RE: thinking of up grading phones
I have to agree, I’m looking to update my 11 pro max but I’m getting the 13 rather than the 12 simply because the 5g tech is still in the early stages, And if there is an underscreen touch id then hey double the security options. The only thing we have to watch with face id is if attention mode is on, I know for myself looking at the camera is next to bloody impossible and I can look people directly in the eye From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Richard Turner Sent: Friday, 12 March 2021 4:45 am To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: thinking of up grading phones I agree with Sieghard on all counts. Face ID works quite well, blind or not, and also finger dexterity might make entering a passcode hard, but it shouldn’t effect touch ID since you just have to touch the home button after training it, and training it is just touching it at slightly different angles until it learns your finger. And, on upgrading, unless you need a new phone right now because your current phone is malfunctioning, wait and see what the 13 offers, plus, the 11 prices will drop when the 13 comes out. I wouldn't worry about any of this nonsense. There's always something new or rumored on the horizon. If you want or need a new iPhone, go ahead and do it now. - Brad - On Mar 11, 2021, at 09:28, Sieghard Weitzel wrote: I would highly recommend not to upgrade now. It's already mid March and whil the new 2021 phones are still 6 months away, an iPhon e8 is a good phone and I assume it probably works well. Especially if you were thinking of buying an iPhone 12 it is better to wait, if you can get a really good deal on an iPhone 11 and if you don't care to have Touch Id as well as Face Id and you are not concerned about 5G and what the Lidar capable hardware might be capable of with respec tto blindness related app s then its OK to get an iPhone 11 now. In my opinion the 11 Pro or 11 Pro Max are a waste of money and they don't give a blind person a lot of advantages and as I said, I strongly discourage anybody from the iPhone 12 models because of their first generation 5G support, lack of Lidar except of in the Pro Max and maybe the Pro (I forget if only the Pro Max has it or also the Pro), but I know the regular 12 and 12 SE definitely don't have it. If you are somebody who likes to get more than 2 or even 3 years out of an iPhone the iPhone 13 will in my opinion be the way to go. RE: thinking of up grading phones
Another thing I forgot to mention, is that Face ID is great if you happen to have wet finger tips. After washing dishes, I cannot unlock my phone without using my passcode. I have the SE 2nd gen, so no face ID. But when I was working and used the iPHone 11, the Face ID worked great. Just drying your hands with a towel doesn't always get enough of the moisture off to not mess up the fingerprint sensor. RE: thinking of up grading phones
I would highly recommend not to upgrade now. You can still use the original gestures to access the Notifications and Control Center. Just touch the status bar, at the top of the screen, then swipe down with 3-fingers, to access the Notification area, or swipe up with 3-fingers to access the Control Center. Works like a charm, as it always has on all older iPhones. - Brad - On Mar 10, 2021, at 22:06, Tom Lange wrote: Hi, I recently upgraded to an iPhone 12 Pro and I can say that getting used to the absence of a Home button isn’t a big deal, although I do sometimes have trouble swiping down from the top of the screen to get into Control Center or Notifications. Also, in the Facebook app or any place where I can’t find the Back button, I’ve set it up so that a two-finger quadruple tap works like the scrub gesture, which has always been problematic for me. It sure is annoying for a lot of blind users but double tapping on newsfeed if we’re scrolling in our newsfeeds, brings us back to the list of postings and same applies for the notifications. > On Mar 10, 2021, at 11:06 PM, Tom Lange wrote: > > Hi, > I recently upgraded to an iPhone 12 Pro and I can say that getting used to > the absence of a Home button isn’t a big deal, although I do sometimes have > trouble swiping down from the top of the screen to get into Control Center or > Notifications. Re: thinking of up grading phones
Hi, I recently upgraded to an iPhone 12 Pro and I can say that getting used to the absence of a Home button isn’t a big deal, although I do sometimes have trouble swiping down from the top of the screen to get into Control Center or Notifications. So, to get around that difficulty I set up Back Tap so that a single-finger double-tap gets me into Control Center and a single-finger triple tap gets me into Notifications. Works great. Also, in the Facebook app or any place where I can’t find the Back button, I’ve set it up so that a two-finger quadruple tap works like the scrub gesture, which has always been problematic for me. As a side note, I do like Face ID. Hi, It really depends on the person, But generally no, I’d personally suggest going to your local retailer and have a look / play with an iPhone with no home button, But generally it’s pretty easy, However, I do find myself tapping the screen on my se to unlock it, when I need to press the home button to wake it up. RE: thinking of up grading phones
There is not that much of a learning curve in my opinion to go from Home Button to no Home Button, and I am in my 80's, never looked back, even put in my own facial ID on a sunny day. The guy at Wal-Mart could not get it to do it, but I had no problem with that either. The other day, my husband asked me about how to do something on his tablet, and I had to stop and think how to do it using a Home Button. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Ken Sent: Wednesday, March 10, 2021 4:00 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: thinking of up grading phones Hi, I am still using an iphone 8, is there much of a learning curve, too using a phone without the home key? I know many, such as Jonathan Mosen, who prefer the Plus-size iPhones, because the larger phone provides more room for braille screen input. - Brad - On Mar 10, 2021, at 08:21, Christopher Chaltain wrote: I still have an iPhone 7 from the office, and my wife has an iPhone 7, but I don’t have any problem going back and forth between the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 11, except that I sometimes find myself sliding up from the bottom of the iPhone 7 instead of hitting the home button! No reason to wait. Face ID is seamless and superior to touch ID. You won't regret making the upgrade. Don't waste your time or money on the iPhone 11, 5G is the future. - Brad - On Mar 10, 2021, at 06:18, Richard Turner wrote: The people I have worked with had the biggest learning curve with the Face ID since there is no touch ID. Rumor has it that it may contain both touch ID and Face ID. But, if you really need to upgrade sooner, you will probably find good deals on the 11. Re: thinking of up grading phones
The nice thing is, you don't have to use face ID if you don't want to. I remember a while ago, I talked to someone at apple accessibility. They were very helpful, and told me, that if you didn't want to use face ID, you could use your pass-code instead. If the iPhone 13 doesn't have a touch ID option, that's what I'm going to do. I'm glad if I don't want to use faceID I don't have to. I do like touch ID a lot, though, because if I want to purchase an app, all I have to do, is just put my thumb on the home button. My phone makes a little ding, and I've purchased my app. Its very easy. RE: thinking of up grading phones
No there isn’t. I went from an iPhone 7 and a Galaxy S7, both of which have home buttons, to a iPhone 11, which doesn’t have a home button, and it didn’t take long at all to pick up. You just swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to the home page or bring up the app switcher. You also use the other physical buttons to do things like toggle voiceOver on and off or reset the phone. -- Christopher (AKA CJ) Chaltain at Outlook From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Ken Sent: Wednesday, March 10, 2021 3:00 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: thinking of up grading phones Hi, I am still using an iphone 8, is there much of a learning curve, too using a phone without the home key?
