And remember that especially Sunrise/Sunset is not available in certain
positions. I like the Info Graph watch face because it allows me to have the
most complications, but you can have sunset/sunrise only on one of the main
positions like top left, top right etc., not in the other ones whatever they
are called.

Hi people,

I am curious about a few things. When I first got this watch,
mindfulness would pop up twice a day and remind me to breathe or the other
option was reflect. Now, it hasn't reminded me since yesterday, and I miss
the little pest. is that because it isn't on my watch face any more? It is
on one that is not my current face though. I also noticed when going in to
the mindfulness app, there is a more button that shows you a button to
change duration and the tip says, here are some ways you can enhance a
reflect or breathe session, depending which one you are in. However, when
you tap on this, nothing happens. Any ideas why? Also, I wondered about
the blood oxygen app and how to read your pulse, heart rate and anything
else like that. Not that I need it but am just more curious about it. If
someone wants to respond off list, that would be fine. I'm just curious
about things like that and have looked but haven't found things like
notifications Or how to set some of this stuff up. I have been told that
some of this can be set up in the fitness app, but when I go there, I only
see summary and fitness plus. I am not interested in sharing and so that
option doesn't interest me either. I am also curious as to how to set up
moon phases and sunrise and sunset. There is a lot in this message and I
hope it isn't to much. Thanks much.

depending which one you are in. However, when you tap on this, nothing
happens. Any ideas why? Also, I wondered about the blood oxygen app and how
to read your pulse, heart rate and anything else like that. Not that I need it
but am just more curious about it. If someone wants to respond off list, that
would be fine. I'm just curious about things like that and have looked but
haven't found things like notifications Or how to set some of this stuff up. I
have been told that some of this can be set up in the fitness app, but when I
go there, I only see summary and fitness plus. I am not interested in sharing
and so that option doesn't interest me either. I am also curious as to how to
set up moon phases and sunrise and sunset. There is a lot in this message and
I hope it isn't to much. Thanks much.

RE: A few questions about earphones or headphones for iPhones

2021-08-12 Thread Richard Turner
If you are talking about plugging headphones in that have a 3.5 MM jack and the
iPhone only has the lightning ort, it is called an adapter, 3.5 to lightning
that Amazon probably sells, but it is probably about the same $10 through Apple
and you could be sure you are getting the right one.

Your friend should check the settings under audio or maybe it is under hearing,
there is a place where you can adjust the balance between left and right. IF
they got into that area accidentally, they could have changed it so it was out
of balance.

There are so many hundreds of headphones options no one on this list can tell
you what to buy.

You need to decide if you want wireless, wired, or what and whether you want
in-ear or over the ear, and how much you want to spend as you can spend
anywhere from probably $10 to $550.

Hi all, first let me ask what are the things called that goes between your
earphones and the iPhone? Can I get that thing on amazon? I hope that made
sense. Also, I know someone who has a pair of airpods and the volume on the
left ear for some odd reason went way low. We've tried unpairing and pairing
them again but it didn't work. So any suggestions would be appreciated.
Also, if anyone could let me know what to buy instead of airpods. Thanks.

Anna is right. On my I Phone eleven with the latest IOS 14, the four digit
option is under Passcode Options. The four digit passcode is one option.

Hi Jen,

Yes, Face ID is easy to set up with VoiceOver running. You get prompts the
whole way. During the setup process, you'll be prompted to set it up. If it's
already set up, you can go into Settings and do it. Make sure your room is well
lit, and then follow the prompts. Face ID works fine in the dark once it's set
up, but my experience with the iPhone X is that having a good amount of light

enter your passcode occasionally, mostly after a restart. The rest of the time,

It could be it is gone in iOS 14.
Perhaps someone with an 11 can chime in.

In the passcode settings, there should be some thing that says passcode
options. activate that and I think you may still find the four digit option
available. But six digits is far more secure.

Hi Jen,

Yes, Face ID is easy to set up with VoiceOver running. You get prompts the
whole way. During the setup process, you'll be prompted to set it up. If it's
already set up, you can go into Settings and do it. Make sure your room is well

up, but my experience with the iPhone X is that having a good amount of light
while you're setting it up helps. Once you have it set up, you only need to
enter your passcode occasionally, mostly after a restart. The rest of the time,
it uses Face ID. There is no Touch ID on the 11.

RE: A few questions re iPhone 11

2020-10-03 Thread Richard Turner
Jan, you said:
Hi,
Got an iPhone 11 and am wondering where dictation settings are located.
* They should be in the Siri settings where you can turn on dictation.

Where I do I find wifi assist.
* WiFi Assist is near the bottom of the cellular settings.

