Re: Enquiry

Hi All and Bill

You can use VLC to play the movie. Pause the movie at the critical point and
use Mac OS X's normal screen capture commands to grab the still frames (DVD
Player does not let you do this - unless things have changed in Lion).

As others have mentioned you will require VLC, but it is unnecessary to
use MacOS X to take a screenshot VLC has this feature built-in you just need
to hold down the Command + Option + S buttons when you want to save the
relevant frame.

Hi Nichole

You could try this site,...but take the results with a grain of salt. The
reason I say that is I've seen it say previous models are worth about $150
below new ones,.and people wouldn't pay that for a second hand machine.

http://www.mac2sell.net/index.au.php
Sometimes eBay can be a rough idea as well.
Sometimes it comes down to what people will pay for it,..but it should give
you a rough idea/ball park figures.

Hope that helps.

Hi Ronni

Further to the above subject I found a group called epub2go which promised PDF
to EPUB conversion. I joined up and requested they convert Apple's iPad User
Guide to EPUB but they could not do it, possible reasons given being (a)
Digital Rights Management; (b) non-English fonts and (c) being too complex.

Have I chosen a poor operator or is the User Guide rather too complex for
conversion. Your advice would be appreciated.

Search facility - Mail on Lion - buggy?

2011-07-25 Thread Steven Knowles

I'm finding the search facility for the Lion version of Mail very unreliable,
as in not returning matching messages when it should be. I do have a fairly
large accumulation of messages these days, but wasn't a problem with Snow
Leopard.

I'm wondering if others have found this, or is it a function of me running 10.7
on a MacBook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (must be 4 to 5 years old by now),
which is now considerably more sluggish after moving from Snow Leopard to Lion.

Cheers, Steven

Not meaning to hijack any response from Ronni, but have you tried Calibre

repository and management system for all your important PDF and ePub documents,
it will also do the conversion for you. I have just successfully converted
Apple's own Applescript Language Guide to ePub format, just using the default
parameters. Took about 15 seconds. Calibre also gives you the facility to
export your ePub document to iTunes for syncing with your iOS device of choice.

No need for a third party service.

Might be worth a demo at a future WAMUG meeting...

Re: Dropbox and aliases of files

Hi Ian,

Why do you need to convert the User Guides to ePub format? Dropbox can read
PDFs.

Didn’t you download the User Guides as per my previous email instructions?
I have the 'iPad User Guide’ heaps of User Guides Tutorials in PDF format
on my iPad in ‘iBooks’, also in ‘Evernote’.

/Quote:
I download any User Guides to Open in iBooks (PDF) on my iPad.
Go here to download the SuperDuper User Guide.

Then when I sync to my computer they all show in iTunes Library Books.
