Re: how do you block texts

2021-10-26 Thread Dan

Ok, I figured this one out.  the user
guide does not explain it fully so I was confused.

to do this you first have to open a text
conversation.  You next double tap on the name/phone number at
the top of the screen.  This will bring up a list of choices.
The user guide says to scroll down and click on the "block this
sender" button.  This is not correct because this choice doesn't
show up in this list.  You should find the "More info" button
and click on it at this point.  You will now see a list of
choices which does include the block button.   Double tap this
button and you will be prompted for your confirmation of
blocking or canceling.

I have already alerted the Apple folks
about this deficiency in the user guide.

Re: how do you block texts

2021-10-27 Thread Bill Gallik
Hi All,

That is certainly one of several ways to block text messages from a specified
source. There are at least two more ways to do this:

1) Provided the sender you want to block is in your Contacts, open the Phone
app, select the “Contacts” tab at the bottom, locate the offending contact and
open it, activate the “Edit” button and finally locate and activate the “Block”
button at the bottom of the contact dialog.

2) Or you can open “Settings” and activate the “Phone” item. Then locate and
activate the “Block Senders” button, in the resulting dialog locate and
activate the “Add” button and then simply fill in the telephone number you
desire to block.

Seems like there ought to be a simpler way to do this. I’ve done this using
both above methods and the method Dan suggested enough times that it seems easy
enough to me until I start giving written instructions!!! YIKES

Do you know if the second method works for blocking spam texts from
email addresses? I get these fairly often and they show up as
messages, even though they are from an email address.

It appears that, using the second method, if you put in the email address it
will block email messages from that address as well. I forgot all about that,

Carolyn,

Open the messages app.
Find & tap on the message that you want to block.
Go to the top of the page & swipe to the email address or the phone number of
the person who sent the message.
Tap on the email address or phone number.
A menu will appear, swipe down to Info & tap.
Swipe down to Block This Caller & tap.
I think that you may have to tap to confirm.

If the message has multiple recipients, you will have to copy the first email

Re: how do you block texts

2021-10-29 Thread Wayne Merritt
Bill,
When I use the second method of blocking unwanted text/emails, I'm
presented with a search box. I have tried entering the email address I
want to block texts from, but all it does is search my contacts for
that address. Since the address is not in my contacts, I am unable to
block it. Thoughts?

RE: how do you block texts

2021-10-29 Thread Carolyn
It must be because it is a group, all with phone numbers similar to mine. I put
the first in my contacts and gave it a name. I will try on the next inevitable
message, but don't hold out much hope now. I went into the contact and thought
I could block the contact, but did not find that option there.

---
If the message has multiple recipients, you will have to copy the first email
address or phone number in the list of recipients of the message. Then go to
settings, phone & swipe down to Blocked Callers & paste the copied info into
the edit field to add the messager to the Block list.

I recently had one of these group texts from a spammer to those of us with
similar phone numbers. I found it best just to Hide alerts for this group chat,
as various people who were spammed on the same text would reply with "stop" and

YIKES

to do this you first have to open a text conversation. You next double
tap on the name/phone number at the top of the screen. This will bring up a
list of choices. The user guide says to scroll down and click on the "block
this sender" button. This is not correct because this choice doesn't show up
in this list. You should find the "More info" button and click on it at this
point. You will now see a list of choices which does include the block button.
Double tap this button and you will be prompted for your confirmation of
blocking or canceling.

I have already alerted the Apple folks about this deficiency in the
user guide.
