
me. I ended up going back to my Plantronics 5200 headset.

But again, as far as fit and comfort, the opencomm feel like they’ve got more

Hi,

I have to agree with the others here. I have had very good results with the
Open Comm and those I called all said they could hear me fine. To confirm this,
I called two people using both the Open Comm and my Trex Titanium and they both
said it was much clearer with the Open Comm.

At first, it did take me a bit to realize that the boom actually turns from
back to front. When I first got them, the boom arm was turned back to lay along
the side of the Open Comm. I had to rotate the boom arm to come around to the
front and then all went well. I'm wondering if perhaps you tried them with the
boom arm still turned back on itself. This would have put the microphone back
behind your ear and would have produced a poor signal. Just a thought.
Otherwise, perhaps you ended up with a defective set.

Simon is in New Zealand, I don't know where you live, but when people ask about
where to buy things and how much they cost they really should include their
location. Anyways, assuming you live in the United States the answer is the
same as with all tech items, check Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Walmart and stores
like that.
I usually encourage people to ask questions on these mailing lists, but your
question basically means you are asking somebody to look it up for you because
even if somebody bought the headset recently and remembers the price, that does
not mean it still costs the same especially with Black Friday getting closer
and Amazon and other large retailers already offering early deals.

Yes I use a voyager 5200 with BT dongle and have the charging box also,

I used this as a headset when working on a service desk with no issues reported
from contacts or my own reports,

I use it now for zoom calls and no one has trouble hearing me or I them,

Plus with the charging box I get approx. 10 hours of usage of course depending
on how long i’m on calls.

I love it for these reasons,

And it is as said a single ear device,
With simple controls,

Which allows me to have a second device talking to me in the other ear at the
same time.

janky mute function by pressing multiple buttons etc., but it just feels too
clunky. A simple dedicated mute button would make a world of difference.
Especially for a headset that’s marketed for WFH and teleworking in general.

If you find it works for you, then that’s great. It just wasn’t the case for

Tried
two other Aftershockx and thought the volume too low and the sound quality only
fair.

As always it is a matter of personal choice.

when the boom mic is near the mouth.
My guess is the mic was poorly positioned, hence letting in the background

RE: AfterShokz headset question

2021-11-06 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
I don’t know who said that you can’t mute, but it sure wasn’t me. The process
that I call janky to mute is my opinion, but I’m not the only one to have the
same opinion. This is a common theme with feedback from folks who weren’t
entirely convinced or had gripes about the headset.

Also, it wasn’t me who said the headset was too quiet. Again, that was the
feedback I got from others on the other end of the call. Cell phone to cell
phone, my iPhone or laptop to cell phones, land line etc. The call quality on
my end was no different that the Aeropex, but again, folks on the other end had
trouble hearing me.

I’m going to pass on giving them an another shot as you suggest since I already
bought a set from Amazon and directly from AfterShokz as I’d mentioned
previously.

To reiterate, I like the concept, the fit was comfortable and would give them
another try if and when Aftershokz comes out with version 2.0, but for$160 for
a headset specifically marketed and “designed” for WFH and other working
environments, they were and again, for me, just not convincing. Maybe at $80 or
whatever, sure, but not for $160.

If you find they work for you though, that’s great.

Cristobal,

I don't know if you watched this video or not, but he did not sound quiet
at all when he reviewed the headset. Moreover, his complaint was that the
headset didn't have noise cancellation, not that the headset was too quiet.

I still think that you should probably give them another shot if you think
they are too quiet. In no situation are they too quiet.

As for the mute function, it is a press of two buttons, nothing janky about
them. I can understand that you might want a single button, but saying that
they cannot mute is just wrong.

These weren't made to be used in a call center environment, by the way,
they are intended for use while out and about, for bike riders, for people
who need to hear what is going on in their environment.

Listen to that review of yours, and you'll see that the quality is pretty
decent, and far above that $30 headset he was comparing against.

Can we confirm that you are talking about the opencomms because if that is
the case, I am very surprised you are having any issues. In fact, you are
the first person that I have come across with such problems. Now, if you

coming from. Also, there is a mute button on the open commerce so I'm not
sure where you are getting it from?

used, the other will be.

This might sound like a stupid question, but when you listen to music,
books or just a screen reader using this headset, can other people hear
what you're listening to when they are close; on the bus/train for example?

The question is not stupid. If you are in a very quiet environment, there
will be some sound leakage, but not much at all. On a bus or train, there
isn't really any sound leakage. I wear these in the office, and people
around me can't hear anything.

Please, where can I hear how the microphone sounds?

I demonstrated these on a podcast episode a few months ago. The easiest way
to get to the content is to check out the YouTube video, and to skip to
about 31 minutes into the video, as the first part of the video is
dedicated to the Samsung S21 Ultra. The link to the YouTube version is at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFKo_RiUUcc

I think the microphone does deliver a better result than other

Hello Maria,

I am personally a fan of the Aftershokz OpenComm headset,
simply because it is similar to their other headsets,
particularly the Aeropex, with an added boom mic, which
greatly enhances the experience for phone calls. Their last
few generations have included multi-pairing, and this includes
the OpenComm.

Thanks.

2021-11-05 Thread Dave Clement

Hello Maria,

I am personally a fan of the Aftershokz OpenComm headset, simply because it is
similar to their other headsets, particularly the Aeropex, with an added boom
mic, which greatly enhances the experience for phone calls. Their last few
generations have included multi-pairing, and this includes the OpenComm.

Thanks.

Does any model have multipoint function, so that I can have paired two

Thank you for your help in advance.

Re: AfterShokz headset question

2021-11-05 Thread Dave Clement
Hi,

I find the Open Comm head band to be very comfortable, more so than the band on
my Trex Titanium. Just how flexible it is I can't say for sure as I did not
need to try to alter it.

I think the microphone does deliver a better result than other models. It is at
the end of a pivoting boom arm and thus is closer to your mouth. The boom arm
also contains a secondd microphone which is used to do some noise cancellation
functions. This really helps deliver a clear vocal input signal when you are in
a loud or noisy environment.

RE: AfterShokz headset question

2021-11-05 Thread Richard Turner
Nimer, or anyone else,
Is the OpenComm headphones any more adjustable than the Aeropex? My head is
slightly too large to where the aeropex comfortably.

It sounds like the microphone is a huge improvement in these.
