I know it's bad form to reply to myself but need to clarify that I was
talking about Westpac. I'm can't be sure if the problems with BankWest are
the same as the Westpac problems since I'm not a BankWest customer.

The most common problem affects business users of the site. Business users
have the ability under the Pay Anyone feature to set repeating payments.
Under Safari that feature doesn't work. Personal account holders using the
Pay Anyone feature don't have any problems since the Personal Accounts Pay
Anyone section doesn't allow for repeating payments.

This is different to the Other Accounts feature which is incompatible with
all Mac browsers to this point.

I regularly use the pay anyone feature and have had no trouble to date

Yes, Safari on some pages seems to fail to recognise button clicks on

it views the pages just fine).

UWA webct page says "Version 3.8 Campus Edition"
Curtin's webct page, whilst it looks different, also proclaims itself
to

be version 3.8

In summary: This wasn't terribly helpful, was it? I have no idea what's

A BBC story talks about the implications of hidden data in MS Office
documents:

Analysis of hidden information in the so-called Iraq "dodgy dossier"
showed,
among other things, the names of the four civil servants who worked on
it.

Downing Street press office head Alastair Campbell had to explain who
these
people were to the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Select Committee
investigating the genesis of the plagiarised document.

"The time when most information tends to leak is when you are using
a document that has a number of revisions or a number of people
working on it," says Nick Spenceley, founder director of computer
forensics firm Inforenz.

The UK government has now largely abandoned
Microsoft Word
for documents that become public and has turned to documents
created using Adobe Acrobat which uses the Portable Data Format (PDF).

It looks like only a matter of days before Apple releases their
Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. We've previously tested the Microsoft
keyboard and mouse but found both to be terribly frustrating -
hopefully Apple will do a better job! Very often we'd need to reseat
the battery in both the mouse or keyboard otherwise nothing worked -
this is not what you want from either a keyboard or mouse. We are
importing both Bluetooth keyboards and mouse on trial directly from
Taiwan so if these are reliable and solid products, that we can price
well below the Apple or Microsoft product, we will be releasing both of
these in the near future stay tuned.

Bluetooth modules are now capable of a range of 100m but these
particular modules are still quite expensive so we are sticking with
the 40m range modules for the present - just a reminder these are in

There's been a lot of talk just recently on several of the lists with
people having drive and speed issues on their various machines. If you
are using a Mac .. please, PLEASE go out and get a copy of
DiskWarrior 3. You don't have to buy it from us, but please use grab a
copy and run it regularly every week if you can.

We wouldn't see 90% of the problems people post if you use this piece
of software in combination with other good maintenance practices. On a
regular basis run one of the several utilities that execute cron tasks
in OS X. We use MacJanitor but there are a number about and you can
just do a search on VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

Next go to Apple Disk Utility and select the FirstAid tab and click on
repair permissions. If you really want to get finicky you can also run
software like System Optimiser which updates all the Unix prebindings,
cleans out cache files and other tasks but this is only an optional
extra - again go to VersionTracker, etc as there are several utilities
that perform these tasks.

Then after you have performed these 2 or 3 maintenance routines, reboot
either from your DiskWarrior CD-ROM or another drive/volume with
DiskWarrior 3 installed and run DiskWarrior over your boot volume.
First of all you'll be amazed (and horrified) at how many minor (or
even major) errors it will find on your drive and when you reboot
you'll be amazed (and happy) at just how fast your System loads and
continue to be happy when you don't need to post to your favourite

DiskWarrior is truly a brilliant piece of software that will keep both

HI,

As for OSX and these cards, I am running OSX 10.1.5 and it does fine, but
really was a pain to get running. It's not so much the card that is the
problem, it's the older machines and OSX requirements. My recommendation
would be to anyone wanting to go down this path is to stick with OS 9x. Then
your machine will fly, you'll still have your finger nails and sanity, and
like Bob says, you can save more for a newer machine that will run OSX
without a problem.

St George latest fake site target

AUGUST 21, 2003 ST GEORGE Bank said police were investigating a hoax
website that asked the bank's customers to submit confidential
information over the internet.

The website, which St George said was run by "fraudulent operators", was
the latest in a string of fake sites to imitate the actual websites of
big Australian banks.

"From this morning, both customers and non-customers of St George began
reporting they had received emails asking them to enter their internet
banking details and passwords as the bank was updating its security
systems," St George said.

"The emails did not originate from St George. The fake website was
quickly shut down and Federal Police are investigating."

St George, based in NSW and Australia's fifth biggest bank by market
value, said it posted a warning about phoney websites earlier this year
when other banks were targeted.

The bank said customers should delete any emails that appeared to be
from St George and asked for personal information.

Customers who believed their details may have been compromised should
immediately change their internet banking password, the bank said.

Re Ibook battery

2003-08-25 Thread Bob Howells

My daughterÂ’s iBook, a white 500mhz dual USB model, the first of the
white iBooks, running OSX 10.2.6, will not operate without the AC
charger plugged in. When the computer is restarted with the AC charger
plugged in, time setting is retained. If the AC charger is accidentally
unplugged, the computer immediately shuts off and when restarted the
time setting is back to 1904 or something like that.

Tried zapping PRAM, resetting Power Manager, taking battery out and
making sure it has clean terminals, ran Disk Warrior 3 and Norton
Utilities 6.

Is there anything else I can try, or is it definitely in need of a new
battery?

Bud

There are 2 things here:

The fact that the time does not hold suggests that the PRAM internal
battery
needs replacing. According to my copy of Mactracker it should be a
Lithium ion.
Two years is not an unusual life time for these.

Then there is the external battery that normally powers the iBook when
the
mains are disconnected.

The following may help

Bob

I have recently had battery problems on my ibook 500 - it seemed the
battery
was slowly dying - I looked around for a software based solution but
discovered it was hardware related (apprently a problem with all li-ion
batteries). The only solution was a new one - RRP is $275!

Then I discovered the delights of battery repacking - I sent my battery
off
to Qld, and 5 days later it was back, fully repacked and with 3.5hrs of
life
(compared with about 2.5 when it was new!). The cost was $165! ..and
it
has a 12 month warranty - the same as a new battery.

A tried a stack of different re-packers - but found only one who would
do an
apple battery and give 12 months warranty. Their service is excellent
and I
highly recommend them:

iBook Battery

2003-08-25 Thread Bud
My daughter’s iBook, a white 500mhz dual USB model, the first of the
white iBooks, running OSX 10.2.6, will not operate without the AC
charger plugged in. When the computer is restarted with the AC charger
plugged in, time setting is retained. If the AC charger is
accidentally unplugged, the computer immediately shuts off and when
restarted the time setting is back to 1904 or something like that.

Tried zapping PRAM, resetting Power Manager, taking battery out and
making sure it has clean terminals, ran Disk Warrior 3 and Norton
Utilities 6.

Is there anything else I can try, or is it definitely in need of a new
battery?
