Copying and pasting

2012-10-09 Thread Shane Clark
Hi,
I know that when copying and pasting on the iPhone, you have to be in an edit
box to select text and so forth, is that right? Well then, how do you select
text to copy and paste the link to your Facebook page? For example, let's say
if you're on a webpage and it has H TTP://, and then the rest of the link. Is
it possible to select that text copy it and then paste to Facebook, to show up
on your newsfeed is your status, and not just on your profile? Thanks, Shane.

Copying and pasting

2014-05-12 Thread Tom Cramer
Hi,
If someone sends me an email and I want to copy some of the
information into a note or a file on pages or something, is that
possible? How can I select text from an email itself without needing
to reply to it or being in edit mode? I have no idea how to select,
copy or paste this way. I figured that I could open pages or notes
and then paste the information I want that has been selected. Is this
true?

Hi
Put the voiceover focus into the the text you need to copy. Turn the

chosen field. if neccessary turn the rotor once more to edit. Then flick
to paste.

I forgot you have to tap the screen once everytime you chose an option.

Turn the rotor to words. Use up and down flicks to move VO focus to a word in
the field. Double-tap and hold to highlight the word. Now edit should appear in

Re: copying and pasting

2012-05-09 Thread Holly
Hello Danielle,

It's a little tricky, but here you go. First, make sure you are in an
edit box. Then use the roter to choose the navigation incrament in
which you wish to select: characters, words, etc. The navigate to
where you wish to start selecting, keeping in mind the way voice over
cursers work. Finally, place two fingers close together on the screen
and begin slowly moving them apart. If you do this carefully enough,
you will hear each character or word spoken as it is selected. If you
go too far, bring your fingers slowly back together in a pinching
gesture. This will begin deselecting. Like I said, this is a little
tricky, but it works with practice.

Copying and pasting text.

Hi all.

Yesterday I learned something new that I can copy a number e.g. from redlaser

but is there a gesture for pasting, that I do not know of.

Best regards Annie.

Re: Copying and pasting

2014-05-12 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Yes, this is possible. You want to use the pinch gesture. Find the text
you want to copy, place two fingers on the screen near each other and
then spread them apart. This will select text. You'll select by
characters, words or lines depending on your roter setting. After you've
selected the text you want, use the roter to find the edit option, flick
up or down to copy and then double tap. Now go to the app where you want
to paste the text, again use the roter to find the edit option and flick
up or down to paste and double tap. There are podcasts out there on this
and better descriptions than what I've provided have been posted to the
list, so you should be able to search the web or the list archives to
find them.

You can also use a three finger quadruple tap to copy the last thing
VoiceOver spoke to the clipboard.

to reply to it or being in edit mode? I have no idea how to select,
copy or paste this way. I figured that I could open pages or notes
and then paste the information I want that has been selected. Is this
true?

Re: Copying and pasting text.

2013-11-18 Thread Christopher Chaltain
The three finger quadruple tap to copy to the clipboard was added in IOS
7. There's no gesture for pasting. You still need to twist the roter to
edit, flick up or down to paste and then double tap. I'm presuming you
already know about this though.

Unfortunately, no. You must rotor to "edit", then flick up or down until you
find 'paste", then double tap.

Re: Copying and pasting text.

2013-11-18 Thread Tracy

Hi Annie
There is actually another way to paste too.
Sometimes I'm lazy to use the rotor, so I find the area where VoiceOver says
"text field". I move my finger a little upwards to the border of that area
and double tap and hold there. The phone makes a kind of squiggly sound, and
the paste option appears right above that line.
Just thought I'd share, because I haven't heard this method mentioned here
before. :-)

Copying and Pasting in iOS

2016-12-21 Thread Alan Lemly
Hello List,

I know we've seen improvements in selecting text on our iPhones with the
introduction of the Text Selection rotor item a couple of versions back.
However, I still have trouble after I've selected the text with copying and
pasting it to the desired location. What is the easiest next step after the
text is highlighted to copy it? I thought a shortcut gesture existed that
would bring up a copy option so I wouldn't have to rotor to the edit option
and get copy from it but I'm not having any luck finding it.

Any help that can be suggested will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in
advance.

There is no difference and "Edit" should appear in the rotor. THe only reason I
can think of is if focus is not on the text area, but I would have to test this

Normally doubletapp and hold on link and you should hear the pass-through beeps

Re: Copying and pasting/sharing links

2012-10-23 Thread Rob Harris
OOoo dear Gads if we could go back to some of the conveniences of DOS and
the Wordstar command set. They could put that in the rotor, block start,
block end; then block copy/move/cut or whatever. I could live with that,
no idea how I lived without it this long to be honest. TypeInBraille has
the nearest to that. I'll qualify, TnB seems easier on selection and
navigation than the generic edit field.

