Hoping one of you can answer this one.

My kid seems to get weather alerts that my husband and I don’t get. We all live
in the same house. I joke that my phone secretly wants me dead.

Can anybody tell me why this might be happening? My kid got an alert this
morning that neither my husband and I got, a weather one and we are obviously
all effected by the same weather systems.

Hi. Are all of you using the same weather app? Different apps have different
ways they can push out alerts. some let you customize when an alert is pushed
out. With some you can have it notify you if a watch/warning is in your general
area as well as very close weather like pop up storms. Your daughter may have
her phone set to alert if something is definitely happening in your immediate
area. If all else fails, put all three phones die by side and compare settings.

Now, I need to figure out what Blue alert, until Auguist 17 means.

Note, I am now reccomending to all that people do not sleep with their phone
close to their ear. The volume of the Alert system is really really, loud.

LOL, I narrowily avoided having to change my sheets.

I have amber alerts turned off, emergency and public safety alerts are on. This
has been the case since getting my IPhone 5 in 2012. But the only
weather-related alert I have ever received on any of my phones is the flash
flood warning. No severe thunder storm or tornado warnings ever, and there have
been both of these warnings issued for my specific area since 2012. I wonder
why none of these warnings? Thanks for any opinions.

I was under the impression that these systems put out the alert tone that way
as it's a high chance you need to hear them and if people are asleep it's loud
enough to wake you so you can be sure it's a for real issue.

Is there a way to receive emergency alerts without the obnoxious sound on my iPhone?

2021-08-11 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

One thing that I like about iOS is the ability to receive emergency alerts. For
me, however, there's a problem. When one of the alerts arrives, it's
accompanied by a very loud tone, and that really startles me. It's so bad for
me that I had to turn these off to avoid being scared out of my wits. Is there
a way to get these without that tone?

Any help would really be appreciated.

RE: Emergency Alerts - Any Way to Edit These?

2019-06-17 Thread sherrywells1157
Hello James,

How annoying it would be to get Amber alerts from a totally different part of
the world! Check settings / notifications, go to the very bottom of the list.
In the US, we have 2 entries under government alerts. One is Amber alert which
you can toggle on / off. The other is emergency alerts which is everything
else. Since you are getting alerts from the US, maybe these options will show
up for you. Hopefully you don't get weather alerts from the US too!

Re: Emergency Alerts - Any Way to Edit These?

2019-06-17 Thread James English
Hello,

My phone, being the idiot it is, likes to give me amber alerts.
From...Austin Texas, I know not why. Any way of turning these off?

If it helps, I live in Scotland.

Luckily we in the US can turn Amber alerts off. I would certainly be of no
help there. If I was sighted, I would have the Amber alert on. I agree that
anyone who would call 911 to complain about an Amber alert is a selfish idiot.

And if you are in Canada the Setting to turn these off does not exist, our
government feels that if they put out such an alert everybody should get it
although I believe it won’t play if your phone is muted.

Recently an amber alert was issued in Ontario for a missing 3-year old boy and
I think it was around 4 or 5 in the morning. About a dozen people called 9 1 1
to complain about being woken up and who gives the government the right to do
this and they just don’t care anyways if a child was missing. The boy was found
quite quickly, by the way, people who react like this are such selfish idiots.

Re: Emergency Alerts - Any Way to Edit These?

2019-06-16 Thread Kimberly
Under settings, go into notifications and scroll all the way to the bottom.
There’s a heading that says something like government notifications and under
that you will see settings for amber alerts and emergency notifications. That’s
where you can turn those off.

Emergency Alerts - Any Way to Edit These?

2019-06-16 Thread sherrywells1157
Hello List,

We had some tornado warnings in my area & my phone dutifully blasted me with
an alert. At 4A M I got another alert but found it was for a flash flood.
There are some areas in my county where people would need this alert but I
do not need it in my downtown apartment building. Is there any way to
change something so that I get alerts for tornados & impending alien
invasions but not flash floods? Also, is there any way to change the alert
sound so it is not quite so loud? I looked through settings but could find
nothing. If it matters, I have a 5s IPhone.

Thanks,
Sherry Wells

Subject: Turning Off Flash Flood Emergency Alerts

Hey all,

This morning I was rudely awaken very early by my iPhone to a stupid flash
flood emergency warning that came through on my phone even though Do Not
Disturb was enabled. The sound was the same loud sound for an Amber alert. I
live in an area where I should not be getting these flash flood warnings. Does
anyone know if there is a way to disable these alerts as I do not want them and
it should not override my do not disturb. I went in to Emergency/SOS settings
but could not find anything about turning these alerts off. Thanks,

Re: emergency alerts and T-mobile

2017-03-29 Thread Wayne Merritt
I haven't gotten alerts from T-Mobile, but I have also turned off the
government/Amber alerts. Like others, I use other apps for weather
notifications, like Dark Sky and NOAA Weather International. I think I
have the free Red Cross Tornado app to send tornado alerts, but that
hasn't happened yet where I live.

I've gotten alerts in the past on my t-mobile iPhone, at least I *think* I
have. Last night the only weather notifications I got were from MyRadar. But we

emergency alerts and T-mobile

2017-03-29 Thread Gordon
I'm wondering if you all get emergency alerts on your T-mobile iPhones?
I've never received one including this morning when we were put under a
tornado warning for a brief time. The only reason I woke up was because
of the Cricket wireless phone we have in the house that did receive the
alert. this one was pretty serious because it was close. So I'm glad I
woke up and could turn on the live coverage. All of my stuff under
government alerts is turned on under notifications.

iOS 6 devices able to receive emergency alerts

2012-06-16 Thread Wayne Merritt
Greetings. I saw this on Twitter and thought some may be interested.
If you have already seen this story from social media, then disregard.
It sounds very interesting and like a possible solution for those
looking for apps that give storm warning alerts.
With iOS 6, Apple devices will receive national emergency alerts:
