Esther, Thank you for the compliment. I'm very happy to hear that you find TapTapSee so useful. Once we send out the next update with all of the fixes, please be sure to review the app in the AppStore. It really helps us go up in the store rankings. Re: Dont recommend updating to IOS 7
Hello, At the moment there are a couple of bugs in TapTapSee that we are aware of and are working on fixing in the next update. We hope to release the update this week. One of the current bugs is triggered by the flash. However, if you take a picture of an object in a well lit environment then TapTapSee will work properly. We're also aware of the issue with the Repeat button. That will also get resolved in the next update. Re: Dont recommend updating to IOS 7
The only bug that I've experienced this when swiping through things, voice over can jump all over the place some times. Also when first unlocking my phone, if I swipe through the controls, voiceover does not always read everything. I have to flick left to get to read the appropriate items. Re: Dont recommend updating to IOS 7
Hi Cara, It seems to me that the weakness of this release of iOS 7, not to mention many many releases of android, is that the developers of the OS don't take the time to document it and put that documentation out there for the public. That would include all accessibility change documentation. Somewhere somebody got the idea that nobody is willing to read documentation, and that everybody prefers to mumble and bumble and grumble around the OS to find out what is new. To me, that seems absurd. Okay. Not everybody wants to read in-depth documentation. But for those of us who do, it seems a shame that the opportunity is denied us. Re: Dont recommend updating to IOS 7
Hi John and list. While I agree completely, let me also offer the precept that iOS has always been built on its ability to be easily discoverable. -And for me at least, in iOS 7 so far, the level of what I consider to be good discoverability is less than I'd like. However, rather than go into details now, I'm holding my thoughts for a while for exactly the reason John puts across in this note. While I personally find this version of iOS way less discoverable I also feel that not only is this just the first release of this incarnation of iOS, but also I do think there needs to be more than a 24 hour period for me to draw lasting conclusions about this, if for no other reason than not all features are obvious to everyone at this point. So while I do have my impressions, as we all do, I know there's a lot I'll be learning as well. So there's my point of view for the moment. :) Thanks for all the great posts both from those who like / do not like iOS 7 so far. That's part of what this list is for after all! Re: Dont recommend updating to IOS 7
If by losing focus you mean VoiceOver seems a little jumpy, I'd say yes, that is my experience. Its a bit sensitive or perhaps over responsive. I like the new app switcher and also all the punctuation on the on screen keyboard speaks again. For a few versions, you had to turn punctuation on to hear the comma and such on the keyboard. That was not the case in earlier versions of voice over. Re: Dont recommend updating to IOS 7
I mean absolutely no offense, but you really have to read documentation and understand what has changed before jumping to conclusions. I will address your 5 points and explain what I mean. 1. In Accessibility settings, turn on, reduce motion. This will speed up the speed of the phone with VoiceOver. 2. Yes, VoiceOver sounds are different. You are basing your recommendation on personal opinion. Like anything else, you get used to them. Change is not always comfortable for folks, but human beings tend to adapt to change in the long run. I have already. 3. There is a separate control for silencing VoiceOver sounds independently or having them remain on. 4. I think point 1 might help with the focus issues. Not sure though because I haven’t experienced this myself. 5. Again, your opinion. There are a lot of changes to the interface that make iOS 7 worth the upgrade. The handwriting feature, the 4-finger double tap to start VO practice mode, the Control Center, the new layout to Calendars and Reminders, the new SIRI voices and the expansion of what you can do with SIRI, and several others. Learn about iOS 7 and use it for a few weeks before jumping to conclusions in 24 hours of use. It’s funny how I read posts like this with every iOS upgrade and Mac upgrade. I know for a fact I still haven’t learned all of the new things yet and am discovering changes every time I use my iPhone and iPad. Take Care John D. I'm still on the fence about updating, but I think I will eventually. I, too, I'm a bit apprehensive about all the bug reports I've been hearing, but overall, I think it should be okay. The one that concerns me the most is that touchscreen sensitivity thing. I hear it's affecting sighted users as well. I'm really looking forward to the fact that I can turn off on-the-fly translation of Braille. The expansion of contractions after a few seconds of not typing, and then typing some more really frustrates me. I'm also really looking forward to the control center. Also, I'm pretty excited to try out the handwriting feature. If nothing else, at least it'll be an interesting way to input text, although I don't think I'll be relying on it exclusively. RE: Dont recommend updating to IOS 7