Is there touch id for iPhone and if so how do I enable it.
* No touch ID on the 11. You would use Face ID and/or a passcode.

Is face id easily accessible for someone with no vision to set up.
* I have no vision and was able to set it up. I had vision until I was 12, so
I don't know if that made a difference.
Just follow the prompts.

Can you have the pass code only used when I turn on my phone instead of
everytime I unlock my phone.
* Yes, if you use Face ID. If you don't use Face ID, then no, it will need the
passcode each time you unlock your phone.
If you use Face ID, I recommend turning off the Requires Attention setting, but
leave on Attention Aware in the Face ID settings.
Requires attention means you have to be looking at the phone pretty much
exactly the same way as when you set it up.
Turning that off, means if you are slightly angled, it will still recognize you.

Richard.

I have ATT for land line and cell service, and the app is manageable, though I
am not an expeert in it. I have been paying my cell bill through the app, but
have not yet been able to add the land line. I'll probably have to call for
help with that.

Subject: a few questions on att accessibility

Hey all,

So I'm switching over to att tomorrow, and I had a question. Does att, like
comcast's Xfinity, have accessible apps and tv boxes? With Comcast, we have
talking xfinity box, and the app aren't bad when it comes to voiceover
navigation. however I can't really check anything on att's side as I don't have
the installation ready yet. I'm only subscribed to internet now, but who knows,
I'll probably end up trying their tv and phone services if their internet is
good. DO you guys recommend them for phone and tv service? if so, should I go
with directtv, or u-verse for the tv portion? thanks in advance for any help.
tc all.

but ultimately these Playlists are curated content so it depnds on your taste.
As for Voiceover coming through the Bose speaker that can't be changed, any
Bluetooth speaker will stream any audio and you would need an Airplay/Airplay 2

the speaker and Voiceover remains on the phone. Personally I find there is good
use for both.

Yes, at the top of the list will be the apps with the most amount of storage
taken up.
If you click on that app's listing, with a button at the end of the line; you
can delete the app, it's down towards the bottom of the page.

everything to get a general idea?

Thanks. Also, is there a command to text say if I'm reading an article,

Hi,
Slight correction. iPads can only be locked with the side switch, not through
the control center.

2017-02-22 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Shane,

The apps are listed in order, with the one that takes up the most room listed
first.

Flick up with two fingers to have VoiceOver start reading at the top of the
page and keep going until the end, or flick down with two fingers to have it
start at your current location and go to the end.

You might want to check out the guides and podcasts at AppleVis
(www.applevis.com ), among others, or my Getting
Started with the iPhone book at National Braille Press (www.nbp.org
) for more VoiceOVer commands, or download the manual from
the iBooks store.

Best,
Anna

Hi Anna,

So if I'm understanding you correctly, when I am looking through what is
possibly taking up most of my storage, will the stuff that's taking up the most
amount of storage be listed first? Or do I have to look through pretty much
everything to get a general idea?

And also, is there a voice over command but I can execute to have my iPad read
to me and article all the way through?
Thanks. Also, is there a command to text say if I'm reading an article,

Re: A few questions.

2017-02-22 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Shane,

To find out what's on your iPad, go to Settings, choose General, then Storage &
iCloud Usage. Choose Manage Storage to see a list of everything on your iPad,
with whatever is taking the most space listed first. You can delete things from
that screen by double-tapping them and choosing the Delete option.

To lock your iPad orientation, touch the status bar and flick up with three
fingers to open Control Center. You'll find the Lock Orientation control there.

The About option in the General section of Settings gives you information about
the iOS version you are running. There is a model number there as well. YOu
could probably search for iPad followed by the model number online to find out
which generation it is.

Best,
Anna

RE: A few questions about settings for iPhone SE

2017-01-07 Thread Cris Ali
Hi Jen,
To remove an app double tap and hold on the app until you hear edit. Then
double tap and you will be asked if you want to remove the ap. Press ok and it
will go.
To turn off Raise to wake up the phone, you go to settings and then display and
brightness. You can turn off this feature there. I personally love this
feature. Instead of constantly pressing the power or the home key and damage
them with too much use, I just rais the phone a bit.
Cheers,
Cris

If you're talking about the wigits/today view accessible from the lock screen,
do a three-finger flick to the right. Hope this helps. I hope I answered your
question.

Thanks,

2016-09-14 Thread Lois Butterfield
Hi Jennifer,

If you go to the notification center, you can see the widgets that are
available to add. Depending on the apps you have, there may be several.

Take care,

In fact, the switch unmutes and mutes the ringer, and allert sounds. In
settings, you can change this to lock and unlock orientation.

