Re: Help! me convert my friends into buyin Apple
I do training in PC's (I have to eat) but I have owned 5 Macs since 1985. PC's are crap - Macs are a gift from heaven. But seriously, for new users PC's are just so hard to use, they are unreliable, plug and play is a myth, and the viruses and spyware etc make you mad and paranoid. Yes Macs cost a bit more but you don't get a BMW for the price of a Hyundai (apologies to the Hyundai owners). And strangely enough, even Microsoft software for the Mac is miles ahead of MS software for PC's. If your friends want to live a happy and calm life urge them to get a Mac.. and they look so cool on the desk. Hiding email address
While we are on the subject I remember a posting years ago that had a clever way to hide an email address displayed on a web site. Since leaving iinet the amount of spam on my personal account has dropped but I get heaps from my web site address. Does anyone know or remember how to disguise an address from the robots? Partition or not?
Hi, This is a question related to a PC (sorry, I have to slum it sometimes). Since I downgraded to XP I have been having problems with MS Access and I have thought of formatting the hard drive and setting up 2 partitions with operating system and applications on one and data files on the other. Does anyone have thoughts or experience on something like this? (My thoughts on Microsoft and XP are not suitable for printing as this is a family group.) Thanks, Peter Bull -- [EMAIL PROTECTED]
PC vs Mac? No contest
Hi Muggers, More ammo in the PC versus Mac war. I have had Macs for about 20 years but have to slum it and use a PC a fair bit. I recently uprgraded to Windows XP Professional which looks quite nice and a bit Mac like. But in order to get the PC to use the external CD burner I had to install a new USB 2.0 card for $30. Then the modem couldn't get a dial tone and the tech told me that XP drivers were terrible so I had to install a new modem for $30. This was after wasting hours on both problems trying to make them work and finally admitting defeat and taking the PC box to the shop. So don't believe anyone who says XP is the greatest OS ever invented and Macs are too expensive or too hard to set up. My Mac just keeps on working. USB
I have just bought an Iomega CD RW and installed the software. My imac 350 running OS9 does not see it. The burner does not appear on the desktop and I suspect it might be a USB problem. The burner supports USB 1.1 and 2, but I fear the iMac might be USB 1.0. How do I find out if it is 1.0 or 1.1 and can I upgrade it to 1.1 if required? Thanks, Peter Bull -- [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Is it just me, or does Apple seem to let golden opportunitiesslip by?
You are right - Apple do have a proud history of making great computers but not wanting people to know about them. I have spent the day grappling with MS Access on a PC so I KNOW that Apple make great computers! I'm back on my iMac now :-)) I am surprised that there are a number of web sites that don't work on a Mac, which may be poor design, but Apple should have a guru around to the site's developer to try and fix it. The old chestnut used to be that You can't get software for Macs'. The new one will be - You can't access web sites - and that will really hurt sales. Apple do seem to not want to tell too many people about their product.
