Re: Epson Stylus Photo TX700W MFP Wireless Printer
David I have scanned literally hundreds of old photos and slides using a HP Scanjet 3010. Not the fastest but I have been very pleased with the results. Where necessary I adjust using Adobe Elements 6 and print on an Epson R290. Barry On 25/10/2008, at 1:18 PM, David Wood wrote: Hi Ronni, Just enquiring as to the scanning quality with this new Epson. Re: Epson Stylus Photo TX700W MFP Wireless Printer
Hi David, I had almost 6000 slides that I wanted scanned. Paying someone to do it was prohibitive. Instead I bought an Epson V700 Photo about a year and half ago. http://www.epson.com.au/products/scanner/perfectionv700photo.asp I found it worked very well for me. Being able to scan 12 slides at one sweep was a tremendous time saver. The results were pretty good. It is more expensive than some, but there wasn't another one on the market at the time that would do the job. It is not wireless, and only scans. I have to set my mind to tackle endless prints now, so I cannot comment on how it works with prints. Re: Epson Stylus Photo TX700W MFP Wireless Printer
I have a heap of black and white Hassleblad (2 inch by 2 inch) negatives from photos my late brother took in the 70's I looked into a film scanner earlier this year when I wanted to get prints for my cousin's 50th birthday. Digilife were $2.00 each then, Camera House (Oxford St) $1.00 each - scan only Surprizingly Harvey Norman Malaga did them for me for 50 cents each, on CD and with prints. (which isn't easy with square negs) I was really happy with the quality. I have about 800 more that need scanning, and looked at the Epson V700 photo.. It was about $700 at the time. http://www.epson.com.au/products/scanner/perfectionv700photo.asp Have been waiting for them to go down a bit, as the reviews were great. I'm also thinking about giving Big W a try as they scan all that will fit on one CD for about $15. Even if they don't put in much effort at least they are scanned and it's easier to see the content (as I don't have a light box) There are emails on the Mac list for 7th Feb 2008 called 'Scanning negatives' Mark Secker sent me these links http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/scanner.htm http://kenrockwell.com/tech/scanrex.htm Jo On 25/10/2008, at 3:34 PM, Robert Howells wrote: On 25/10/2008, at 3:23 PM, Norman Leslie wrote: Hi David, I had almost 6000 slides that I wanted scanned. Hi David, I've just scanned an old photo of my late Dad, it was taken during the World War 11 1939-1945, he was in the RAAF. The original photo is fairly yellowed, it's approx 3x5 size. I've taken three scans of it, one was scanned at 300 dpi using Epson Scan.app v3.4.5 (comes with included software) using the Full Auto Mode, with Dust Removal Color Restoration ticked. Two was scanned at 600 dpi using Epson Scan.app 3.4.5 using Full Auto Mode, with Dust Removal Color Restoration ticked. Three was scanned at 300 dpi using Epson Scan.app v3.4.5 using Professional Mode, with Unsharp Mask-Medium, Descreening, Color Restoration Backlight correct all ticked. If you like I can email them privately to you. Email me off list if you want them sent please. Re: How to transfer MacBook user content to MacBook Pro ?
