RE: BARD on the Echo 10- my mistake

2022-08-01 Thread deidreandlouise
Hello all

I’m sorry I got you all excited about accessing BARD on an Echo device. I just
realized it was NFB Newsline I never got working on the Echo. I just opened it
and told it I wanted to read the New Yorker which is in my favorites. It
started reading something at such a rapid rate, it was total gibberish. Alexa
would not allow me to change the rate of speech by simply talking to the
device. I might have to do that from the screen or the Alexa App.

I wonder if someone confused Bookshare with BARD?

Bookshare has a skill for Echo devices that I believe is still in beta, and
when I tried it a few months ago, was not worth the trouble.

BARD certainly is not on Echo yet.

If I'm wrong, someone please cite the source for their information.

Can someone tell me the best place to get info on how to read BARD Books using

haven't succeededin getting abook to load up, even if it has been downloaded

Here is the link plus the app store description. It was just updated on
January 17th, 2021.
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/withings-thermo/id1108420798
Description
The Thermo app helps you take care of your whole family's health. Created for
use with Thermo, the Withings smart temporal thermometer, the app automatically
syncs temperature readings for each user via WiFi or Bluetooth. Each user can
then view a complete history of temperature readings on their timeline.

To create a more detailed history, you can easily add extra information to each
reading:

Symptoms: Whatever and whenever you or someone you care for experiences a
symptom, it's easier than ever to keep track so you can relay this info to your
doctor.

Medicine: What did you take and when? Add medications administered to
understand how they affect temperature and so you know when and if you need
more.

Comments: Add any additional notes that may be relevant to your temperature or
illness.

Photos: Strange rash? Feeling better? Select a picture from your phone's
gallery, or take a new picture to add to your timeline.

The Thermo app also provides the following useful features:

Reminder: Set a reminder to take your temperature at certain hours of the day
or in specific time increments.

Manual Temperature: If you don't own Withings Thermo, or simply want to enter additional
temperature readings, you can do just that. Simply select "Manual Temperature"
and add your details.

Thermo and Apple Health work seamlessly together, so you can retrieve all your
health data in one place for easier health tracking.

If you log a high temperature reading, Thermo can help you assess the severity
of your fever.

Insights: Thermo provides fever management advice to help you monitor
temperature and symptoms

Ask ThermiaT: An educational tool developed by Boston Children's Hospital,
ThermiaT provides recommendations on when it's time to see a doctor and as well
as advice on proper medications and dosages.

RE: mistake

2021-02-08 Thread Richard Turner
NO.
You have to point the thermometer at your forehead, keeping it about one half
inch from your skin and move it over to your temple maintaining the same
distance.
Then, the results show up on the app on your iPhone.
Sieghard posted very good information about the technique.
Here is the important part of his post:
It takes a few practice runs to get the timing right, i.e. how fast you move
it. You don't, by the way, touch the skin but hold it about a half inch or so
away from it. I usually put my thumb right on the edge of the sensor which is
recessed in a round opening and keep the same distance from my forehead this
way. It takes about 4 seconds or so between the first vibration when it's ready
and the second which indicates it's done and in that time you should move from
the middle of your forehead to your temple.
Just to show how quickly the result usually is transferred to your iPhone, I
did the following test just now in order to count how many seconds it takes:
1. I pressed the button and after it vibrated I moved it along my forehead to
my temple counting 2. After the second vibration I put the thermometer down and
wrote the following:
"It takes about 4 seconds or so between the first vibration when it's ready and
the second which indicates it's done and in that time you should move from the
middle of your forehead to your temple."
3. I was almost done writing this sentence when I heard the sound that there
was a notification and Voiceover started up and read the following notification:
Thermo, new reading, unassigned, 37.20 degrees at 7:51 AM And for those who use
these weird Fahrenheit measurements, this would be 98.96 degrees I also just
repeated the measurement about 5 minutes later and this time I counted how long
it took for the notification to pop up and it was around 26 seconds, seemed the
first was a bit faster. Anyways, the result this time was 37.1 degrees so a 0.1
degree Celsius difference or about 0.2 degrees Fahrenheit.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Perhaps you should check for the infrared thermometers that talk so no app is

It probably asked to allow it to use the microphone which many apps do. I
haven't cchecked, but it's of course possible that you can enable SIRI
shortcuts or something like that. I wouldn't worry about it, just let it access
the microphone and all will be well.

Manual Temperature: If you don't own Withings Thermo, or simply want to enter
additional temperature readings, you can do just that. Simply select "Manual
Temperature" and add your details.

Yes, that should be the one, we bought ours at least 4 or 5 years ago so I'm
sure maybe it has been updated slightly, but ours has worked reliably this
entire time and I am actually not sure if I ever changed the batteries. O f
course there are times when I may only use it once or twice a year, but each
time if I take it out of my drawer, remove the protective cap and press the
button it vibrates which is the signal that it's ready, I then move it from
the middle of my forehead to my temple, it vibrates again indicating it took
the reading. At that point the reading is displayed on the little LCD
screen, I then just put the cap back on and put it back in the drawer and
usually about 20 or 30 seconds later I get a notification on my iPhone which
includes the result. I can tap on this, the Thermo app then opens and I can
assign that reading to myself or, if my wife used it, I can assign it to her
profile since she is also set up in the app. As I said, the thermometer is
connected to our home WiFi so if I get a new phone I only download the app
(or it gets transferred if I use the quick transfer method to set up my new
phone from my old), I just have to sign into the app again and it all works.
It takes a few practice runs to get the timing right, i.e. how fast you move
it. You don't, by the way, touch the skin but hold it about a half inch or
so away from it. I usually put my thumb right on the edge of the sensor
which is recessed in a round opening and keep the same distance from my
forehead this way. It takes about 4 seconds or so between the first
vibration when it's ready and the second which indicates it's done and in
that time you should move from the middle of your forehead to your temple.
Just to show how quickly the result usually is transferred to your iPhone, I
did the following test just now in order to count how many seconds it takes:
1. I pressed the button and after it vibrated I moved it along my forehead
to my temple counting
2. After the second vibration I put the thermometer down and wrote the
following:
"It takes about 4 seconds or so between the first vibration when it's ready
and the second which indicates it's done and in that time you should move
from the middle of your forehead to your temple."
3. I was almost done writing this sentence when I heard the sound that there
was a notification and Voiceover started up and read the following
notification:

Thermo, new reading, unassigned, 37.20 degrees at 7:51 AM
And for those who use these weird Fahrenheit measurements, this would be
98.96 degrees
I also just repeated the measurement about 5 minutes later and this time I
counted how long it took for the notification to pop up and it was around 26
seconds, seemed the first was a bit faster. Anyways, the result this time
was 37.1 degrees so a 0.1 degree Celsius difference or about 0.2 degrees
Fahrenheit.

Best regards,
Sieghard

At Amazon, Withings Thermo - smart Temporal Thermometer, is $99. Is that

It takes 2 triple A batteries, included. I suspect they last quite a while.

Manual Temperature: If you don't own Withings Thermo, or simply want to enter
additional temperature readings, you can do just that. Simply select "Manual
Temperature" and add your details.

Ask ThermiaT: An educational tool developed by Boston Children's Hospital,
ThermiaT provides recommendations on when it's time to see a doctor and as well
as advice on proper medications and dosages.

body thermometer because I don't know which one would be accessible for an

this pandemic times so if you know of one please let me know.  thanks very much

You do realize you need a Bluetooth body thermometer with this app? I don't
think there are just apps which can give you your body temperature with just
the iPhone sinc ethe iPhone simply doesn't have the necessary sensors.
Maybe more information might help, e.g. which thermometer do you have and
doesn't your thermometer have its own app like the Thermo thermometer and app?

