OT: Skype Phones
Just wondering how many shops in Perth metro area sell Skype compatible USB phones and if there are any problems associated with these phones? The internet have conflicting results for some of the commonly known brands like Logitech and Netgear but don't depict what the real fault is with the device. Is it better to buy a no-name brand these days? -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:wamug-unsubscr...@wamug.org.au

Re: Memory Help
Hi Nichole, I upgraded my 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac (also purchased Nov/Dec 2007) from 1GB to 4GB - it was a really easy upgrade. I'm down in Albany and used OWC - although they are in the US they ship worldwide and delivered very promptly. However, whether you want to use them or not, their website is very good for checking on memory compatibility etc. Their iMac page is http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac with further details when you click on the link for your particular model, eg for the core 2 Duo range: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac/Intel_Core_2_Duo On thing I found very useful was their installation video: http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/imac_mid_2007_mem/ Which re-assured me when I found that you have to be quite firm when seating/unseating the RAM. You may want to buy locally - if so I am sure Daniel Kerr will not only give you a good deal, he will be able to answer any queries regarding models/RAM/installation. HTH Cheers Neil -- Neil R. Hi John, I'll put my reply back on list in case anyone else experiences your problem. Am I correct in understanding that in your Address Book Application Preferences that the Toolbar (Menu) at the top of the Preferences Window does not show? You do not see the toolbar at the top with General, Template,Phone etc icons? If this is the case try: Quit Address Book.app Move ~/Library/ Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist to another location (desktop) and then restart Address Book.app. If that fixes your problem you can then trash the plist file on your desktop. Hi John, This is strange, I haven't heard of this happening. Have you tried the Quit Address Book App moving the ~/Library/ Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist to the desktop. Re: address book
Hi John, Ok, if you are not having any other problems in Leopard, you could just reinstall the Address Book Application. You will lose all the names you have in Address Book unless you want to Export All your cards out as vcards then Import them in when you have the new Address Book installed. You need your Leopard Installation Disc. 1. Delete Address Book Application from the Applications folder. 2. Insert your Leopard Installation disk into the computer. 3. The disk will appear on your desktop. 4. Double click on the Optional Installs folder. 5. Double click on the Optional Installs.mpkg. 6. Click on (Continue) in Introduction. 7. Click on (Continue) in Software License Agreement. 8. Click on (Agree) to agree to the terms of the software license agreement. 9. Click on the disclosure arrow ▶ next to Applications. 10.. Select (✓) Address Book 11. Click (Continue). 12.. After Address Book has been reinstalled, download and run the 10.5.7 Combo Update http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_7_Combo_Update to bring your system back up to date. Let's know how you get on please. Cheers, Ronni On 26/05/2009, at 12:44 PM, John Daniels wrote: Hi again Ronni This is the only problem. Hi wamuggers I dont seem to be receiving many emails from the group and are not sure why. I have had dramas with my isp, oceanbroadband down here in busso over the last month or so. I have a quick question regarding the small usb harddrives. I looked at a couple of 500gb drives at hardly's this morning and neither of them mentioned being compatable with Mac OS. The seagate in particular had no info at all. Will that be a problem at all, or should I just plug it in and use it? I thought I might have to format in OS X? kind regards to all chris -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:wamug-unsubscr...@wamug.org.au
Re: IP address
Hi Paul, I'm no network guru, so this is just my thoughts rather than real knowledge! I think an online check would probably come up with the IP address of your internet router. The IP addresses for each computer may or may not change depending on how your network is set-up. If you go to the network pane in system preferences and then go to Ethernet you will see that there are options for Configure - Mine is set to using DHCP which means that it's IP address is allocated by the router. In this case the IP address of the computer may indeed change over time, depending what available address is allocated by the router. Another option is manually where you set the IP address - making sure, of course, you give a different valid address to each computer - in this case the computer IP address will remain the same until you change it. As I understand it though, these addresses would only be visible on your LAN (local area network, ie all the computers talking to the router) the internet is part of the WAN (wide area network). With a typical setup your router is the bridge between your LAN and the WAN. The network pane in system preferences will also tell you the current IP address of the computer. On 26/05/2009, at 12:28 PM, Paul Weaver wrote: I was under the impression that every computer can be identified by a unique IP address which doesn't change. You have one line to your isp and it has just the one IP address . So the online checker shows that address . Your ethernet home network will have a router which will allocate individual Ip addresses to the individual Mac's . You should be able to see the address of that mac by going to System Preferences - Network and look at the built in Ethernet details Typically depending on your brand of router you would expect to see something like 192.168.1.x Some browsers use 192.168.0.x The x part of the address will be different for each Mac . With an ethernet connection the x part of the address mostly stays the same Bob If this is the case how can I check the individual iMacs on our house ethernet system. They all pop up the same IP number when I use an online checker. Re: Mail message won't go away
Hi Graham, Can you highlight the email, then click on Edit and choose Cut. Does it go away then? Re: emails
Hi Chris, I have several small USB drives, and a larger one. I never bother with formatting them, just plug them in and start using them. You can, as Ronni said, reformat them, but as far as I know, they are all Mac compatible, whether they say so or not. Susan. Re: Mail message won't go away
Hi Graham I had something similar using Entourage. I tried everything but nothing worked to delete the message, which kept showing up as an 'unread message'. I finally had to take the computer to my local tech shop where they reloaded Entourage and updated it. Has worked fine ever since. It seems there is a glitch in the system which occasionally rears its head. Re-loading is the only answer.