Another question about copying and pasting

2012-11-03 Thread Shane Clark
Hi everyone,
I wrote a text message to a friend of mine, that I wanted to post onto another
friend of mine's Facebook. I did not want the first part of the message to be
sent to my other friend, just the second part. When I went down to the part
that I wanted to begin selecting, I could not remember the two fingered pinch
to start selecting text. My question is, how would I begin selecting text from
the second part of that message? Would it be done by the two finger pinch, or
would I have to select every word from my starting point? I'm still kind of
confused, so any help is Appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Copying and pasting on Facebook

2018-09-18 Thread Donna
Hi Anthony

You didn’t mention if you are using an iDevice with the Facebook or Safari or a
computer..Here is the instructions for copying & pasting a post using the
Facebook app on an iDevice.
1. Go to the post that you want to copy & paste.
2. Tap on the post to open as if you are going to post a comment.
3. With the body of the post in focus; Using 3 fingers tap 4 times on the
post. Voiceover will read the post & announce that the post was copied to the
clipboard.
4. Go to What’s On Your Mind in Facebook. Turn the rotor to Edit & flick to
Paste. The post should be pasted & ready for you to post.

Here is another way that some people find to be easier..
1. Go to the post that you want to copy.
2. Put voiceovers focus on the body of the post. 3. Using 2 fingers tap twice &
hold. You should hear 3 tones & a dialogue box will appear with the body of the
post in the box.
4. Turn the rotor to Edit, flick to copy.
5. Go to What’s on your mind. When in the edit field turn the rotor to Edit &
flick to paste.
Post the message.

RE: Copying and Pasting in iOS

Thanks, Mary. I must have dreamed that you could do a single finger double tap
and hold to bring up a floating sidebar menu that would allow you to copy
selected text. If I've ever gotten such a thing to work, it's not working
anymore so I'll stick to the rotor edit option.

Re: Copying and Pasting in iOS

2016-12-21 Thread 'Carol Pearson' via VIPhone
Yes, it does work but not consistently for me. It seems to depend on where you
double tap and hold. I've had more success tapping on the username then
flicking left to go to the various options.

Hope this might encourage everyone to try this some more. I did not realise it
was there till it came up in this thread.
I also found that when I've double tapped, it's worked after holding for a
coucouple of seconds or so.

Hope this helps a bit.

RE: Another question about copying and pasting

2012-11-03 Thread Richard Turner
You could get VoiceOver to the start of what you want to copy, make sure the
rotor is set to lines, then pinch your two fingers together before touching
the screen, once your two fingers are touching the screen, spread them apart
from left to right, not up and down.
Repeat that pattern until you have everything selected. Then, turn the
rotor to edit and flick up or down to copy and double tap.
I assume you already know how to then paste it.

I find this works a lot of the time, but sometimes, it seems that VoiceOver
ends up selecting more than I want, so it is still a bit of a trial and
error process for me.

Richard

Hi everyone,
I wrote a text message to a friend of mine, that I wanted to post onto
another friend of mine's Facebook. I did not want the first part of the
message to be sent to my other friend, just the second part. When I went
down to the part that I wanted to begin selecting, I could not remember the
two fingered pinch to start selecting text. My question is, how would I
begin selecting text from the second part of that message? Would it be done
by the two finger pinch, or would I have to select every word from my
starting point? I'm still kind of confused, so any help is Appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: copying and pasting on the iphone

2012-12-03 Thread Shane Clark
Hi,
To get the rotor to edit mode, You must be in and edit field, then once you
turn your rotor, edit mode will show up. Also to Select text, you can use the
pinching gesture. That is where you take your fingers and put two of them on
the screen, and slide them slightly apart, to select text. I am still trying to
get this one down as well. For me, it's kind of tricky.

It would be good if you could move the edit field between the word and
character fields the this way it would be easier to edit text. I find that
changing the router settings to words before doing the pinch gesture allows you

You start with the two fingers together and then move them apart to
select text. You bring them together to unselected text you've just
selected. I'm not sure about Facebook, but I've selected text in email
messages, edit fields and the like. Remember that you can use the roter
to determine the chunks that will be selected, e.g. characters, words,
lines and so on.

Hi guys The next episode of the iBlindTech Democast is now available. In
this episode I take a look at using the pinch gesture to select text.
I then walk through how to work with text by using the copy and paste
options in the rotor.

