Re: OT Going Solar Power. - longish reply

2010-08-04 Thread Joe Mastrella
Greetings! Your post was very informative and to the point. The only point
you did not cover is the installation of a battery system to supply power in
the evenings. I think the most important aspect of building a solar home is
to build your home using insulation in the form of Styrofoam or Polystyrene
blocks with rebar and cement infill. The second most important is your point
on building orientation. The third is the placement and use of thermal mass.
The utility cost savings with the use of solar hot water and photovoltaic
systems can be increased by proper building orientation use of thermal mass,
insulating double or triple pane windows, super insulation and an
experienced building contractor.

Re: How Apple And The iPad Could Destroy The Mac | Opinion | Mac360.com

2010-04-16 Thread Joe Mastrella
Greetings! If I can put in my two cents. I believe that with the
introduction of the iPad, Apple in the not to distant future will introduce
an Apple Tele -Vision appliance That will be your computer, iPhone and
television. The integration of all these Apple appliances will be available
in the very near future.
As the iPhone and the iPad have been revolutionary products, the logical
next step is an integrated visual and communication device. We will have to
wait to see what our supreme commander at the mother ship has in store for
us. So far so good.

Re: Systems, partitions, applications, Oh My (apologies to AA Milne)

2009-12-13 Thread Joe Mastrella
Greetings!
If you are using or are planning to use multiple external HD make sure to
purchase HDs from different manufactures. Our club in California suggested
to our members that two external HD backups was three times as safe. Some of
our members purchased Western Digital (WD) HDs. Unfortunately WD had a batch
(large amount) of faulty drives shipped to the western US. You can see where
this is leading. I keep a 64 MG flash drive for very important backups of
files generated that day. Our data is important to us, be it photos, video,
music or documents. When you lose a terabite HD, It's a traumatic
experience. Be careful how you configure your back up strategies.

Cheers, Joe

Re: iMac wont start - shows a no-entry sign on grey screen

2009-12-10 Thread Joe Mastrella
Me again! If your or any ones HD is defective do not discard it without
disabling it. There are a number of ways of doing this. If you have access
to an electric drill, drill a hole about 1 inch (2.5 cm) off the center of
the HD. This will ensure that no data can or will be recoverable.

Greetings! Back at our club in the States (California) we had a monthly
clinic for our members. When ever we replaced a hard drive that was shown to
be faulty we would install the faulty HD in a HD enclosure and low and
behold it mounted. This happened about 80 percent of the time. i do not know
why but we were able to recover all the data. So do not discard your old HD.
Buy a case and give it another chance.

use it in the states.

Re: Some Mac NOSTALGIA

2009-08-26 Thread Joe Mastrella
Greetings! My first Mac was a IIVX 32MZ processor, 3 gig HD. I paid just
under 2000 dollars US including an HP printer. Then I decided to upgrade
the memory. I paid 200 dollars for 20 mega bites of ram. That's right, 20
mega bites
of ram. We have come a long way since then.
