RE: Should I upgrade from Apple Watch series 3 to latest model?

2023-03-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

If you waited this long and considering we are now half way to the next major
Apple September release, I would probably keep the series 3 Apple Watch and
upgrade to one of the new Apple Watches this fall which I assume will be the
series 9.
I never bought the initial Apple Watch, but my wife and I bought the second
Generation and then we upgraded a few years later to the Apple Watch 5th
generation and we both still have them. I remember that going from 2nd to 5th
generation came with a big speed bump and I was definitely not unhappy as at
times using my 2nd generation was painfully sluggish.

Now I am still quite happy with the 5th generation except for using it in the
pool and here I really don't know if a new 8th generation watch would be much
better, but I find it extremely frustrating and useless for use in water.
First of all, even when I don't yet have waterlock on, I find the watch very
difficult to use when I have wet fingers and the watch is just a bit wet on the
touch screen.
Secondly, once I start my pool swim workout and waterlock engages, the watch is
entirely useless for a Voiceover user until you press and hold the digital
crown to turn waterlock off, then at first if you still have wet fingers you
again deal with the frustration of the touch screen either not reacting well or
doing all sorts of things you don't want it to do; it foten goes to the third
workout screen which is your currently playing screen, then you have to try to
get it back to the second screen if I want to see actually any details about
how long I was swimming and how many length I did and so on. I really have to
get into the habit to bring a small towel or something so I can wipe the watch
dry and dry my fingers.
Lastly, even at 100% volume it's not easy to hear what Voiceover is saying in a
pool setting where there is echo and typically a good amount of background
noise. I am thinking I should maybe try one of these waterproof headsets you
can get to see if that wouldn't improve the quality of the watch experience
because I regularly find myself saying not very nice things to my watch and
Apple for making it so difficult.
I am pretty sure a sighted person can tap the screen or press the digital crown
or side button when the watch is in waterlock and they can see all the
information about their workout so it's annoying that as a Voiceover user that
information is not accessible, why can't it be set up so that pressing the
digital crown and/or side button wouuld tell Voiceover it should read the
important workout data such as time and how many length I have done etc. I
understand the Apple Watch 8 Ultimate or whatever it is called is quite a bit
louder so that might be helpful in this setting, but I'd be really interested
to hear from others who regularly use their Apple Watch for swimming workouts
if they found any work-arounds for that problems I am describing. because

Hey all,

I've been using my apple watch Series 3 for a very long time. Should I upgrade
to a newer model? Is there much point? I figured the speed increases would be
worth it, but are the other features like blood oxygen measurements etc useful?
I also had a question regarding the new zones feature on watch OS 9. Are you
able to customize the feature, so you get audible or haptic alerts when your
active zone changes? That'll help blind people a ton since we'll get that
information in realtime.
thanks!

Re: Apple Watch Series 3 no longer automatically pairs when I first put it on and wake up iPhone 7

2021-07-26 Thread Ed Worrell
Kevin,

Yes this is the correct behavior. Any time you turn off the watch or your
iPhone completely you will have to enter your pin. This holds true for simply
restarting the devices as well.

Guys,

For the last couple weeks I’ve noticed that a behavior I rely on no longer
works as expected. Historically, I used to be able to connect my paired Apple
Watch to my iPhone 7 by simply putting it on my wrist, turning it on and then
waking up my iPhone. Now, even though the Bluetooth is turned on and the phone

update hasn’t changed a thing. Is there a setting I have to restore in the
Watch App or somewhere else?

Thanks,

2020-11-02 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Ok,
Unpack it and turn it on,
Then after a good minute press the digital crown
That’s the windy bit press it in 3 times quickly.

Then once vo is running open the watch app on your phone and
Following the prompats on the phones watch app,
You will have to select on the watch your language and country
Then it's the phones turn to tell you what to do.

Good lcuk.

