CommPost: Bluetooth intro $254 camera
$529 40GB FireStar portable 2.5 drive - The price differential between 3.5 and 2.5 is now its lowest ever. The 40GB FireStar is now only around $100 more than a 3.5 FireCube drive. I use one of these myself, having diced my external 3.5 drive. FireStar drives give you portability (they fit in a shirtpocket and require no mains power, cables or power supply), look great (the very cool see-through clear case with the dual intensity blue LED) and you can boot a computer from this drive. That means apart from holding your own backup files, you can run demos or repair another computer simply by plugging the FireStar into the FireWire port (it will power up and mount automatically), selecting it as the startup drive and restarting. I use it to maintain other computers and update software and you don't need to climb under a table to find a power point! Buy this for the new special price of $529 at - http://www.zytech.com.au/firewire/drives/firestar/firestar.html $254 1.3 megapixel digital camera - These are in stock now and are new from BenQ (which is the new name for Acer Multimedia) - order by return mail iBook laptop - We have just upgraded one of our iBooks so we have a white iBook 600/128/15G/DVD for sale. This machine is still under Apple warranty, complete with original manuals, software, etc - price is $2500 ONO - reply by email if you want this . first in, one only! *** BLUETOOTH PHONE SPECIALS *** To celebrate our introduction of Sony Ericsson phones and a swathe of new Bluetooth devices (hopefully all on the website next week) we are offering a Sony Ericsson T68 Bluetooth phone with CommuniCam camera for $899 - that's $565 (or 38.5%) below RRP. We also have VERY limited stocks of the SE Bluetooth T39 phone for $579. Order by return email. $20 OFF Droid FireWire/USB combo hub - We're overstocked on these so we are going to reduce stock by selling them below cost at $79. The droid hub gives you 3 x FireWire outlets and 4 x USB outlets. As this is a powered hub you can plug in any FireWire or USB peripheral. Buy online at - http://www.zytech.com.au/usb/hubs/combohub.html $499 600dpi duplexing laser printer - Panasonic KX-P7100 BW Laser Printer with auto duplex (prints both sides), 14ppm, 600x600 dpi, parralel or USB interface, 2MB RAM, 250 sheet media tray + manual feed, drivers for Windows 95/98/Me/2000/NT 4.0/XP, 12 months return to base warranty, 254mm H, 399mm W, 390mm D, 10kg - while stocks last at $499 ... return email if you want one of these. Re: 10.2 oddity
Yes I've actually got a mirroe of my account having first selected the 10.2 upgrade option and then later having to do a full reinstall. I'm not having any problems with anything quitting but I don't like having a mirrored User account either. I've exhausted all ideas so far on trying to get rid of this. You might be able to use Net Info Manager to clean it up, but a) take a backup first and b) don't do anything if you're not sure about what you're doing :) Have fun, Shay -- === Shay Telfer Perth, Western Australia Technomancer It must be bunnies! Archiving MAIL
I currently use Apple's MAIL under OS 10.1.5. Is there any way of archiving old emails received by MAIL. I used to use Outlook Express Archive when I had Outlook Express as my email program under OS 9.1. HP PSC750 all in one
Hi, I am thinking about buying the HP PSC750 all in one scanner, printer and copier and would like some advice. Has anyone used one of these gadgets and have an opinion on it? Does it work well with OSX? Any advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Re: Archiving MAIL
You can go to any Mailbox (including the trash or sent mail) and select all and then Save As (text file). Does it work well with OSX? Any advice appreciated. Thanks in advance. Given the state of HP's driver support under OS X at the moment, I'd wait until they release the next set of drivers and check that they actually do the job before spending any money. (I noticed at the roadshow the third party vendors displaying HP hardware were showing off the hardware but didn't have any of it plugged into a Mac!) I also second the idea that if your combined fax/copier/printer/scanner breaks, you'll possibly find yourself without a fax, copier, printer and scanner! If you have to get one, a fax machine is relatively cheap these days. Have fun, Shay -- === Shay Telfer Perth, Western Australia Technomancer It must be bunnies! Um, if res edit can't see it then it aint there. On the subject though, there is a little utility called invisifile which I find useful. Try version tracker for it. WinDoze95 - wanted (floppies!)
I know this is probably not the place (!) but I have a lighting system which will not listen to my g4 iMac running Virtual PC no matter how many adaptors I hang off it. It apparently needs genuine rs232 to function. I have a little old 486 laptop which will run it but needs win95 to do it (currently 3.1) but no CD drive. Only communications: parallel, serial, PC-slot with a floppy. so does anyone have a copy of Win95 on floppies that they don't have a use for? thanks, - David
Mac OS X on PCs (well, sort of!)
Hi All! Here is an interesting link: http://maconlinux.net/news.html It would be interesting to see what the performance hit is like, if someone out there has a decent Linux box and OS X. Seeya Rod!
Microsoft HyperTerminal
Hi all, the IP address was accidently changed on my D-Link DSL-504 ADSL Router, I can't change it back via the web based management module. I have to alter it by using the console. the Manual is aimed at Windows users - and suggests I use a terminal emulation interface such as Microsoft HyperTerminal. However obviously I can't use that - so does anyone else know of a terminal emulation interface for Mac Os X.1.5 or OS 9 (if I have to.) Cheers James [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Re: Microsoft HyperTerminal
Sorry all forgot to mention that you connect the 'console' of the DLS-504 by a com port on a PC or I suppose by a serial port - usb adapter on a Mac. which leads me to my next question: can I use the Terminal app in OS X? Also here is a bit of the manual where it explains the connecting up. --- If you choose to change the IP address of the Router you will need to access the device directly via the RS-232 connection using a terminal emulation interface (such as Microsoft HyperTerminal used in the sample screen captures). Your terminal parameters will need to be set to: VT-100/ANSI compatible Terminal keys enabled 9,600 baud 8 data bits No parity One stop bit Cheers James Hi all, the IP address was accidently changed on my D-Link DSL-504 ADSL Router, I can't change it back via the web based management module. Re: Microsoft HyperTerminal
I've traditionally used ZTerm for such things and versiontracker shows there is an OSX beta out there. ZTerm allows you to set the serial comms parameters. woz On Monday, September 9, 2002, at 10:20 PM, James Anderson wrote: Sorry all forgot to mention that you connect the 'console' of the DLS-504 by a com port on a PC or I suppose by a serial port - usb adapter on a Mac. which leads me to my next question: can I use the Terminal app in OS X?