RE: thermometers, was RE: mistake

2021-02-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Yes, that should be the one, we bought ours at least 4 or 5 years ago so I'm
sure maybe it has been updated slightly, but ours has worked reliably this
entire time and I am actually not sure if I ever changed the batteries. O f
course there are times when I may only use it once or twice a year, but each
time if I take it out of my drawer, remove the protective cap and press the
button it vibrates which is the signal that it's ready, I then move it from the
middle of my forehead to my temple, it vibrates again indicating it took the
reading. At that point the reading is displayed on the little LCD screen, I
then just put the cap back on and put it back in the drawer and usually about
20 or 30 seconds later I get a notification on my iPhone which includes the
result. I can tap on this, the Thermo app then opens and I can assign that
reading to myself or, if my wife used it, I can assign it to her profile since
she is also set up in the app. As I said, the thermometer is connected to our
home WiFi so if I get a new phone I only download the app (or it gets
transferred if I use the quick transfer method to set up my new phone from my
old), I just have to sign into the app again and it all works.
1. I pressed the button and after it vibrated I moved it along my forehead to
my temple counting
2. After the second vibration I put the thermometer down and wrote the
following:
"It takes about 4 seconds or so between the first vibration when it's ready and
the second which indicates it's done and in that time you should move from the
middle of your forehead to your temple."
3. I was almost done writing this sentence when I heard the sound that there
was a notification and Voiceover started up and read the following notification:
Thermo, new reading, unassigned, 37.20 degrees at 7:51 AM
And for those who use these weird Fahrenheit measurements, this would be 98.96
degrees
I also just repeated the measurement about 5 minutes later and this time I
counted how long it took for the notification to pop up and it was around 26
seconds, seemed the first was a bit faster. Anyways, the result this time was
37.1 degrees so a 0.1 degree Celsius difference or about 0.2 degrees Fahrenheit.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Hi Seighard, it was an app I saw in a quiz  so I decided to download it and
when you opened it it just asked you to press the plus sign.  I haven't got a

iPhone.  I only want a thermometer just to keep an eye on my temperature in
this pandemic times so if you know of one please let me know.  thanks very much

2021-02-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
We have the Withings Thermo which uses WiFi not Bluetooth and once connected it
is simple to use and the app is accessible. It also seems to be very consistent
and accurate, but It is a bit on the pricier side.
You have to check how easy or not it is to get one. They are sold pretty much
everywhere, Apple Store, Amazon, Best Buy etc..

This is why I always read the descriptions in the app store before downloading

Description
Track body temperature. Take care of yourself.

Simple beautiful app for your health.

Save your data to Apple Health or get your temperature from Apple Health. See
the beautiful graphs and stats.

Connect your smart bluetooth thermometer to track the temperature.
Disclaimer: App measurements are just recommendations and can't be used for
diagnostics or medical purpose. Always seek a doctor's advice before making any
medical decisions.

* You see it says you have to have a Smart Bluetooth thermometer ... and if you
did, VoiceOver would likely speak the plus sign as an Add button.

Perhaps you should check for the infrared thermometers that talk so no app is
required. Check out Independent Living Aids or LS products.

Hello.
I seem to be having a bluetooth keyboard command mistake I can’t diagnose.
When opening a message in Mail, I try to use control-options-space to open
the message as I should on my Logitech K-480. Sometimes I end up in More
Actions without the phone having announced that’s where I was going, and I’m
in the list of reply, reply all, etc. There is no way to back out without
say entering say reply, then doing cancel and delete draft. So I end up
closing the app and trying again.
I had thought it was a bad keyboard, which I had to change out for another
reason, but I’m still doing the same thing.

Probably a coordination slump but frustrating.
I have an 8 Plus with version 13.4.1.

