CD burn errors?
When I do backups on my external CD recorder from my OS9 iMac I sometimes get messages like Sense key - medium error and Sense Code + 0x73, 0x3 or Sense Code 0x72, 0x01 Then usually the message that the burn failed. I'm wondering if this is due to the disk? I've been using Imation CDRs. Some worked okay today, but I also wasted another run of half a dozen from the same batch. I then tried an old Kodak Gold CDR I've been saving aside for years there was no problem completing the burn. I guess the question is, are silver Imation disks sometimes prone to throwing up these faults? Kind regards, Paul. -- Dr Paul R. What is intriguing is that at the end of the day, the costs of operating a mobile phone worked out to be similar here and there - again that was the case 5 years ago. I believe that's because in the US, mobile phone numbers are no different to regular land line numbers. This means the caller doesn't know what they are calling. Whereas in Australia, all mobile numbers are clearly designated as such. - Matt -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: iPhone Terms Conditions
We used to pay to make and receive mobile calls a few years ago but with the arrival of competition, that has changed. If we make a mobile call to another mobile phone using the same provider, there is no charge to the receiver. However if we make a mobile call to another mobile on the competitors system, we all pay. At the moment though, the mobile companies are vying to get service contracts with the ex-pat pilot group and are willing to offer all sorts of incentives including no charge to the receiver no matter which company they are with.I have noticed our SMS is much cheaper than in Oz. Brother HL2040
I wonder if any one can help? I have just bought an HL 2040 Laser printer and trying to run it on both Classic and OS 10.3.9 via USB (attached directly to computer - a G3) I have managed to install a driver from CD for Classic and it works well. 10.3.9 is a non starter. I have tried to install from the CD and can get as far as a window in which the printer's name appears but has a ? over the icon. Same routine with downloaded CUPS installer from the Brother web site and get as far as the USB window wherein the driver name appears with a ? mark on it. No further progress is possible. Any help welcomed. bill -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Just because Apple bought the source code does not mean that it is no longer open source. What it does mean is that there is the potential for yet another source branch with the current code being developed open source and Apple also developing from the current code base as proprietary software. Safari is a prime example of this as they took a snapshot of Konqueror, made it close source and rewrote the parts they needed to to get it into the software we see today. Of course they still give some code back to the Konqueror developers, but how much is another question. Just because Apple bought the source code does not mean that it is no longer open source. There are two trains of thought on why Apple did this. 1. They weren't happy with the pace of development and decided to hire CUPS' main developer to add the features they want. or, the more likely 2. Apple (like many other businesses) is worried that GPLv3 will cause too many headaches so they bought the software and developer so they can control what license it gets released under. This opinion is reenforced by the face that they make a specific mention of GPLv2 as the forward looking license. What it does mean is that there is the potential for yet another source branch with the current code being developed open source and Apple also developing from the current code base as proprietary software. Not really... if Apple keeps it under the GPLv2, there is no driving reason to fork it. Of course they still give some code back to the Konqueror developers, but how much is another question. Not quite right. Apple took a snap-shot of KHTML (Konqueror is to KHTML as Safari is to WebKit) and developed it to their needs. They released that code back to KHTML. As it turned out, Apple did more work than the KHTML guys so Apple then started WebKit and released the source to that. At this time, WebKit is open source and is far more advanced than KHTML. http://webkit.org - Matt -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
