VNCViewer timing out on new machine, same connection
I've been pulling my hair out over this for a couple of weeks, maybe the list can be some help. We switched over to laptops with a docking station from desktop systems at work. I could use VNCViewer from my desktop just fine, but I can't get a connection on the laptop. I am using the same physical wire to connect, and am logging on to the same domain with the same user name. The software installed on both machines is similar but the laptop has some VPN software (Contivity) installed that I don't use and isn't running under ordinary circumstances. I can also attempt to connect from a browser, and the applet loads and runs fine. When asked to connect, it times out. I have spoken to one of the network admins and he says that they don't block anything, they just prevent some web sites from being accessed, and that there is no reason why it shouldn't work, and assured me I wasn't trying to circumvent some security measure. I also can't connect to any FTP servers from the laptop. In testing, I set up a quickie web server on my home machine and was able to get to it just fine, so it looks like something is doing some selective filtering. Windows firewall is using domain controls, but not blocking anything, and the configuration looks the same as the desktop (which works). I've started running out of options, are there any suggestions to help me diagnose this problem more fully and determine exactly where/what is blocking VNC? For a limited time I'll have both systems available so I could do some comparisons if I only knew what to look for. You've got to be digging it while it's happening 'cause it just might be a one shot deal. -- F. Re: VNCViewer timing out on new machine, same connection
Chris What OS are you running on your Laptop? If it is Vista, it may be the Firewall. If it is Vista, try disabling the firewall see if you can connect. If yes, then turn the Firewall back on, make sure that Windows Remote Administration and Remote Administration are selected as allowed exceptions and try again. Connection Timing Out
I'm currently running a small home network behind an ADSL router with WiFi (WEP enabled) serving two laptops, both with XPHome. Having used VNC successfully before I downloaded the latest free version and installed on both laptops. I could not get a successful connection, I checked the various configuration settings and all appeared OK. I was a little unsure of the 'access' settings trying various local addresses but settling for 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0 but still no luck. Strangely I installed TightVNC and it worked first time. I would prefer to use RealVNC as the 'access' settings appear to offer a wee bit extra security. Having said that it is only intended to be used on a local network or via a VPN connection. I have disabled 'fast user switching' on XP as I read somewhere this is a common problem. Any pointers would be appreciated. Re: Connection Timing Out
What is the error message you are recieving when trying to connect? Additionally check the event viewer on both machines for error messages from vnc. Timing Out
I have VNC installed on a laptop with XP Home OS. If I stop using VNC for 2 minutes it times out and it is getting worse. Now it times out at under 60 seconds. How can I keep VNC from timing out on me Thanks! ___ VNC-List mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] To remove yourself from the list visit: http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list