Bluetooth keyboard gesture mistake

2020-05-12 Thread Bill Outman
Hello.
I seem to be having a bluetooth keyboard command mistake I can’t diagnose.
When opening a message in Mail, I try to use control-options-space to open the
message as I should on my Logitech K-480. Sometimes I end up in More Actions
without the phone having announced that’s where I was going, and I’m in the
list of reply, reply all, etc. There is no way to back out without say entering
say reply, then doing cancel and delete draft. So I end up closing the app and
trying again.
I had thought it was a bad keyboard, which I had to change out for another
reason, but I’m still doing the same thing.
Probably a coordination slump but frustrating.
I have an 8 Plus with version 13.4.1.

One mistake people make using public WiFi, USA Today

2017-08-18 Thread M. Taylor
One mistake people make using public Wi-Fi Kim Komando , Special for USA
TODAY
Modern Greyhound buses offer free WiFi, a feature the company hopes will
attract younger travelers. (Photo: Greyhound) If I've said it once, I've
said it a thousand times: Avoid doing anything you would not want anyone in
the world to know on public Wi-Fi. You may think you're safe in that busy
café or big-name hotel, but public Wi-Fi is a major liability. It doesn't
matter how safe the connection seems to be; your computer is vulnerable to
hackers because you have no idea who is really in charge of that router or
who has access to it and all the data that passes through it. Knowledge is
power. Learn how crooks attack your computer on public Wi-Fi. There are lots
of ways to protect yourself, of course. Your best defense is a virtual
private network (VPN), which can prevent nosy strangers from snooping on
your browser. You can also employ the usual firewalls and antivirus software
to defend your computer from hackers and malware. Learn more about VPNs and
safe browsing on public WiFi. Even the best security systems have their
weaknesses, and you have likely never heard of this one: File sharing on a
public network can expose your computer to data thieves. This is a scary
problem because you may not even realize that you're sharing files. But if
your computer is on the wrong setting, you may attract any number of
cyber-criminals. So how do you make sure your computer isn't leaking
information by accident? File sharing is very handy, especially for groups
of people. Whether you're using iCloud, Dropbox, or Google Drive, file
sharing allows a large team to work on a single project at once, or families
to browse digital photo albums, or data specialists to organize large
batches of information. This is very convenient, as long as you're on your
own secure network. But if you're sharing files on public Wi-Fi, your
folders may be accessible to anyone connected to the same public network. In
other words, file sharing automatically exposes your computer and everything
you intend to share. Your vacation photos may end up in the wrong hands, and
so could your contracts, spreadsheets, and tax information. In fact, you
don't have to be a hacker to take advantage of shared folders. Anyone who
looks around their network folders can instantly run a search and find
unguarded files. It works the other way around too. An attacker can also set
up a shared folder with malicious files. You may stumble into the mysterious
folder and think, "Wait a minute, where did this come from? Then you click
on it, releasing the malware onto the desktop. There are other ways you can
get into trouble. Learn how to avoid getting hacked on the road. Want to
ensure your privacy? Make sure to turn off file sharing before you connect
to public WiFi. Here's how to do it: 1. Search for "Control Panel" then
click on the best match to open it. 2. Under "Network and Internet," click
on "View network status and tasks. 3. On the next page, click "Change
advanced sharing settings. 4. Under "File and printer sharing," tick off
"Turn off file and printer sharing. 5. To prevent network snoopers from
seeing your computer, tick off "Turn off network discovery" too. 6. Save
changes. 1. Open your Mac's System Preferences (the gear icon on your dock).
2. Click on the "Sharing" icon. 3. On the next "Sharing Page," uncheck File
Sharing. 4. I also recommend that you uncheck all the other sharing services
here when connecting to public Wi-Fi. 5. Close the window and you're set.
Okay, you're done your business, and now you can log off of public Wi-Fi.
You've taken all the necessary precautions, and there's a good chance none
of your information was compromised. Just remember to switch your file
sharing back on when you get back to your home or office. None of these
services will work unless you restore your regular settings. When you're
back on your secure server, you can continue sharing to your heart's
content. How else can you protect yourself from digital intrusion? Be sure
to listen or download my podcasts, or click here to find it on your local
radio station . You can listen to the Kim Komando Show on your phone, tablet
or computer. From buying advice to digital life issues, click here for my
free podcasts . Related:: How not to get hacked when using your plane's