Pretty much anything you have on your phone that is accessible with Voiceover \
The watch app if available is pretty much accessible also.

Re: Can someone please give me simple step-by-step instructions for setting up and configuring an Apple Watch Series 3

2020-11-02 Thread Wayne Merritt
Hello. Okay, I'm going to give it a shot. When you setup your watch,
you will probably have a pop-up on the associated iPhone asking if you
want to setup the new watch. There are 2 ways you can set it up. The
first is to do it automatically with the phone, and the other is to
set it up manually. The manual process is supposed to be accessible,
but I have had issues with it the last couple of times I have done it.
The easier and speedier process is to pair the watch automatically
with your phone. What I've done is to rest my wrist with the watch in
my lap. Hold the iPhone above the watch about 5 or 6 inches, with the
phone's camera directly in line with the watch face. The process
should begin automatically and apps transfer to your watch. This is
for setting up a new watch but from a prior watch setup. I would
imagine the process would be similar when setting up a completely new
watch, which is what you will be doing. Though the wait may be long, I
would definitely advise calling Apple Accessibility if you are anxious
about doing it on your own. I think you have the option of them
calling you back if you don't want to wait on the phone.

Good luck,
Wayne Merritt

Check in the watch app under Face Gallery. That should show you the faces
immediately available for your specific watch.

Some faces do not have any complications. And I like weather apps like Dark sky

I had a Series Two which is similar to the Series Three. Now I have a Series

RE: Can't Upgrade apple Watch Series 3

2020-09-17 Thread Simon A Fogarty
To start vo on the watch
Try pressing the digital crown in 3 times quickly,

Or on your phone under the watch app under general you can find an
accessibility feature which will let you turn the voiceover service on and set
up what you need,

That's what I would suggest.

How do I get the voice back on my apple watch? I held down both the crown and
side button and I hear it make sounds but no voice. Siri comes up and the chime
on both the hour and half hour. Any suggestions would be appreciated and I
called apple accessibility with no success. I don't remember how to unpair the
watch but if I do, I'm afraid I won't be able to pair it back since I have
tried it before and finally had to take it to Verizon and have them pair it.

I updated my watch s4 lastnight and had no issues what so ever with the update

Infact I was surprised how quick it updated,

Mine is updating now and I did not reset it. I read through all the forums and
saw that this is a pretty common problem even with models higher than the
series 3. So after I removed everything it would let me remove, and i do mean
everything, I then followed their suggestion to simply restart both the watch
and the phone. Finally, it showed enough cleared space and the eternal download
has started. This may take days but at least it's happening. Most of what I
uninstalled I don't need back, and the couple I do I'll just redownload. The
other thing they confirmed is that the install doesn't actually need nearly
what it says and that it will be easy enough to put things back once it's done.
Very annoying though.

Hi Deb,

You can pair your watch with your phone again and restore from your most recent
backup. that may save you some time.

Best,
Anna

2020-09-17 Thread Deb Cook Lewis
My update completed. We don't get much for our Series 3's but I hope we got
some security updates at least.
Now I'd like to get a couple of my apps back, but the app store just hangs.
This may be because everyone is updating so I'll wait for that, but I hope this
doesn't mean something else is wrong.
Ugh.

Re: Can't Upgrade apple Watch Series 3

2020-09-17 Thread Holly Anderson
Hi, I was able to clear enough space. I deleted all media and apps from my
watch, then rebooted it, after that, I had enough space. It’s not worked for
everyone though, so YMMV.

Probably you will need to set it up as a new watch .. and then restore your

OK. It says I’m about a half gig short of the space required for the update. I
have deleted all 3rd party apps, I have no songs, pictures etc. I’ve deleted
every app that Apple says I can delete from the native apps. I’m still the same
amount short for the install. If I have even less than Apple provided on my
watch, how I can I get to less than this long enough to install the update? I
hate to completely erase the watch.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: Can't Upgrade apple Watch Series 3

2020-09-17 Thread Michael Feir
I bit the bullet and reset my watch. I don't think you can clear up enough
space on a Series 3 to avoid reseting. I removed everything that it seemed
possible to remove. It took quite a while to transfer the update, but it's
certanly worth doing. I'm still setting things up how I like but it's all
goig quite smoothly.