Here is the link to the actual post:

I highly recommend you check out the democasts on Garth's website at

good chance they will answer many of your questions and help you perfect
many of the more tricky gestures.

selecting text, copying and pasting text in Facebook.

2017-09-25 Thread Candy Lowe
Hello everyone,
I am trying to select text, copy, and paste some text that someone has posted
to facebook. I see no way to select the text even though text selection is in
my rotor. I am sure that you all have seen people ask others to copy and
paste text to their status on facebook, and not share. How would I accomplish
this?

Thanks in advance.

Copying and pasting using voiceover on an iPhone?

2023-09-04 Thread Dacia Luck
Hi,
I know you can copy text with voiceover using a three finger quadruple tap, is
there a similar gesture that you can use to paste text? Or do you have to go
through the rotor?

Braille and copying and pasting text in IOS 7.

2013-11-11 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi all.

I am running IOS 7, and I like it very much, there are really some tasks that
has been much easier for a braille user, but I have one which is really a pain.

If I will copy and paste text with braille it is nearly impossible to get to
work. Can anyone tell me how you do these tasks now.

If I e.g. get a link somewhere that will be placed in the clipboard, e.g. if I
wants to share a link from ibooks, I can not get allowed to insert with space+v
any longer.

I hope you can help.

Best regards Annie.

Selecting, copying, and pasting a link from an email

2014-09-02 Thread Terri S
Hey I was wondering, can anyone tell me how to copy and paste a link from
within an email? How do I even selected to be able to do the rest? I have no
clue. I am hoping this is possible. I would like to be able to download some
files. I would like to be able to select the link from the email, and maybe
copy and paste it into iShare. I don't know if this is possible though. But I
thought I would give it a try. Hello everyone,

If anyone has done this before, or name is how it can be done, please let me
know. Any help with this would be very much appreciated. I do not have a
computer right now, as mine has died. Eventually I hope to replace it. But in
the meantime, I would still like to be able to read some books and such. I'm
sure all of you can understand this?

and thank you for reading.

Re: selecting text, copying and pasting text in Facebook.

2017-09-25 Thread Paul Sandoval
Candy,

The best help that I can offer is to do a 3 finger quadruple tap to copy last
spoken phrase to paste board.
Then when you are in the field to post your status with the edit field in “is
editing” mode, you can rotor to edit flick down to paste, and double tap.
You might need to clean up any extra text that VO may have attached.
I hope this helps.

RE: Copying and pasting using voiceover on an iPhone?

2023-09-04 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Go into Settings -> Accessibility -> VoiceOver -> Commands -> Touch Gestures.
Now find a gesture that isn't being used, like the four finger triple tap.
Double tap this and go down to the edit section and select paste. Now a four
finger triple tap will paste the text that's in the clipboard. You can also
change a gesture that's already been assigned using the same steps.

I have tried that too, bot for some reason it does not work all the time, and

When you're in the document where you want to paste, double-tap so you can

Also, with zoom on, most VoiceOver gestures need an extra tap. So, to copy what
VoiceOver just said would take 5 taps with three fingers instead of 4.
I think it is easier to remember to turn off zoom.

I'm not familiar with iShare, but you can first double-tap-and-hold on the link
in an email, then choose "copy" from the menu that pops up. Then you can go
into an edit field and turn your rotor to "edit", then flick down to "paste"

RE: Selecting, copying, and pasting a link from an email

2014-09-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Christopher and others,

The 3-finger quadruple tab works great, but there is one problem or I would
actually call it a bug. If Voiceover reads a link or a phone number, it will
after reading the text or number say "link detected" or "phone number
detected:". If you use the 3-finger quadruple tap to copy the last spoken
passage to the clipboard and then paste the link elsewhere, it will,
unfortunately, also add the text "link detected" at the end of the link itself.
In the case of a phone number it would put the text "phone number detected". I
find this quite annoying since the gesture literally copies whatever Voiceover
says. If, for example, you get Voiceover to speak an email address it will add
"email address detected" and if you touch an icon on the home screen, for
example, the Phone icon and you have hints enabled so Voiceover would say
"Phone double tap to open" if you did a 3-finger quadruple tap and pasted the
result, you would literally get the entire text of "Phone double tap to open".

Regards,
Sieghard

Re: Selecting, copying, and pasting a link from an email

2014-09-02 Thread Alex Hall
I wouldn't call that a bug exactly. After all, what if you needed to copy the
hint text for some reason? It's an exact duplicate of the "copy last spoken
phrase" command for VoiceOver on the Mac, which does the same thing. I
understand your frustration, as this has gotten in my way several times as
well, but the feature itself is doing exactly what it should. I can't think of
a good way to solve this.