Re: would it be a mistake

2017-08-16 Thread Wayne Merritt
T-Mobile will pay off your phone but it will take longer for that
payment to come, before you owe the prior carrier the money. In other
words, when I switched from AT to T-Mobile in 2015, I got the bill
from AT long before the payment came from T-Mobile. T-Mobile has
been pretty good. They saved me lots of money compared with AT, but
I have started having problems with data and connections, and
making/receiving calls, on my iPhone 7. I live in Austin, TX, in an
apartment complex. I usually get between 1 and 3 bars at home and at
work. Whenever my wife calls me on her T-Mobile iPhone 7, either I am
unable to hear her or she is unable to hear me. One person can talk to
the other, but the other cannot hear the first. I am also having
trouble with the earbuds on my phone. I cannot make or answer calls at
my desk so that the other party can hear me. I have also seen a delay
when getting texts or voicemails. Not all of these can be blamed on
the network, but most of them are T-Mobile's fault. We are switching
back to AT in September when the new iPhones come out. Though AT
is more expensive, they have much better and stronger coverage, both
in our home town and when we travel other places in Texas, like
Dallas, and sometimes to West Texas. There is also an AT tower not
too far from my work, which means I will be getting a strong 5 bars no
matter where I go and which floor I am on. Currently, if I go down to
the basement, I do not get any reception from T-Mobile. But when I go
back to the first floor I get the usual 2 bars. If I go outside, it
goes up to 4 or 5 bars.

Wayne

I don’t know if T-mobile will pay off your phone. However, I wouldn’t be
surprised if they did. The best way to find out what T-mobile will or will
not do is to call them. As far as T-mobile’s coverage. I, after some big

Re: would it be a mistake

2017-08-15 Thread Kelly Pierce
I use the T-Mobile network through a prepaid reseller. Every cell
phone carrier has places of great coverage and places where coverage
is lousy. The only way to know is to look at a coverage map for the
places of interest to you. Ask a sighted friend or call T-Mobile or
visit a T-Mobile store for help reviewing the coverage map for the
places in which you are interested. In the past, the company only had
coverage at the higher end of the cell phone spectrum. These
frequencies did not travel long distances and their signals had
trouble penetrating buildings. T-Mobile has acquired lower frequency
spectrum in many places, which is why it is important to check
coverage maps. Now the coverage in many places is quite reasonable. I
am in Chicago with great coverage, which should be expected in a metro
region of 10 million people. Most people live in and around major
cities, and blind people are not known to drive around in cars long
distances needing a cell phone connection every minute during their
trip.

I just purchased a 7+ phone in June. I have a friend who has TMobile,

I went online and saw with one line and what my current bill is with
A T, with TMobile I'd pay $70 a month. But I am hearing pros and

I truly think AT is greedy and really want to get away from them but
I got the phone on a sale and guess I sort of got caught up in it,
being told other carriers didn't have as good a signal strength,
especially if you travel elsewhere. I don't do much travelling, but

So I need to hear from TMobile users. Do they indeed help pay off

I hope all this is making sense.

Re: Whew, I made a mistake

2017-06-26 Thread christopher hallsworth
Hello, was going to say, I would not put iOS 11 on a phone just yet, until at
least the public beta, having said that you should really wait till general
release unless you are confident in spotting bugs and helping Apple fix them.
Personally I will put them on my trusty old iPad Mini 2 and iPod Touch 6 even
at public beta time, as my iPhone 6s is new and so would rather wait till
general release but that's just me.

RE: Made a mistake on the type of Bluetooth keyboard I need help with

2016-12-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Terri,

I can't help you with the on/off question, I would just Google it, chances are
you'll find a user manual online.

As for charging it, if it charges via a Mini or Micro USB cable you can plug it
into anything you have that can take a USB cable, it makes no difference if you
use the wall adapter of your iPhone, iPad or of some third party product that
came with one.