Re: Can't Upgrade apple Watch Series 3

2020-09-17 Thread Greg Wocher
Hello,
I am having the same issue. Even if I delete all my apps I cannot get enough
space free. I even removed some of the faces and that did not even free up
enough space. This is frustrating because I don’t won’t to have to reset my
watch just to get the update.

Subject: Can't Upgrade apple Watch Series 3

2020-04-27 Thread 'Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.' via VIPhone
hi,
I have an Apple Watch series 3 GPS model, that is, no cellular.
It has worked well until the past few days.
several days ago, I lost the ability of obtaining forecasts in both dark sky on
the watch and weather gods on the watch.
Yesterday and today, I have been unable to input voice Siri commands.
I have powered off and on several times, with no change in this abnormal
behavior.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can try next?
Thanks in advance for any ideas. Best, Keith

RE: apple watch series 3

2018-08-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
There are of course also rumours that Apple will release a completely
redesigned series of iPads with edge to edge screens, no home button, possibly
no 3.5mm headphone jack and Face Id and Rob from the Today in iOS Podcast seems
to think that maybe the September announcement will focus on iPhones and there
will be another mid or late October announcement about new iPads and the new
Apple Watch.
Personally I don’t think that will be the case, I don’t think Apple has enough
to talk about if all they introduce are new iPhones in September and I think
the new Apple Watch and hopefully second generation Airpods will be part of the
September announcement. After all, there are hardly any new Wow features in iOS
12 which they could spend a lot of time on. I’m not saying that is such a bad
thing since for once it seems that the initial release of iOS 12 will be a
stabil release without any of the major almost deal-breaker bugs we saw in the
initial release of iOS 11 and iOS 10.
Apple is up to 9 public betas as of today and I think there are 2 more
developer betas for iOS 12 and there could be one more before the Gold Master,
this more than they have ever done.
As per Today in iOS the last 4 or 5 betas have introduced almost no new
features, just bug fixes, small tweeks and performance optimizations.

Regards,
Sieghard

Typically Apple makes their announcement in September. I am anticipating an
announcement for an event in the next couple of weeks and devices released at
the end of next month. Personally I would wait until the new device is released
and look for a Series 3 on Black Friday. There have been some awesome deals in
prefious years for the previous model of the Apple Watch. That is how I picked

This information won’t be on the Apple website until the official announcement,
but if you search the web you can find links. Today there were a lot of leaks
dropped, such as the official announce date will be September 12, and what they
expect Apple to announce. The Apple Series 4 is expected to be announced at
that time.

Hi,

New Apple Watches have been released for the past couple of falls, so it stands
to reason that new ones will be released this year as well.

Best,

Someone mentioned an Apple watch series 4. Where did you find this information?
I tried to read about it on apple.com and the only new item they mentioned is
watch OS5 coming in the fall.

RE: apple watch series 3

2018-08-24 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Robert,

Are you sure you don’t want to wait another 3 weeks to see what the Apple Watch
series 4 will bring and how much cheaper the apple Watch series 3 will be in
the weeks after the new Apple Watch will be released?
Anyways, you primarily have to decide if you want the cellular model or WiFi
only, 38mm or 42mm (you just have to check out the two sizes and see what suits
you).
Don’t let Apple talk you into buying one of their overpriced watch straps, buy
the watch with the cheapest strap and if you like the Milanese loop (you can
ask them to show it to you) order one on Amazon for a tenth of what Apple
charges.