Another thing that you could do with a link in an email message or any other
text VoiceOver just read is use the three finger quadruple tap.
This will copy what VoiceOver just spoke to the clipboard. Make sure you tap
quickly though since a three finger triple tap will toggle the screen curtain
on and off.

What's new in IOS 7, e.g. copying and pasting text with VoiceOver

2013-10-09 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Sorry if everyone else has already seen this, but I just read the
article on What's New in IOS 7 posted to AFB's Access World at
http://www.afb.org/afbpress/pub.asp?DocID=aw141004#content

I thought it was a good overview of some of the new features in IOS 7.
In particular, I learned that you can tap three fingers four times to
copy the text VoiceOver just spoke to the clipboard and then tap three
fingers four times again to paste that text into an edit field.

2013-10-09 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Christopher,

Thanks for sharing this article!

These are always welcome and helpful discussions. :)

Personally, despite any feelings of disdain I may have for the lousy UX I'm
finding in iOS 7 as a whole, ;) I am nothing but amazed at the innovations that
the accessibility / VoiceOver team has added into this current incarnation of
VO. No, I don't like the VO sounds being handled separately from the mute
switch, nor do I obviously like the current crop of VO bugs, ;) but the VO
features we have access to now, and the way they are implemented, are nothing
short of genius.

So in that regard, VO in general, on the mobile platform now, is simply amazing!

Thanks again, and have a great day!

Smiles,

Cara :)

Thanks for the correction. I tested this myself after seeing your

Sorry if everyone else has already seen this, but I just read the article on
What's New in IOS 7 posted to AFB's Access World at
http://www.afb.org/afbpress/pub.asp?DocID=aw141004#content

I thought it was a good overview of some of the new features in IOS 7.
In particular, I learned that you can tap three fingers four times to copy
the text VoiceOver just spoke to the clipboard and then tap three fingers
four times again to paste that text into an edit field.

Copying and pasting from mail to face book using an Amazon basic Bluetooth keyboard.

2016-08-15 Thread cmohney1961
Hello all, Up until today, I had no problem copying from an email message to
Facebook. I opened the message. Got to the part I wanted to copy. Pressed
control option shift and the letter v. Which selects the text I want to copy.
Then, I go to face book click on the what's on your mind. Then I go to the same
saying that has the edit button. Double tap on that which turns the quick nav
off. I turn it back on. Hold down the right arrow and press the up arrow
until it says edit. Then I let go of the right arrow and double tap on paste.
When I do that, I hear a well, I say something that sounds like a drum as I'm
pressing the paste button. Up until today, three text would show up in the
edit window after I turned the quick nav back on. I like to check it GeV t o
make sure it is correct before I post it. When I checked today nothing was
there. I tried it on my iPhone and iPod and didn't see any text. I'm using
the latest version of iOS and Facebook. I tried turning off and back on both
devices and keyboards. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

RE: Copying and pasting a text message when you receive a text message from your I Phone

2014-04-29 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Terri,

You can try to switch the rotor to words, then flick down to read your text
message word by word. Once you get to the code, let Voiceover read it,
afterwards do a 3-finger quadruple tap, this is the command to copy whatever
was last spoken to the clipboard. Now you can start a new text message and
you can turn the rotor to Edit, then flick down until you get to Paste and
double tap.

You can also use the manual way to select the code, this involves finding
the code, then put 2 fingers on the screen and slowly move them apart (it's
called a pinch out). You can control how much text is selected by setting
your rotor to character or words or lines. Once you selected all the text
you want turn the rotor to Edit, flick down to copy and double tap, then
pasting is as described above.

Garth on his website www.iBlindTech.com has a podcast describing how to
select, copy and paste text which may help, but using the 3-finger quadruple
tap after a particular part of text has been spoken often works very well.
Only problem here is that sometimes after a tracking number or phone number
Voiceover will say "link" to indicate that the number in question is a link
one can double tap on. In that case the word "link" is also copied and you
have to delete it from the end of whatever number or text after you paste
it.

I think I'll write to Apple about this because this should not be part of
what gets copied since Voiceover speaks it, but it's not part of the text
yet once you paste the text, it becomes plain text.

Regards,

Sieghard

2014-04-29 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
This is a feature which was introduced in iOS 7 and a very useful one at
that. Now they just have to fix this little issue where Voiceover
announcements such as "link" or "phone number detected" etc. are included as
text when you copy stuff in this way.If I get Voiceover to read a phone
number and want to copy that I want just the phone number and I don't need
the text "phone number detected" at the end of it after I paste it.
