Re: Broadband on overhead cables ? ? ?

2009-07-06 Thread Adam Hewitt

I suspect that what's missing from this article is that they don't
want to dig to lay the cable under ground. So if you already have
underground power then it will go with that. If not then it will go on
the poles.

Just bear in mind that article is written by Nick Minchin, a Liberal
senator, so perhaps we should read his outrage with a bit of a pinch
of salt considering potential political bias and seek some
clarification from other sources before we get too hot under the
collar ourselves!

http://www.watoday.com.au/technology/technology-news/look-up-in-the-sky-theres-an-ugly-downside-to-labors-broadband-project-20090705-d93w.html

That said, I do absolutely hate overhead lines but have to admit to
being more aghast that in this day and age all those powerlines strung
down our streets are actually bare wires without any sort of
insulation making them far more dangerous and prone to damage and
outages than nicely shielded broadband cables. How many power
blackouts (and lives) would we save if more of them were underground I
wonder.

Lol,..too funny. Always changing things to suit themselves.

You have to wonder as well, what sort of security that would have.
Surely it

2009-07-06 Thread Daniel Kerr

Hi Nichole

If you're looking at converting VHS the major difference with the eyeTV 250,
is that it handles the conversion a lot better. Basically the "brain" in it,
doesn't require as much "grunt" from the computer so it can chew through
more a lot faster.

You can read more about it here:-

I've sold a few of them to clients and they work very well. Great little
units.

Hope that helps.

Try disconnecting the power to the router or switching it off for

Using one or more of these methods gets me re-connected, but it's a

It's critical specs are:

Thanks Bob and Phillippe
You were both right. My printer's dialogue box had plain paper greyed out.
I uninstalled both the printer and the scan drivers (one at a time

All printer features returned in the dialogue box and I was able to
bin the extra IJEPQAgent.app which had somehow got into my bin.

Many thanks.

Please have a look if (how much of) this path exists on your system then.

/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter/EPW/IJEPWAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/IJEPWAgent

Maybe the driver isn't installed properly. Did you have to install a
custom driver with your printer,

or did you use the one shipped with OS X as standard ?

Re: Roxio easy VHS to DVD

2009-07-06 Thread Ray Forma

Nichole,

I bought the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid to copy VHS to DVD. I also use the
Hybrid to watch digital free-to-air TV through an old Mac mini.
Wonderful picture on my 24" Samsung monitor, especially if it's a HD
program. Why buy an analog to DVD device, and a separate HD TV
receiver, when for a similar price you get both, as well as a DV
recorder, a DVD burner, and video editing software?

If you live near Fremantle then come over and have a look.

Hi folks,

Thought I might ask the list if anyone has purchased and used the
Roxio easy VHS to DVD capture USB device.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Nichole Shervington

Anyone hire out 24" Al iMacs?

2009-07-06 Thread Martin Hill

Does anyone have any good things to say about computer rental
operations in Perth that might hire out 24" Aluminium iMacs for short
term events (eg. couple of days at a time up to a week or so).

We have various PR events here at Curtin Uni for which departments are
keen to use 24" iMacs as display screens. (much more swish than the
handful of 24" Dell monitors we have previously had for such events).

We've previously used iMacs out of various computer labs on campus,
but are investigating the short-term rental option instead. We may
just purchase a number of iMacs to be reserved for such a purpose
eventually.

I notice these companies do Mac rentals:

MacRent.com.au
abacusrentit.com.au

Not sure if these ones do Macs:
hire-intelligence.com.au
www.infinithire.com.au

Thanks for any feedback or info about other options.

-Mart

I am still reviewing that piece of equipment and what it actually does .

Does it actually convert from analogue TV to digital TV , or must you
get your Mac to do that

You may like to review the Elgato unit on this link,
which actually incorporates the analogue to Digital conversion instead
of using the Mac

Bob

OK , so now I have found what is required .

The system requirements are listed as Dual Processor PPC Mac , or
intel Mac .

I am pretty sure the Mac is required to process the analogue TV signal
to make
a digital file with Video as Mpeg-2 format and the Audio as Mpeg-1
format .

A Dvd will burn quickly once the file is in that format .

If it is not in that format , but the Audio is in Dolby sound , Roxio
needs to encode the whole signal

before the burn .

I could be wrong ?

$1,499 is all I'm asking for it.

It's in near new condition and will be sold with its original
packaging, cables, manuals and disks.

It's critical specs are:

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT Graphics Card with 256MB
200GB Hard drive
Superdrive

If you are interested, please drop me an email.

Thanks

Kevin,
Have a look at the Kid's Time CD that was compiled as the January 2009
Disc of the Month title. There are a ton of educational packages on
there... and you should get some leads from there
