Re: SpellStack Player's Guide

2014-01-18 Thread Paweł Masarczyk

Hello.
I have downloaded Spelstack, tried to play a game, read the tutorial and
I still don't understand one thing.

When is my turn supposed to end?
I have built a three-letter word vertically when it was my turn and
nothing happened. Is there any button I should click to submit my move or
is it supposed to end the turn for me?
Also one question to the developers: would it be hard and is it planned
at all, to introduce support for dictionaries of other languages so
multilingual people could play in different languages?

Spellstack looks like a fun game to fill the gab on Android where my
favourite to time, Hanging With Friends, is lacking accessibility support.

Have a nice day.

Best regards
Paweł

Re: SpellStack Player's Guide

2014-01-16 Thread Kwasi Mensah
Hi Alex,

In your situation it looks like the letters for CONE aren't in the right
order. the E isn't touching the C. They need to touch each other in
order. Normally the game would take care of moving the letters around for
you, but I think some of them might be blocked in (or can't be moved
without locking it).

Locked tiles are visually denoted by being darker than unlocked tiles. So
the ones your mom sees as a darker color are locked.

Hope this helps,
Kwasi

Thanks for taking the time to write that out. The tutorials make sense
now, but as I play an actual game I find myself getting lost. Here's an
example of a game I'm playing against the Medium Marge AI:
I tried to make the word 'cone. E is in a2, C is in b2, N is in c3, and O
is in d2. I tapped all four, in order as you told me on Twitter, and the
game said it was moving tiles, then that it could not make the word. What
happened? No tiles are locked, so what is it trying to move things for? Why
would making the word fail since all four are touching?

On a side note, what visually denotes a locked tile? I am trying to show
my mother, who loves word games, this app. She is not sure what I mean by
locked and is also not sure why some tiles are darker colors than others.

 Hi Christina,

Thanks so much for the kind words! A letter starts of as a player 1 or
player 2 letter when it drops down at the start of your turn. At the start
of player 1's turn 5 player 1 letters drop down and at the start of player
2's turn 5 player 2 letters come down. I hope that clarifies.

That is awesome! I think I get it now. The written guide as well as the
video tutorial helped it all make sense. I think I will try a game now. :)
One quick question though. How do tiles become player one or player two
tiles? Is it the five tiles at the start of your turn that become your
tiles? I hope that question make sense. I understand a tile becomes yours
if you steel it but I just wondered how the tiles start out as belonging to
 a particular player. :)

Thanks so much for making this app accessible and taking the time to
explain and show us how to play. I love word games but accessible games
that we can play with others are very few, in fact, I am unaware of any,
 except for hanging with friends.

Again, Thanks so very much for all of the hard work,
 Christina

Re: SpellStack Player's Guide

2014-01-16 Thread Alex Hall
Oh, I thought they could be in any order so long as I tapped them in the
correct order. Okay, one more puzzle solved. I'm still unclear on when the game
moves letters, though. For instance, I spelled sheen going all the way up the
first column as my initial move in a game, and the app rearranged my tiles for
some reason. By the time the AI went, I had no idea where it had moved my tiles
because some had disappeared.
