9.2.2 under Classic. So it does work under Classic.

I mentioned to him you couldn't get it to run because it kept requesting you

sometimes but all he did was give the CD a real good clean/wipe and then it
was recognized again. This may be your problem.

Before you say "well it worked on my old machine", I have a theory on that.
Your old machines have plain CD drives in them where as you mentioned your
eMac has a DVD drive. The CD drive may not be as sensitive to
marks/scratches etc than the DVD drive is because of the different
mechanisms/lasers etc. Cleaning it properly should help.

What you could do as an experiment for your own satisfaction is load the
program onto both machines but put the CD in the old one. Then connect for a
LAN game from the eMac to the old one. If the application runs fine under
Classic from the eMac then it will pretty much prove the problem is in the
way the DVD drive on the eMac reads the disk which would help substantiate
my suspicion.

In the past I have resurected iffy CDs by making a Disk Image of them
with Toast and then creating a new disk. Seems to get around some
scratches etc.

Good Luck

Hi Rosie,

I missed your previous posts about playing Warcraft 11 on an eMac running
10.3.9.

We play it - what's the problem you are having?

In fact, we play it over the ethernet between a 7600 running 9.1 with a
G4/400 card and a plain jane 7200 running 9.1, and the eMac.

Tim

Earlier this week I posted a question about Warcraft 2.

Thanx to all of the people who offered suggestions about what I could
try, to get the game working on my EMac.

I tried all of the suggestions offered, unfortunately to no avail.

It appears that it is not possible to play this game on current Mac
computers.

Sadly, I have found a reason not to get rid of my old (boat anchor)
Performa.

Thanx again for all of your suggestions.

Sounds like copy protection. It's probably trying to use some low-level
hack to read the drive in raw mode and finding it won't work in Classic.
One of the many reasons why copy protection hurts legitimate users but
doesn't stop abusers (*sigh*).

Unless there are patches for OS/X compatibility or some trick to enable
it to do what it wants to do in classic, I'd say you're out of luck.
Unless you can find a patch to disable the copy protection (you own the
darn thing after all!), of course, but they're of dubious legaility and
may be very hard to find for old Mac games.

Hi Rosie

As Rod mentioned, it would appear that the game doesn't like playing in
Classic. You could try downloading some of the patches and run them and see
if they work. Otherwise it looks like Warcraft 3 (which runs in OSX) may be
the way you have to go I'm afraid. (It's actually very good, I finished both
that game and the expansion pack) :o)

Here are some links that I hope help.

Hope something there helps.
Enjoy!

It is entirely possible that Warcraft II is not compatible with 9.2.2
in Classic mode. As you can't boot into OS 9 directly on your eMac,
there is no way of finding this out. Guess the old Performa might have
a use after all :-) I'm figuring 8.5 or 8.6 was the OS of choice at
the time Warcraft II was released.

At a guess I would think you may need to copy the game to the drive.
(Assuming you haven't done this already).
On the CD it will either be an installer (which you need to run and it
will
install the game onto the hard drive), or it's the game itself and you
need
to copy this to the hard Drive. (Somewhere like the applications
folder).

Once it's installed (or copied) try running it from this new location
(Applications folder) and if I'm correct you should find it works. I
would
assume that running it from the CD, won't allow it to create the
necessary

files it needs (A CD being a locked media).

Try that and let us know how you go.

Thanks!
Enjoy!