As to seconds, I don't think you can do that. It's odd not to have them, when
you come from a notetaker, but it honestly becomes a non-issue very quickly. If
you need exact timing, open up the Clock app and use the Stopwatch tab to track
time.

2015-10-08 Thread Rajmund
Hello,
Well, its not a big issue as you have said, but since 2012, since I have
devices, I'm used to hearing the seconds. As you have said elsewhere, its
relieving, but also sad to leave them behind. I'm the same. I'm missing a few
things, but on the other hand, when I gave safari a spin on whatbrowser.net , I
just looked around, and couldn't think what to say. Everything is just much
more updated.

Hi

No not for the first question, yes for the second. The side switch by
default mutes or unmutes system sounds. That is all sounds except for
VoiceOver and sounds from apps such as the stock Music app. Having said
that sounds produced by apps like games may or may not be muted
depending on the app. To change this behaviour go to settings > general

Re: A few questions or techniques about operating the Plantronics voyager legend headset please

2015-03-22 Thread Alan J Paganelli
All I use the Plantronics Voyager Legend is to answer and make phone calls.
Granted you can rout all audio through the Legend and that's what I want.
When I need to use my phone for an app a text message etc, that's when I
take my phone out of my pocket. The Legend is limited to 7 hours of talk
time. My use on my iPhone going through the Legend is only a means of
private listening. For example, I can be listening to a NLS Talking Book.
On a lower volume setting on the Legend, I can walk down the street and
still hear sounds around me as well as my book.

right away it won't speak. Is this the way it's supposed to work? Also, when
I try to process the answer call to make a call that doesn't work either. It
just beeps at me. Do I need to cancel the voice command before I do anything
else? Also, is the headset supposed to be able to start Siri so you can make
a call with Siri on the headset? If so how does that work please. I have the
manual but there are some things in it I just don't understand yet so any
help or or any place where I can look up the information would be greatly
appreciated any others suggestions also would be appreciated God bless, Wren

With handwriting: you swipe up/down with 3 fingers to switch between
lowercase, uppercase, numbers and punctuation. Swipe left with two
fingers to delete. There is currently a bug when you rodar to

it before you can switch to uppercase. I prefer writing in uppercase

Don’t know about the hand writing thing. But as for the folders, just move the
apps outside of the folder, and the folder will go away. As for the voices,
this especially true with alex, you have to toggle voice over off, then back
on. This should fix that issue.

Subject: A few questions about my new iPhone 6

Here are my questions...

Voices: I downloaded both the VO enhanced voice and the Alex voice, and then I
swiped down and tapped activate, but neither one is starting. Is there
something else I need to do?

Handwriting: I know this isn't a new feature, but I never used it in iOS 7 so
its new to me.

I added it to the rotor, but it says lower case when I start it...Is there a
way to be able to write with caps too?

Is there a way to delete a character (other than leaving handwriting mode and
hitting the delete key on the keyboard)?

Is there a way to write numbers, punctuation or math symbols like + and -?

Also, a question about folders... rather basic I know, but I haven't really
created any since I got my first iPhone 3 years ago so I don't remember.

In moving some apps around on the home screen, I have inadvertently created
some folders I didn't intend to create, and I would like to undo their
creation. How do you delete a folder? I don't want to delete the apps inside
the folder, just eliminate the folder itself so that the apps are not inside
one.

Thanks,

Sarah

2014-12-02 Thread Alex Hall
I don't recall all the gestures in Handwriting, but I know AppleVis.com
http://applevis.com/ has a guide on the feature. I seem to recall that a
two-finger swipe left is delete, right is new line, and three gingers
left/right move between input types (upper/lower case/numbers). I could easily
be wrong, though.

Re: a few questions about my new ipad mini

2014-07-18 Thread Donna
Hi Steph

I can't answer your first question. To get the iPad innnlandscape, turn thee
iPad to landscape and shake the iPad til VO says landscape mode. This doesn't
lock the iPad into the landscape mode. To lock the iPad in landscape, this can
be found in settings.

Sgo to settings, swipe down to iTunes and app store, after tapping to open,
just enter your iTunes login and password in the approperate fields.

Secondly, how do I get it in landscape mode?

Control-option-command-arrows. Right and left move through the items, up and
down change the values. This is for rate, volume, and so forth. To navigate
text or webpages, press left and right arrows together, then use up-left and
up-right to move through the rotor options and up or down to move by the
selected item. While in this mode, op and down together will perform a double
tap.