Hi James, Pete, Shane and others, I think Maria and Raul have given good examples of all the fantastic new iOS 7 features. I have a 4S and the only thing which might be a bit slower is opening apps and by a bit I really mean just a touch. Locking my phone I find is instant when I press the lock key. The Voiceover sounds not going silent with the mute switch I think is a big improvement since I might not want my phone to ring, but I like having the feedback from the sounds and as Maria said, you can always ad sounds to the rotor and turn them on/off that way. Control Center is of course awesome and the fact SIRI now acts much more like when you use it without Voiceover is also very good. I can, for example, now create a reminder or send a text message and I don't have to press and hold the home key when I want to confirm the reminder or send the message, SIRI asks and then listens just as it does without Voiceover. I know people like Raul often said that if they wanted to use SIRI a lot they would unload Voiceover to get this functionality. Also, and I haven't seen this mentioned, if I am now in message 53 of 58 in my email Inbox and open it, I can now tap Back or do the scrub gesture and focus stays on message 53 instead of going back up to the top of the list--a nice little fix for something we asked for. Also, multiple HQ voices and being able to select a default voice independently from region settings is something many of us wanted and now got. Facetime Audio is not a accessibility feature just as Control Center is not, but I think it's awesome that I can now call family members and friends who I know have iDevices and just have an audio conversation at super high quality without having to use Skype. I think overall this first release of iOS 7 is probably the best ever first release of an iOS version with the least amount of serious bugs both generally speaking and Voiceover specific bugs. Re: Dont recommend updating to IOS 7
I don't have any comments except with your issue #5. There are definitely new features in IOS 7 such as iTunes Radio, the Control Center, multiple pages in folders, the hand writing input method, more things you can do with Siri and quite a bit more. You may not use these features yourself, or you may not think they're worth upgrading to get to, but they are there. On 09/19/2013 10:32 AM, Lea Langley wrote: Hi, try not to get discouraged. Re: Dont recommend updating to IOS 7
James, I've got to agree, I haven't Updated anything myself yet, because everything that I've been Reading so far, has pretty much been a Compilation of bug after bug after bug with VoiceOver and iOS 7. Now sure I understand that with any minor or major update, there's going to be some hiccups within the OS and VO, but it just seems that as of right now, the negatives out way the positives. Maybe this will change in a near future update, However, I think for me as of right now, I'm going to stay with 6.13 until I hear of another update and some bug fixes concerning VO. Re: Dont recommend updating to IOS 7
Hi, I guess it's a matter of opinion. I have a 4s with iOS 7 and find the iPad like sounds to be a great addition. Also, it's great to see new features added in iOS which jailbreaking was necessary to get in prior versions. For example the Control Center. The jailbreak equivalent is SB Settings, and that gives you a chance to quickly turn on and off certain things without going into settings. It does more than that, but basically the control center adds this functionality. The background monitoring and updating of apps is a great thing because apps like GV Connect for Google Voice can now alert you of new text messages in your Google Voice number. Previously you had to use a third-party service like Boxcar or Push 4.0 to get this functionality. Slower? I don't see that happening on the 4s. So if you are seeing that on the 5, then perhaps something is up with your specific phone. It's an opinion for sure, but I'm actually more excited about iOS 7 than I was about iOS 6 and iOS 5. I think Apple have done a great job and I'm certainly not what you would call a Apple fanboy. -- Raul A. Re: Dont recommend updating to IOS 7
HI. I am not experiencing these issues. Not criticising at all. On my 4s the focus is a little better I think then it was in iOS 6. Features that I think are really good are the control centre, the new notification centre and improvements to siri. I like the way siri activates automatically when you've dictated a message etc. the karen voice sounds a little strange but I expect I'll get used to that. I also like the fact that vo can be turned on and off with siri now. Don't know how much I'll use it, but being able to turn the vo sounds on and off is kind of cool as well. Haven't found anything I really dislike yet.