Regards,
Sieghard

Re: apple watch series 3

2018-08-24 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Robert,

If you really have to get it next week, rather than waiting for the new models,
decide whether you want the one you can use to make phone calls with when your
watch isn't available. If that's the one you want, make sure to ask for the LTE
Series 3. If not, get the one without LTE, as it will be cheaper. You might
also want to try on both the 38- and 42-mm watches to see which size you prefer.

Best,
Anna

Even if you don't want or need the latest and greatest, you might
consider waiting till after the new watches are announced, and then
getting the Series 3 for a discount.

Even if you don't want or need the latest and greatest, you might
consider waiting till after the new watches are announced, and then
getting the Series 3 for a discount.

Re: apple watch series 3

2018-08-22 Thread pegkane52

Hi,
The one thing that you will have to decide, is whether you want to use cellular
data or Wi-Fi. There will be an extra charge when you purchase the watch if you
want the cellular data. There will also be an additional charge in less your
carrier doesn’t charge you the additional charge and I know with Verizon, that
is a $10 a month extra charge.
Take care.

Hello Donna,

You're quite welcome.

Do not be too hard on yourself where the connection of Apple Watch to AirPods
is concerned. Apple still has some compatibility tweaking to do, where they
are concerned. Give it a little time.

I realize that you want to use your Apple Watch during your exercise routine
with AirPods, however, in the meantime, your iPhone will work just fine as an
exercise tool, in conjunction with Airpods and Apple Watch.

Donna, for the best results, you really need to get to know almost every aspect
of how VoiceOver works with Apple Watch. So, explore everything. I'm not
necessarily referring to the many different watch faces but, rather, all of the
settings and configuration options available to you.

Learn, for example, how to install and remove apps from the watch so that you
can do it with confidence.

Also, understand that where you place a third-party Complication, on a watch
face, may vary the data it displays.

Once you have mastered this, you may consider installing a variety of
third-party apps that can help you better track your exercise routine.

For example, my preferred step counter is FitPort. However, another popular
step counter is Pedometer++. Still another highly recommended step counting
app is Duffy.

As for me, I prefer not to have any music on my Apple Watch for several reasons
the primary of which is the conservation of Apple Watch battery power.

So, for example, before any predetermined exercise routine, I make certain that
FitPort is launched on the watch then I engage music on my iPHone as I begin to
exercise.

Of course, there is also the workout app that is extremely accessible and very
popular. Personally, however, I find it a bit too cumbersome to use early in
the morning when I begin to exercise.

For me, I prefer to track my steps throughout the day.

It's a good idea to get extremely familiar with all aspects of the Health app,
on your iPHone as many third-party apps will use the Health app to store and in
some cases, read and write updated data.

Just give yourself some time and it will all begin to make sense.

RE: My first Apple Watch – series 3

2018-05-10 Thread M. Taylor

Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks a lot for the tip to activate crown navigation. As soon as I read your
post, I followed your instructions and started scrolling with the crown. I do
like it better than tapping and touching.

Unfortunately, I still haven’t conquered pairing the AirPods with the Apple
Watch. I am not giving up, though. Somehow, someway, someday, I will make these
two devices connect via Bluetooth.

Again, thanks so much for taking the time to help.

Except if you use it for swimming, then make sure you don't forget to turn off
crown navigation or else you can't get the watch out of water lock unless you
turn off Voiceover first.

Hello Donna,

Congratulations on your new Apple Watch.

I'm not certain if John covered this in this thread but I strongly suggest that
you enable Digital Crown Navigation. When the watch is awake, two-finger,
triple-tap the display in order to toggle this feature on and off. When

I think the modular watch face is the best one for beginners.

Finally, almost all of the major configuration of the watch can be done from

Thank you, John, looks like I have a lot to learn. I kee getting a message
about auto speak but wasn’t sure exactly what to watch wanted to make speak
automatically or how to get it done. I did talk a little on but really didn’t
notice anything different afterwards.

Again, thank you for your help.

