Hey Daniel, Our iPhone 3Gs don't get the new text tones, some other functions ... Apple are wanting people to upgrade to iPhone 4 :-( Even the current page for iOS 4.2 doesn't note that the new text tones are iPhone 4 specific, though it does note that GameCenter, AirPrint, and VoiceOver have device restrictions. /Quote Messaging with text tones Know who’s texting without looking at your screen. Choose from 17 new alerts and assign custom tones for people in your contact list. iPhone only. /End Quote On the Apple iOS 4.2 page it clearly says the new text tones are iPhone only. If it was only for the iPhone 4 Apple should have posted that. Ah well, back to serious work. Cheers, Ronni On 23/11/2010, at 12:16 PM, Daniel Kerr wrote: The iOS 4.2.1 update crashed my 3Gs iPhone. Re: Anyone had any issues with OS 4.2 on your iPad ?
Hi Rhonda, I have an iPhone 3GS that I upgraded to OS 4.2.1 and it provides access to text tones (and Safari search within web page). To set a text tone, bring up the contact in your contact list and press Edit. Along with ringtone, there is now a new field text tone. Safari search within web page was a bit hard to find as well, but type a search term into the Google search field (the Google label is a bit misleading) and then instead of hitting the Search button, scroll to the bottom of the suggested search terms and press an On this page entry. Hi Carlo (sorry I misspelt your name before), Yes, Apple are becoming greedy I feel, more like Microsoft … my god did I just mention Apple becoming like Microsoft … yikes! My iPhone 3Gs has never given me a problem, everything works perfectly, but if Apple are going to only update the iOS software for the iPhone 4, they are ultimately forcing people to update their iPhones. Which is similar to OS X 10.6 only being able to run on Intel Macs. Yep, Apple are becoming greedy! Cheers, Ronni On 23/11/2010, at 2:33 PM, cm wrote: Hi Ronni, I stand corrected. Hi Susan, Before you update on your iPhone, this is how I updated my iPad and didn't have any problems (as yet). 1. Backup Sync FIRST 2. Then download install the update 3. Let it do another Sync Hope you don't have any problems with the update on the iPhone. Cheers, Ronni On 23/11/2010, at 2:46 PM, Susan Hastings wrote: Only had time to do the iPad this morning. If it was only for the iPhone 4 Apple should have posted that. Ah well, back to serious work. Cheers, Ronni On 23/11/2010, at 12:16 PM, Daniel Kerr wrote: The iOS 4.2.1 update crashed my 3Gs iPhone. Had backed up before I started of course :) Took 4 restores to fix it. To be fair it does have some old apps on it I need to clean up and it's having vodafone issues. Though I got email working again. Yay me :) No problems on iPad though and iPhone working properly again, though no movies and less music as had to rush out and cripple sync :) Kind regards Daniel Sent from my iPhone --- Daniel Kerr MacWizardry Phone: 0414 795 960 Email: dan...@macwizardry.com.au Web:http://www.macwizardry.com.au **For Everything Macintosh** On 23/11/2010, at 11:33 AM, Paul Sparrow p.spar...@curtin.edu.au wrote: with the release of OS 4.2 for iphone and iPad today anyone had any issues? -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:wamug-unsubscr...@wamug.org.au
