Groundwire and Acrobits Softphone apps for iPhone and iPad on sale for 50% (December 11, 2013)

2013-12-11 Thread Esther
Hi All,

Acrobits has just placed its iOS apps for SIP services on sale for 50%. These
are:
• Groundwire - Business Caliber SIP Phone ($4.99, usually lists for $9.99) by
Acrobits
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/groundwire-business-caliber/id378503081?mt=8
• Acrobits Softphone SIP phone for VoIP calls ($2.99, usually lists for $5.99)
by Acrobits
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/acrobits-softphone-for-ipad/id599981890?mt=8
• Acrobits Softphone for iPad ($5,99, usually lists for $12.99) by Acrobits
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/acrobits-softphone-for-ipad/id599981890?mt=8

The first two apps are known to be accessible, and have entries at AppleVis.
The iPad version is a relatively recent release from a few months ago, but has
been through three updates, and I don't know details of its accessibility.
However, this capability of making calls through the iPad may be of interest to
some users. Note that you must have a service providers hat supports these
capabilities for this to work.

Kelly posted a recent iPhone on the Cheap user guide at AppleVis explaining
the use of such services and gave the link to it in a recent list post. I'll
paste in her shortened link here:
http://is.gd/Dd3as2

You can also find other useful posts by using the link to this group's Mail
Archive page and searching for older posts related to this topic. for example,
here's a link to an archived post by Sieghard on the Groundwire SIP client:
http://www.mail-archive.com/viphone@googlegroups.com/msg47265.html

Please do some background reading about these apps before posting questions.
Kelly's guide is a good place to get started. Here are the links to the
AppleVis directory entries for Groundwire:

RE: Groundwire and Acrobits Softphone apps for iPhone and iPad on sale for 50% (December 11, 2013)

2013-12-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Just as an endorsement, Groundwire is definitely a fantastic app and
completely accessible. It's a good buy at $4.99 and anybody who is using
VoIP calling would probably not regret getting it.
As Esther said, these apps all require subscriptions to VoIP providers and
there are too many out there to list them, but Groundwire also supports
incoming calls if you have an incoming VoIP number and it even works if the
app is not in the app switcher. In this case you get a push notification
which allows you to answer the call.
The app is very much like the stock Phone app with a Favorites tab called
Quickdial, a recents tab called History, a keypad and access to your
contacts list. You can also record both sides of an ongoing phone call, the
Record button is just there along with buttons for Speakerphone, keypad etc.
One thing Groundwire does not offer yet is touch dialing, e.g. you have to
double or split tab the numbers and I find it often does not work well for
dialing access numbers or entering account numbers.
Skype currently has the edge here since to my knowledge it is the only app
where touch typing works on the keypad although it also only works on the
main keypad, if you are already on a call and bring up the keypad to enter
numbers, then once again you have to double or split tab.

Regards,
Sieghard

can be used on both the iPad and the iPhone. A specific example is
Camfind. The description says it can be used on the iPad but I cannot

Re: apps for iphone and ipad

2013-04-19 Thread Marcy Weinberg
The iPhone apps you install on your iPad usually have a button in the bottom
right-hand side which is labelled something like switch to full screen mode.
This enlarges the app to fit onto the iPad's size, instead of being a small
rectangle in the middle of the iPad screen.

By the way, the switch to full screen mode button is a toggle, so you can
switch back to the smaller mode if desired.

BrailleTouch I think we mean, BrailleNote is something else,... isn't it?

Anyway, when you got a teeny phone app open in the middle of a pad screen,
there's a button down far right bottom, say zoom I think it is, might be
full screen, so use that to fill the space and make it big. Now it's big
enough you can hardly miss, but for sure so big you can hardly reach either.
I got good runs out of it, and bad ones, so not convinced, but they work
in this way if you can see enough to benefit from the extra size. Would
suit partially sighted who do benefit from size, but still have the full
view, rather than the limited one of the magnifying glass you have to move
about to see what you're doing.

apps for iphone and ipad

2013-04-18 Thread Bonnie L. Snyder
Does anyone know how one can download an app to the iPad that says it
can be used on both the iPad and the iPhone. A specific example is
Camfind. The description says it can be used on the iPad but I cannot
download it on my iPad.

Re: apps for iphone and ipad

2013-04-18 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

What happens when you try to download it exactly? Or, is it a issue were you
can't find it in the app store on your iPad? If the later is the case, you
want to make sure you double tap on the iPhone apps button after you have typed
in your search and pressed search or, double tapped on the name of the app you
wanted in the search suggestions that pop up. Once you do this, you will have
the iPhone version of the apps presented to you for download.

hth