The easiest thing to do is choose a watch face that includes the battery
indicator as a complication. I have done this with the modular watch face.
Also, you can include any complication as an "auto speak" item. So, for
example, when I tap the watch to get it to tell the time, I have it set to also
announce the battery level as well.

Thanks, John, really appreciate your help.

Now I am easily able to find a notification Center, as well as the control
center. Is there a quick way to also see how much battery life is remaining?
That would be really helpful as well.

Guess I will have to keep working on. My air pots. I will try again, ensuring
that my iPhone is, either off, or know where in range of the watch.

Again, thanks a bunch.

Hello,
The notification center for the Apple Watch can easily be reached from the
main screen by flicking up or down with one finger until you hear,
notifications. Double tap with one finger and you'll be able to view all of
your notifications.

I have paired my Air Pods, though it wasn't as easily as it is made to
sound to occur. You have to be sure your other Apple Devices are not in range
or the Phone, for example, will offer the pairing request. In my case, after
some effort, it just seemed that the watch suddenly started working with the
Air Pods. I put the case against the watch, took the air pods out of their
case and put them on. They just started to work, but this happened after a good
five or six attempts.

My first Apple Watch – series 3

2018-05-08 Thread Donna Neff
Hi everyone,

If anyone can answer any of the questions I have concerning the Apple Watch,
series 3 (which I just purchased) I would greatly appreciate it. Overall, I am
thrilled with my new acquisition but I could sure use a little help getting
started.

The first question I have is does anyone know of a quick way to get to the
notifications when they come in? It takes me a while to find where to swipe and
sometimes I get so frustrated that I tap the crown to go back and start over to
look for the alert.

My second question concerns Uber. Is there anyway to order an Uber ride from
the Apple Watch, instead of the iPhone? I saw that I could order a ride but
there was no place, or at least I couldn’t find it, where the frequent
destinations I use are listed.

My third question, and I will stop with this one, is how do I pair my AirPods
with the Apple Watch? I’ve tried the usual method of going into settings,
selecting Bluetooth in pairing, but didn’t have any success. I would like to be
able to listen to music on my I watch while I am on the treadmill or on a brisk
walk. I thought sure the AirPods would work and pair easily.

I hope that isn’t too many questions for one post. Any help, thoughts, or
suggestions will be gratefully received and very much appreciated.

Donna

Hello,

When I have both my Apple watch and my iPhone 6S turned on and I get a text
message, the watch emits a soft ding. However, my phone makes no sound at
all even though I do receive a notification on my locked screen. Strangely
though, if I am using my iPhone, I do get the audible text message alert on
the phone but not on the watch. Is this normal behavior? Is it possible to
set it up so that both my watch and my iPhone make audible sounds when a
text message comes in? Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Receiving Text Messages on Apple Watch Series 3

2017-10-14 Thread Deb Lewis
When I get a message, if I'm quick, I can just tap the screen and it's
available to read. If I'm not quick enough or doing something else, I
have to open the notification center on the watch to read it. But it's
often easy to get them by just tapping the face as if you were
checking for the time. As far as I know, the face choice doesn't have
any impact on this. But I think the only two faces worth using are
simple and utility. So I'm probably not the one to ask about that.

Receiving Text Messages on Apple Watch Series 3

2017-10-14 Thread Suzanne Wilson
Hello,

Does the ease with which you can read an incoming text message or
notification on the Apple watch vary according to which clock face you have
downloaded? I would love the convenience of being able to read incoming
notifications on my watch just by pressing the rectangular button, but new
notifications don't seem to be there when I do. Am I doing something wrong?
Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Apple Watch Series 3 Limited to 3G-Like Speeds on T-Mobile

2017-09-15 Thread Mary Otten
Rip off.

Apple Watch Series 3 Limited to 3G-Like Speeds on T-Mobile
MacRumors: Mac News and Rumors / Juli Clover

Apple's new Apple Watch Series 3 models support LTE and UMTS connectivity, but
on T-Mobile, LTE connection speeds won't be available. The carrier is limiting
the Apple Watch to a maximum speed of 512kb/s, which is more like a 3G
connection than an LTE connection.