Something like that normally would probably charge in a couple of hours, but
even charging it for half an hour should get you half a charge since the speed
with which batteries charge decreases when they get fuller, e.g. it may take
half an hour to charge them to half full, but another hour and a half to charge
the second half.

You phone won't see the keyboard until you put it in pairing mode. I can't tell
you how that is done with this keyboard, again this would be in the user
manual. Chances are there could be a small hole somewhere where you have to
press a resessed button with the tip of a pen or paper clip.

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: Made a mistake on the type of Bluetooth keyboard I need help with

Hello everybody,

I want to apologize for my message I wrote to the list earlier. I asked for
help with a Bluetooth keyboard, and I gave the wrong Bluetooth keyboard
information. I realized that it was still showing my older Bluetooth keyboard.
Which was a Logitech.
Anyway, my friend gave me a box wave buddy, Bluetooth keyboard. I don't know if
there are different models of these, or not.
However, my phone isn't even showing it in the list of options. My friend
thought that the keyboard needed to be charged, because she had not used it in
quite a while. He has a different iPhone now.

Anyway, I tried to charge it earlier. But I didn't let it charge for very long,
because I needed my phone. Can I use my block from my iPad mini to plug in the
USB cable, to charge this Bluetooth keyboard? Or do I need to use just a normal
charging block, like one that might have come with my iPhone 5S? Also, how do I
even know if this Bluetooth keyboard is on?
There is a very small switch on the bottom right side, if it is on your phone
and the phone is facing you. You can move it up or down, but you have to use a
fingernail to do so. Right now, but I have it in the up position.

About how long might it take for this keyboard to charge? Also, once it is
charged, and my phone recognizes it, how do I pair it with my phone?

I know nothing about this keyboard. Although I have wanted one for a long time
now. I like how it has to slide out keyboard. And for my last question.
Can I find a layout of the keyboard, somewhere? Or, is there a way for me to
learn the Bluetooth keyboard commands?
I haven't ever done this before, even when I had my other keyboard. I mainly
used it to write texts, or emails. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

A mistake in the last post, a texting bug

2014-09-20 Thread Cathy
I have an i-phone 5 and I have updated to the latest version, version 8, and am
having problems and am wondering if this is a bug, and a known bug to Apple. I
am wondering if any one else is having this problem. When I try to share a
contact card to another i-phone owner, when trying to text, it will not let me.
I hit the send, and nothing happens. I love this and really hope this is just
a bug. Also when I was trying to share a picture, i ran into the same problem.
I was able to figure out another way to do it, but I can not figure out how to
share a contact card. Is anyone else having issues like this?

ITunes mistake, help!!!

2013-06-27 Thread Regina Alvarado
Hello,
Have a problem. I bought MBRAILLE and I paid with my card on file with iTunes.
Only thing was that iTunes said my info was wrong which I understood as my
billing address is different than my address where I live. I put in my
information and iTunes came back session timed out. I wen
back in to the app and tried again. This time it seemed to be correct and I
have been using it since. However, iTunes charged me twice. They must have
charged me when I first put in my info. What can I do? I sure don't want to
pay for MBRAILLE twice. Grrr. no confirmation that it was downloaded to the
app, and then iTunes says they won't send because not all is well with the
information. Any help appreciated.

LifeProof cases like Otterbox defender and Griffin Survivor are good for

Tactile markings are useful too, so suggest SpeedDots products would help

The book is correct. The display starts immediately above the home button.
The space directly to the right and left of the home button is not a part of
the display. Its just empty space, colored either black or white depending
on the color of your iPhone.

this in that they frame the working screen so well; I tend to get a bit
lost or wander off without, when looking for the status bar or something.
Tactile markings are useful too, so suggest SpeedDots products would help
too.

The book is correct. The display starts immediately above the home button.
The space directly to the right and left of the home button is not a part of
the display. Its just empty space, colored either black or white depending
on the color of your iPhone.

 The book suggests above.
