Thanks for your comments, James. I realise the root of my question is why DVD Player always sees my 576i disks as 4:3 when they are 16:9 in origin. Glad you survived Christmas! Converting a UDF format DVD
Quite a few years ago I had a Perth firm put some super8 movies on DVD. When I get info about the disk which is labeled DVD_VIDEO_RECORDER I am told it is in UDF format. try MacTheRipper v266 it makes a folder from the dvd, then with mpeg streamclip you can the convert to dv - mp4- other formats for your editing you can try with mpeg stream clip directly to open a dvd then choose the range you want to convert/export i cracked a number of dvds in that way James On 28/12/2010, at 5:50, KEVIN Lock wrote: Quite a few years ago I had a Perth firm put some super8 movies on DVD. Re: Converting a UDF format DVD
Hi Kevin, If you have Quicktime Pro you can use it to convert unprotected DVD clips into a format iMovie can use. I have used Toast Titanium 10 numerous times to Extract Video clips from unprotected DVDs and then edit in iMovie. If you have Toast Titanium 10 you can Extract Video Clips from DVD, Convert Export I've copied just the typing from a Tutorial I have which includes screenshots showing you how to: Kevin, if you wish I could email you 'offlist' the complete instructions including the screenshots. How to Extract Video Clips from DVDs with Toast 10 1. Bring in Your DVD Open Toast and click on the Convert tab, then select the Video Files project type. Add a non-encrypted DVD disc or DVD-Video folder (VIDEO_TS folder) to your project by dragging it into the Toast window. 2. Open the Toast Video Editor Now open the Toast Video Editor by clicking on the Extract button on the right of your DVD movie. The editing window will open up showing the video with a timeline at the bottom. 3. Select Your Clips The Toast Video Editor includes a pair of in/out markers on the far left and right of the timeline. Drag these to mark the beginning and ending points of a clip you want to extract. If you want to extract another segment from the same video, first move the cursor above the timeline to a point outside the original selection, then click the marker button centered below the timeline to add an additional set of in/out markers. Repeat the process for each segment you want to select. You can move, clear or invert your markers at any time if you change your mind or make a mistake. Finally save your changes by choosing Close Editor from the View menu. Use the Clear All and Invert Markers options at lower right to change your selections if needed. 4. Convert Export Your Clips Now that you've marked your desired clips, all that's left is to convert and export them. Click the big red Convert button at bottom right, and a dialog box will open where you can select output options. Video output conversion options. First choose the device or format you want to save to, such as iPhone or QuickTime movie. Then select a quality level (we recommend using the default options for your output device). Finally, choose a destination for your video, such as iTunes, your Movies folder, or the Desktop. Click the Convert button, and you're done! Now enjoy your DVD clips on your portable player, upload them to the Web, or use them in your other video projects, including iMovies. Hi Mac, I have used Virtual Box, VMWare, and Parallels and in my opinion, the best one is far and away Parallels. Not only for its superior speed, but also for its simplicity and perfect integration with the Mac environment. Of the three it is the only virtual environment that is exclusively Mac and it can thus take advantage of Mac only interface and features. It's a paid application, but well worth the outlay in my opinion. Re: Suggestion for Wamug meetings
Hi Chris, I have been using Parallels for some time now over many incarnations of OS X, so while I cannot guarantee the latest version will run with 10.5.8, I am fairly confident it will... I just checked the Parallels website and indeed Leopard 10.5.8 is supported - though no version of Tiger 10.4 is. As for the Mac App Store, here is a link: http://www.apple.com/au/mac/app-store Basically it is the same as the iPhone / iPad App Store except that it will sell apps for the Mac. You will be able to search the most popular apps, read user reviews and then download and install the app to your Mac with one click. It is a fairly safe bet that your current Apple ID and iTunes login will work on the Mac App Store as will your iTunes gift cards. I was lucky enough to receive some gift cards for Christmas so I will be amongst the virtual door crashes when the store opens. By the way, I notice from the link above that the store opens on January 7 in Australia and not on January 6 as in the US. Re: Suggestion for Wamug meetings
My pleasure. Re: DVD aspect ratio
Yes, it comes up as 4:3 though you can then go to 16:9. Apple DVD Player has no such facility to change aspect ratio. Because of the TV, the settop box outputs in 576i format with the TV set to 16:9. When the DVD is opened by DVD Player it is always in 4:3 format, not 16:9. I can get to 16:9 digital video with MPegStreamclip or other paths all requiring a time hungry explicit conversion. I can find no way to make the settop box/recorder combination output a DVD in 16:9/ I realise that the 576i format encompasses both aspect ratios with different pixel shapes but the DVD is not tagged with that information it seems. How to access Skype password in Keychain ?
I've forgotten a Skype password which is stored in Keychain Access as an 'application password'. When I go into Keychain Access, and select 'Show password', nothing happens, the password is not shown. Is there a way I can access the password?
