Hi Margaret,

if you try to play music on your watch, or audio or a podcast, the AirPods will
probably connect automatically.

If you say “Earpods” do you mean the wired Earpods or are y ou talking about
the bluetooth “Airpods”?

If you are talking about Airpods, I just posted a reply to Karla who also had a
question and my post has a link to an Apple support article which explains in
great detail how to use all the features of the Airpods and what sort of
behaviour to expect when you use a single one or both or when you remove one

Re: any tips on using the new apple ear pods with the button on the back

2018-01-04 Thread Anthony Vece
Hi Janet;

I found that the reset button will sometimes work with the I devices if the
AirPods go disconnect.

Also, if you open the case and, press the button, you can pair them with the VR
Trek however, the volume on the Trek is so low that they are almost unusable.

Hope this helps.

God Bless

2018-01-04 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Janet,

The button on the back is for when you want to pair the airpods with an older
Apple device or any non-Apple device. Put both airpods in the case, close it,
and press the button for a few seconds. Then you can pair it as you would any
other bluetooth device.

Best,
Anna

RE: Ear pods and Siri

2017-09-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
And finally when iOS 11 comes out you can set up the Airpods so one side gets
SIRI to listen and when you tap the other side it works as Play/Pause.
Now they just have to add volume up/down functionality and skip forward/back
and I might even buy a set.
But let's first see if there will be a new Airpod with a W2 chip next week.

puzzled that, with my iPhone in my pocket, double tapping on my earpod did not
work when out and about to evoke Siri. It just occurred to me today to check
Siri settings and when I turned on Allow Siri when locked, my double tap was
recognised at once! These little things do help... Harry

Ear pods and Siri

2017-09-06 Thread Harry Bell
In just sharing a discovery, though others may already know this. I'd been
puzzled that, with my iPhone in my pocket, double tapping on my earpod did not
work when out and about to evoke Siri. It just occurred to me today to check
Siri settings and when I turned on Allow Siri when locked, my double tap was
recognised at once! These little things do help... Harry

Apple ear pods, really?

2016-12-13 Thread regina alvarado
Hmmm! Very interesting. I just got a notification that the Apple ear pods have
hit eBay at 1590. Really? Is that pennies, dollars, or dollars and cents. My
chuckle for today. I even listened on my lock screen about 4 more times because
I was so incredulous, but yes I and you now heard it right!

RE: Siri and Ear pods or other headphones

2015-10-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I wouldn't recommend it, if any small amount of glue gets into the gaps your
Earpods will be ruined. Also, I think somebody must have absolutely gigantic
fingers to have problems since that centre area is more than a half inch wide,
almost 5/8 inches, which should be mor than enough for the tip of even a very
large finger.

Sieghard

I wonder if large fingers could press the center button of the headset easier
if it were raised by a small piece of plastic being superglued to the center

Hello, Richard.

SIRI works pretty well with my Apple EarPods and with the Bose MIE2i
headphones. However, I'm using an iPhone 5 with iOS 8.3, and I'm thinking you
are trying to use a later phone with a more recent iOS version.

RE: Ear pods

2015-08-04 Thread Merv Keck
Hi,

I ordered the individual who needed a set directly from the Apple store today.
They were $29 plus tax. Since we live in Florida I guess that would be 7% sales
tax. They said free shipping and would probably arrive tomorrow. I ordered them
directly from my iPhone 5S and the information was already stored on the Apple
site except for my three digit security code. The only thing that bothered me
about the whole process is that I have tossed away several sets of these over
the ears because no one in the house ever used them or intended to use them. I
guess sometimes being a pack rat has its advantages, laughs!

2014-11-21 Thread Alan J Paganelli
The retail price is $99.99. I waited until Amazon.com put it on special and
paid $69.99 with free shipping. My ear peace is always in my ear 7 days a
week. It's comfortable and it's 2 controls are easy to get at. One is an
on/off power switch and the other is a slider which permits adjusting the
volume..

For an iPod there are very good ear phones in almost all price ranges from

headset with full ear cups. But for making phone calls, listening to
spoken audio or GPS information, I find that the Apple Ear pods work best
for me. I have also heard people saying they don't like them because they
are too big for their ears and don't stay in and once again that is not a
problem for me. In fact, if I put them in correctly I can turn my head to
the side and shake it like a dog and they won't come out. I also like the
fact that I can just put in the right side a bit which gives me access to
the remote control for picking up phone calls, playing/pausing audio or
for use with Blindsquare and they block out very little external sound
which is good when I am walking and have to listen to traffic. A lot of
higher-end ear buds have foam to block out as much sound from the outside
as possible so you can hear better whatever it is you are listening to,
but of course for most blind people that is not very desirable.