Hi David, Out of interest, do you know if this would work between G5 and G4 iMacs - I know intel to power PC isn't going to work, but what about different power PC versions? Reason I ask is my 800mHz G4 iMac is too slow to install Leopard directly, but I have Leopard on a G5 iMac... When I had a bit of spare time I planned on cloning to an old firewire drive and just seeing if the G4 booted from it - but it would be nice to know if anyone has already done this successfully! Re: Epson Stylus Photo TX700W MFP Wireless Printer
Scanning old BW negatives can be easily done without expensive scanners, I saw a demonstration of this a few years ago at a WAGS computer group meeting and the results were impressive. It consisted of a standard type scanner and software and a wooden box painted white inside with a light bulb fitted inside. The box can be made to the desired size but some investigation may be needed to determine the best light bulb to use. It worked a treat. Sync Problems - Duplicate Items in Entourage
Hi I 've got my iphone and MobileMe working fine EXCEPT: In the last few weeks, when I sync I get duplicate Calendar items in Entourage. ( the phone calendar and ical are ok) Has anyone else experienced this? Please do you know of a solution? Entourage is my preferred Calendar and Email application. I have had to turn off Entourage syncing. This means any items I enter in my Entourage calendar do not end up on Mobileme and my phone. At this point I am considering using iCal instead, but I prefer Entourage for it's choices of alarms and reminders and Event Categories etc. Thanks Rod Blitvich -- Rod Blitvich - Amy Sam¹s Dad . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0409 681 256 [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://web.mac.com/blitto A Life? That's right Robert, I lose an hour of daylight every morning because of this. I was reading where a large cattle station in our north never goes onto daylight saving. They don't change their clocks and they just continue their normal routine. At this point I am considering using iCal instead, but I prefer Entourage for it's choices of alarms and reminders and Event Categories etc. Thanks Rod Blitvich Hi Rod, Entourage has sync service issue problems, which has not been fixed. A lot of discussion about it and one 'Workaround' found here: http://www.officeformac.com/ProductForums/Entourage/6607/7 Begin Quote: Brian M. Criscuolo Lead Software Engineer Mark/Space, Inc. Workaround: I've written about this numerous times a long with others. Sync services in Entourage is quite buggy/flaky. If you have more than one module turned on for sync'g you'll encounter many weird behaviours . Just sync your most active module. In my case, I have only calendar turned on. Before doing any of the following make sure you back up the Entourage main identity, iCal, and Addressbook before doing any of the above. To correctly set everything right, turn off all modules in Ent. Go to iCal and delete the iCal calendar. Go to Ent, Preferences, sync services and turn on Calendar, choose combine, then OK. It will build a perfect new iCal calendar and you should notice everything sync'g right. Just leave your one most used module turned on. To update the other less used modules the following is what I do to ensure sync services with Entourage doesn't get messed up. This is the time consuming stuff. You want to update your addressbook and/or Notes by sync'g them. Go to Ent, turn off calendar then OK, delete the iCal Ent calendar, go to Ent and turn on Addressbook only, choose combine then OK and your addressbook will be in sync. If you also want to update Notes you can do this at this point by turning off Addressbook, OK, open sync services, turn on Notes, OK, choose combine. Back to Ent, turn off Addressbook or Notes (whichever is enabled), OK, then open sync services and turn on Calendar, combine, OK and it will just create a new iCal Calendar. Finally, if you're using a handheld after doing any of the above all three Missing Sync modules Events/Tasks, Notes and Contacts should be set to overwrite on first sync to ensure they are in perfect harmony. If you just sync you might get sync services errors which can be messy to sort out. Mighty Mouse alternative ?
I think I've reached the end of my tether with the Mighty Mouse scroll wheel problems. I recall seeing recommendations previously about Logitech mouses. Is there a particular model Logitech mouse that closely resembles the Mighty Mouse? Considerations include... * I use latest Mac OSX. * I think I prefer a wired mouse rather than wireless because I can't be bothered replacing batteries * I don't use Buttons 3 (pressing down the scroll ball) or Button 4 (squeezing the sides) at all, so if that functionality is missing from a particular Logitech mouse, I don't mind. Grateful for any recommendations or first-hand experiences. As always, it seems, people are either strongly for or strongly against - not too many don't cares. I find http://www.worldtimezone.com/ gives an interesting perspective on how different regions apply local time relative to the true geographic time Zones. And http://www.worldtimezone.com/time-australia12.php educated me, since I had no idea that Eucla had it's own WCT time zone! Have fun! Cheers Neil -- Neil R. We drove east for Christmas two years ago at the very time daylight saving started. Left Geraldton on Saturday, stayed overnight on Sunday at Mundaring, waking to clock forward an hour, left there Monday and spent the night at Norseman. The next day we wound the clock forward half an hour somewhere past Balladonia. At Border Village there are about 5 clocks showing the various time zones. Crossed the border into SA and then a bit later wound the clock forward another hour. The next day we drove from Clare to Mt Gambier then across the border into Vic to Portland. Wind the clock forward another half hour then. We were continually resetting the gps and the mobile phone times went crazy as it depended which transmitter was in range as to what times were shown. On the way home of course, all was reversed, and we almost could see the sun rising in the west as we drove towards it in the very long drive from Border Village to Balladonia. We stayed there the night even though the sun didn't set until nearly 9! Kangaroos don't do daylight saving and we wanted to camp the night 'in the desert'!