The speed limitation is noted in T-Mobile's fine print, which says the maximum
wearables speed is 512kb/s. It's also noted on the pre-order page when adding
an Apple Watch Series 3 to your cart.

At issue is T-Mobile's ONE plan, which limits both tethering and all wearable
devices to 512kb/s. While most users are unlikely to be streaming video or
doing other tasks that require high connectivity speeds on the Apple Watch, the
Apple Watch is also unlikely to be a data hog, so it's unclear why T-Mobile has
this limitation in place.

A T-Mobile representative told MacRumors reader Tony that its "High Speed Data
with paired DIGITS" plan would provide 4G LTE data. DIGITS is priced at $25 per
month without autopay, and $20 per month with Autopay.

No other major carrier in the United States, including Sprint, Verizon, or AT
appears to be throttling Apple Watch speeds with their standard unlimited
plans.

All four of the carriers are charging the same $10 per month fee to add an
Apple Watch to an existing iPhone plan, and each one is offering a limited time
promotion that waives monthly fees for the first three months.

The LTE Apple Watch Series 3 models became available for pre-order early this
morning, with new devices slated to arrive on Friday, September 22, the
official launch date for the device.

Re: Apple Watch Series 3 and AirPods

2017-09-15 Thread Mary Otten
Thanks for the clarification about the Bluetooth connection and the watch. My
experience with Bluetooth recently and a braille display, which I have
connected to two devices, although not at the same time of course, was that
switching didn't always happen. I guess that ear phones are different. Or maybe
it's because one of my devices is a Kindle tablet. As for the iOS thing, with
the series 3, your phone has to be running iOS 11. That's with the Apple Watch
specs say. So if you have an iPhone and you don't want to upgrade immediately,
if you do get a Watch, you're going to have a problem. In other words, be
prepared to upgrade to iOS 11 if you're ordering a series 3.

RE: Apple Watch Series 3 and AirPods

2017-09-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Mary,

Yes, there is a bluetooth connection from the iPhone to the watch and I don't
think that changes for the series 3 watch.
I heard on a Podcast that you are not able to make unlimited calls on your
watch, I believe it is limited to one hour a day for calls.
There are more restrictions, I guess $10 a month is not getting you unlimited
use and if you did want to use your watch to make many calls or have long talks
you would then still need it to go through your phone.
I don't quite understand what you are asking or saying about needing iOS 11 for
the watch. Maybe you do for the series 3, but as iOS 11 comes out next Tuesday
and even if you get the watch on day 1 it won't be until next Friday so there
shouldn't be a problem.
Also, as far as using bluetooth headsets or earpieces is concerned, the
bluetooth connection between the iPhone and the Watch does not mean you can't
use a bluetooth headset. I have my Plantronics Voyager Edge paired with both my
phone and my series 2 watch and it works flawlessly, if I use the phone I hear
the phone, as soon as I do something on the watch and the Edge is turned on it
switches over and I hear what I am doing on the watch. Once I'm done and the
watch goes to sleep it goes back to the iPhone without me ever doing anything
special. I would hope this works equally well and seamlessly with the Airpods
and in fact it really should work even better and faster since they are
supposed to be optimised for Apple devices.

Regards,
Sieghard

I have the idea that with watches prior to the series 3, there was a Bluetooth
connection between the phone and the watch. With the advent of the LTE, I
wonder if this would free up that connection, so that you could use it with
AirPods for other Bluetooth headset when you're out and you don't have your
phone. Also, maybe this was already known to everyone, but I learned by looking
at the Apple Watch specs that you have to have your phone running iOS 11. So
for folks who wanted to wait a little while before upgrading, you can't do that
if you also want the series 3. Kind of a bummer.