I think bluetooth headsets won't work for me. I don't like the lag
enough as it is with my braile display although it's really not there
with that, but I have noticed it with bluetooth keyboards and such on my
computer so figure the phone might be the same, and I've hated every
wireless headset I've had because I don't expect perfect sound, but my
head moves a lot so something going in and out is an issue.

I agree with Allen that the Voyager Legend is one of the best bluetooth

voice control, i.e. you can say Answer and it will answer the call

it might be less noticeable to some. Where I notice it is when I am trying
to type text on the virtual keyboard. If you use the standard method of
text entry you may not even notice it, but if you use touch typing and are
fairly quick with it you will notice it as it is just ever so slightly
less responsive than with a wired headset or no headset. It's not much,
but enough that at least for me it is annoying and the reason why I prefer
the Apple Ear Pods. I find them even more comfortable and while I can't
say Answer to answer a call, I can just press the Answer button on the

There are good bluetooth headsets both single earpieces and stereo
headsets.
However, you will not find a bluetooth headset which will not have a
slight
lag and the audio quality will not be as good as that of a wired headset.
Of
course this all depends on your standard and that of the caller on the

Ok so earpods are wired, thanks for that info too. are others using
wireless ones with remotes that they like? My only reason for asking is
I often use my braille display with my phone so I have the phone in my

wireless headsets of any kind seem inferior to me. I have never used a

There are a ton of ear bud style as well as over the ear style headsets out
there which have the Apple remote control. If the headset says it works with
the iPhone it will most likely have the remote control. Anyhow, you got a pair
of ear pods with your iPhone 5, why not use them for a while, they really are
very nice for the $30 price which is what they cost if you buy them separately.

No I didn't get the earpods unfortunately as I got this IPhone 5 used, I
got a charger and a working phone for less than half new price, wasn't
thinking about earbuds at the time. Lol.

very nice for the $30 price which is what they cost if you buy them separately.

a bit which gives me access to the remote control for picking up phone calls,
playing/pausing audio or for use with Blindsquare and they block out very
little external sound which is good when I am walking and have to listen to

the outside as possible so you can hear better whatever it is you are listening
to, but of course for most blind people that is not very desirable.

RE: ear pods?

2014-11-18 Thread Alan Lemly
I'll echo Sieghard's comments about the Apple earpods. I also have an iPhone
5 and prefer the wired earpods for the majority of my listening. I think
they sound much better than bluetooth devices I've used and I find the
remote and volume buttons very convenient when listening to books while I'm
moving about. The remote button gives me access to play and stop and move
backward and forward without having to access the touch screen which is most
convenient when walking. I also think the sound quality is quite good.

Ok so earpods are wired, thanks for that info too. are others using
wireless ones with remotes that they like? My only reason for asking is
I often use my braille display with my phone so I have the phone in my
purse or what not and may want to listen, but I myself notice that
wireless headsets of any kind seem inferior to me. I have never used a
bluetooth setup to take calls, but if the cutting out I got from really
expensive wireless headphones is any indication, it might be a
nightmare. I do have head motion problems, and I wonder if this affects
the bluetooth or wireless sensor.

Re: ear pods?

2014-11-18 Thread Alan J Paganelli
If answering phone calls is more important to you, then I would suggest a
Bluetooth ear peace such as the Plantronics Voyager Legend. You can still
listen to good quality audio books, mp3 music etc and when a phone call
comes in, the music gets paused and you can take your phone call. Assuming
of course your device is an iPhone.

For an iPod there are very good ear phones in almost all price ranges from
around 20 dollars on up to several hundred dollars.

RE: ear pods?

2014-11-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
There are good bluetooth headsets both single earpieces and stereo headsets.
However, you will not find a bluetooth headset which will not have a slight lag
and the audio quality will not be as good as that of a wired headset. Of course
this all depends on your standard and that of the caller on the other end. If
you get too much of your body between the headset and your phone you may
experience drop-outs.

the right side a bit which gives me access to the remote control for
picking
up phone calls, playing/pausing audio or for use with Blindsquare and they
block out very little external sound which is good when I am walking and
have to listen to traffic. A lot of higher-end ear buds have foam to block
out as much sound from the outside as possible so you can hear better
whatever it is you are listening to, but of course for most blind people
 that is not very desirable.

Re: ear pods?

2014-11-18 Thread Alan J Paganelli
A good Bluetooth ear peace should cause no trouble taking and making phone
calls. I have the Plantronics Voyager Legend which is an ear peace meaning
it fits over the top of either ear and a boom style microphone points down
at about a 45 degree angle. I cary my iPhone 5s in my lefthand pants pocket
and have the ear peace in my left ear. The biggest advantage to this is, it
leaves your hands free. When a phone call comes in, the legend announces
the callers name if you granted permission to load contact names into the
ear peace's memory. The legend announces the callers name and asks you
answer or ignore. If you say ignore, then the caller is sent to voice mail.
If you say, answer then the caller is put through and you can start talking
to that person. The ear peace goes for around a hundred bucks but if you
keep an eye on Amazon, you can get it when they put it on special for $69.99
and free shipping. It was well worth the wait for it to go on special.
Other places have it as well so it pays to shop around.

