Re: OT Virus?

2004-11-19 Thread ben . blackmore
John,

There was no other message with the delivery report, just what I posted,
which is a little annoying. And no attachment or information on the
attachment, by the looks of it whatever automated system rejects the
messages does so just because its an .exe file, not necessarily because
there is a virus.

I have to say I'm 99% sure its from this list, as I'm not on any other
lists, and only ever sign up to stuff with a fake hotmail account. And I
don't think someone within the company who sent the delivery report has my
address as they are a US based company, we're UK, and we don't deal with
anyone US based. Also I've been contacted by a few people since posting the
original topic that have agreed they think its the list, as they have
received similar emails before.

Incidentally, since posting that message to the list the emails have
stopped, I was receiving about 2 a day, so hopefully someone took notice
and cleaned their system.

Hi Again,

Check that the system keyboard layout does not differ from the one you are
setting when trying to log in to the system - if they differ for some
reason then the VNC Server will translate incoming keys to local key
events using the system-wide mapping and the logon app will then
retranslate them to the wrong thing, in this case screwing up the # key
(Hash, not UK pound, which is # :) )

This was indeed the problem.

I think for some reason Windows had changed back to using all US keymaps and
language settings, so obviously the keymaps between the VNC client and
viewer were different.

At first when I changed the server keymap I was convinced that the problem
hadn't gone away - but I realised I had actually set the password with the
US keymap, so the password wasn't what I was typing!

Its working now anyway, thanks for the help.

RE: VNC Viewer : Error unable to connect to hotst: Connection refused (10061)

2004-11-19 Thread James Weatherall
Ron,

10061 means that the server computer was contactable, but not accepting
connections on the port you were trying to connect to. This might be
because VNC Server 4 was not running, or because it couldn't open the
required port.

Given that you are running 3.3.3R3 alongside 4, I'd guess that you started 4
after you started 3.3.3R3 and that you haven't told 4 to run on a different
port number yet - in that case it will try to open the same port as 3.3.3R3,
fail, and not try to re-open that port until it is restarted or a setting is
changed.

Regards,

Wez @ RealVNC Ltd.

I get this error when I attempt to connect from my laptop to
the VNCserver 4.0 that I installed on my home PC. I can
 connect if I use
v.3.3.3 R3 that is also installed on this laptop. I was able
to connect once from this laptop using 4.0 (Monday night
11/15) and my bro-in-law has no problem with 4.0 from his
PCs, however, something about my install here is off.

 All advice cheerfully accepted.

VNC thru VPN

2004-11-19 Thread Romel Ornedo
Need some clarifications regarding VPN.

Scenario:

Assuming I am the one of the administrator of the local area network in our
office. We have VPN setup in our office to make users connect to the internal
network remotely when they are out of the office. With the VPN connection they
can all access network resources in my office LAN remotely (shared files,
printers, all resources which they are permitted using their access/permission
rights, etc).

My Question:

When they are connected to the VPN, assuming I'm the Administrator of the LAN,
is it possible to use the REMOTE COMPUTER resources connected to our VPN? It's
like when the remote computer is connected and being virtually present inside
the LAN then it should be possible also for me (INSIDE the LAN) to see his
computer and use the shared files in his computer.

The reason I ask this question is I want to remotely control the roaming
computers when they are connected to the VPN. Since they already established a
remote connection I should be able to initiate a connection also in reverse.
But what will be his IP address or the VPN identification is using during the
communication to address the request from-and-to the remote sites. Is this
possible to use VNC under our VPN to remote computers even if they are under a
broadband connection or inside a firewalled lan? What are the things to put in
considerations? What could be possible problems I will encounter for
unsuccessful connection?

This is a shot in the dark, im not that techie specifically regarding VPN.

Thanks in advanced.

Dell True Mobile 1300 Router

2004-11-19 Thread Rick Johnston
Hello,

I have the Dell 1300 True Mobile wireless router connected to my host
machine. In the past when I have tried to run remote connection
software (VNC), the router blocked the connection. I have tried many
different settings on the router to try to allow the connection
software to get through but to no avail.

Do you have any suggestions as to how to make a connection with this
router?

HP/UX 11 - xserver dies on logout

I installed VNC 4 on a new HP/UX 11 server. I can start a session then it
dies after logout. I have not seen this happen on my Sun boxes or a previous
HP/UX box that was running VNC 3.3.6.

I configured to run Xvnc via an XDMCP dtlogin session. The following line is
I the /etc/dt/config/Xservers file (all one line in file):

send alt-ctrl-delete to a remote host doesn't work after rebooting remote host

2004-11-19 Thread Crystalla Pringle
Good evening All,

I have a local Windows XP host and a remote Windows 2000 host. I
have VNC installed on both. An Alt-Ctrl-Delete is required to log
back on to the remote host. I am having trouble sending alt-ctrl-delete
to the remote Windows 2000 host after rebooting that host. I have
already tried using the Send Alt-Ctrl-Delete option available from the
VNC icon in the top left hand window. It isn't working in this case,
but appears to be working in other cases. Can anyone help? Thanks in
advance for any help.

Warm Regards,