Is there a way to locate your book marks and your favorites with the blue

Go to the bottom of the page with, I'm pretty sure,
control-option-function-right arrow. Add shift to that if it doesn't work. Use
left arrow to jump to the top instead.

Notifications can be really useful. If you just want to silence everything for
a while, turn on Do Not Disturb. To control them on an app-by-app basis, go to
Settings Notifications. Sometimes, if I'm reading a book or something, I'll
just disable speech. That way I am alerted if a notification comes in, by
Voiceover doesn't read it out and talk over part of my book.

Re: a few questions

Hello Terri and all. I have some answers for you, but first, a message
to Alex.

Hello Alex. Wow, the below was informative. *sarcasm here*. You mean to
say that you actually wrote a message to viphone just to say that you
don't know the answer? I really don't like calling people out on list
publicly, but really? How does your message benefit the group?

OK, now onto the answers.

The command to change the rotor is turn on quick mode with left and
right together. Then press up and right, or up and left to change the
rotor setting. I did a quicky Google search and came across the Apple
help site which gives all the commands. In the words of Cara Quinn, the
linky is below.

http://help.apple.com/iphone/5/voiceover/en/iph6c494dc6.html

To quickly move to either the top or the bottom of the screen, press
Control-Up or Control-Down respectively. This might help with the book
mark question.

Lastly, the global notification toggle is to put your device in Do Not
Disturb mode. When it's in this mode, all notifications are suppressed.
If you have people in your favorites, their calls will still come
through, but you can change that too. If there is a certain app for
which you don't want notifications, ever, you can turn off individually
from the Settings app in the Notification center section. This way you
don't have to bother with the DND mode.

I hope this helps.

Re: a few questions

2014-03-28 Thread Alex Hall
Thanks. I've never seen a VO command that doesn't include the VO keys, but then
again I'm used to the mac. To add to those key commands:
up and down move by line;
left and right move by character;
option up and down move by paragraph, though that doesn't work very well in my
experience;
option left and right move by word.
As Raul said, add shift to select or de-select, if you are moving over
already-selected text. Hit an arrow key by itself to de-select all. Command-a
also works to select all.

Hi, I don't believe that quick nav matters when using control-up or
control-down. In fact, I just checked it and it works fine. As for it working
when Voice Over isn't running, I think it will not work. I believe it's a VO
specific command. However when quick nav isn't on and you are in an edit
field, there are editing commands which work with or without VO running.
Command left takes you to the beginning of the current line. Command Right to
the end of the current line. Command Up to the top of the entire edit field
and command down to the bottom of the entire edit field. If you add shift to
these commands it will select the text that the cursor travels over and then
you can copy, delete, or whatever if you want. Again, if VO is running, quick
 nav has to be off.

thanks for the control-up/down tip. Does that work only while Quick Nav

 even when VO is disabled?

Hello Alex. Wow, the below was informative. *sarcasm here*. You mean
to say that you actually wrote a message to viphone just to say that
you don't know the answer? I really don't like calling people out on
list publicly, but really? How does your message benefit the group?

 OK, now onto the answers.

The command to change the rotor is turn on quick mode with left and
right together. Then press up and right, or up and left to change the
rotor setting. I did a quicky Google search and came across the Apple
help site which gives all the commands. In the words of Cara Quinn,
 the linky is below.

 http://help.apple.com/iphone/5/voiceover/en/iph6c494dc6.html

To quickly move to either the top or the bottom of the screen, press
Control-Up or Control-Down respectively. This might help with the book
 mark question.

Lastly, the global notification toggle is to put your device in Do Not
Disturb mode. When it's in this mode, all notifications are
suppressed. If you have people in your favorites, their calls will
still come through, but you can change that too. If there is a certain
app for which you don't want notifications, ever, you can turn off
individually from the Settings app in the Notification center section.
This way you don't have to bother with the DND mode.

 I hope this helps.

How do you turn off notification messages for all of your apps that
you have? I'll be listening to music and out of nowhere a message

2014-03-12 Thread Christopher Chaltain
David, Are you saying the speaking of the delete button after you delete
a message has been corrected in IOS 7.1? If that's what you meant, that
isn't the case on my iPhone 4S. I still hear the word delete after
deleting a message in the Mail client. I hear it more quickly than I
used to, which I think just goes to show that IOS 7.1 is a bit snappier
than 7.0 was, but I still hear the word delete again. I haven't checked
out Feeddler, but this makes me wonder if the issue where the focus gets
reset to the beginning of your feed list every few minutes is still present.

If you're reading a message then the number of unread messages is listed next

I'm not sure I've noticed your last point. I hear the word message and then it

have to wait a beat before it starts reading the message.