There are good bluetooth headsets both single earpieces and stereo headsets.
However, you will not find a bluetooth headset which will not have a slight
lag and the audio quality will not be as good as that of a wired headset. Of
course this all depends on your standard and that of the caller on the other
end. If you get too much of your body between the headset and your phone you

I agree with Allen that the Voyager Legend is one of the best bluetooth single
earpieces you can get. Others like the Jabra Supreme also have voice control,
i.e. you can say Answer and it will answer the call without you even touching
the headset, but the lag is still there although it might be less noticeable to
some. Where I notice it is when I am trying to type text on the virtual
keyboard. If you use the standard method of text entry you may not even notice
it, but if you use touch typing and are fairly quick with it you will notice it
as it is just ever so slightly less responsive than with a wired headset or no
headset. It's not much, but enough that at least for me it is annoying and the
reason why I prefer the Apple Ear Pods. I find them even more comfortable and
while I can't say Answer to answer a call, I can just press the Answer button
on the remote.

I knew I had gotten used to my Apple Earpods when I was listening to
music with a pair of regular headphones, went to adjust the volume,
and remembered that the headphones were not the EarPods. When I got my
first iPhone several years ago, I threw the earbuds away, not knowing
what they were and not caring. Then about 6 months later I realized
what I had done and was sorry. I got a pair of new EarPods with my
recent iPhone 6 purchase, and have put them in a drawer for when the
current ones bite the dutst. It doesn't happen very often, but I've
had to make the trip to an Apple Store at least once to get a
replacement before.

I agree with Allen that the Voyager Legend is one of the best bluetooth
single earpieces you can get. Others like the Jabra Supreme also have voice
control, i.e. you can say Answer and it will answer the call without you
even touching the headset, but the lag is still there although it might be
less noticeable to some. Where I notice it is when I am trying to type text
on the virtual keyboard. If you use the standard method of text entry you
may not even notice it, but if you use touch typing and are fairly quick
with it you will notice it as it is just ever so slightly less responsive
than with a wired headset or no headset. It's not much, but enough that at
least for me it is annoying and the reason why I prefer the Apple Ear Pods.
I find them even more comfortable and while I can't say Answer to answer a
call, I can just press the Answer button on the remote.

There are good bluetooth headsets both single earpieces and stereo headsets.

However, you will not find a bluetooth headset which will not have a slight
lag and the audio quality will not be as good as that of a wired headset. Of
course this all depends on your standard and that of the caller on the other
end. If you get too much of your body between the headset and your phone you
 may experience drop-outs.

I'm sure the Plantronics Voyager Legend is an excellent bluetooth headset
but we should mention that it sells for 73.43 USD at Amazon versus 29.00 USD
at the online Apple store for the Apple earpods.

Know what's available thoroughly including its cost and you'll make the best
purchasing decision.

fact, if I put them in correctly I can turn my head to the side and
shake it like a dog and they won't come out. I also like the fact
that I can just put in the right side a bit which gives me access to
the remote control for picking up phone calls, playing/pausing audio
or for use with Blindsquare and they block out very little external
sound which is good when I am walking and have to listen to traffic.
A lot of higher-end ear buds have foam to block out as much sound
from the outside as possible so you can hear better whatever it is
you are listening to, but of course for most blind people that is not
very desirable.

I think bluetooth headsets won't work for me. I don't like the lag
enough as it is with my braile display although it's really not there
with that, but I have noticed it with bluetooth keyboards and such on my

New Ear Pods

2012-09-21 Thread E Steven S
Ear Pods are what Apple calls their new ear buds.

I got my wife's 5 today and snagged the Ear Pods. They are a chunky, kind of
wedge that goes into the ear, but not into the ear canal. They are quite
comfortable. However, they are made of a slick plastic and the right one
especially keeps sliding out of my ear, which then pulls the left out, too.

I am wondering about some kind of stick'em I might try to give them some
viscosity. Maybe I could let my ears build up some wax for a few days?

These may not sound tons better than the old buds, but I think they are a
definite improvement. The cord is the same, but the in-line control is
larger.

I can't wait till my wife starts her phone so I can judge performance. It is
just a half inch or so taller and one-quarter inch thinner. It also is
slightly lighter, but the same width. I don't think anyone will have any
problem adjusting to the added height. It has a half inch or so of glass at
the top and bottom edges on the back with the rest aluminum. I do think this
will make it feel more secure in the hand and not like it might slip through
your fingers. I think the audio jack on the bottom with the speaker is an
improvement because I drop the phone into my pocket with the speaker aimed
upward to better hear alerts.

Just a quick impression of form...
