Hi Ronni,
What I have is a Netgear Wireless Router, not a Wireless Modem Router.
I installed it into the system to interface between both my Macbook and the

Hi John,

That’s good that it is all working well, but ….
I’ve been wondering, actually its been bugging me ;-) since your first post to
WAMUG as to WHY you are using the iConnectAccess AND a Netgear Wireless Modem
Router?

What Netgear model are you using, it’s obviously a Wireless Modem Router, so
why not do away with the iConnectAccess Modem and just configure the Netgear
with your ISP settings and let the Netgear handle it all … Internet & Wireless
Network?

Unless I’ve been missing something here ;-)

Cheers,

 Hi John,

It’s hard not being able to see your Network setup, so I’ll ask a few
questions to try and ascertain how you have your Network setup.

First question: Do you have a good In-Line ‘Filter’ between the phone &
 iConnectAccess Modem?
>>> Yes

Second question: What Version is the iConnectAccess621?
>>> Version 1

Third question: Do you have the Netgear Router setup as a Wireless Network?
>>> Yes

If you don’t know the version number of iConnectAccess621, you can check
 here:

If you’re connecting a third party router (any router) to your iPrimus
ADSL modem, the modem needs to be in bridge mode first.

If you have the Netgear Router setup as your Wireless Network and it has
been working wirelessly ok, other than it is slow to connect to the
Internet first thing in the morning. You can continue reading the below
instructions … if not post back to WAMUG with more details please, so we
 can perhaps assist you more.
 —

Basically you need to check a few settings first:
 1. Connect your iMac via the yellow ethernet cable to the iConnectAccess
 Modem

 2. Check on your iMac: System Preferences > Network - Choose Ethernet -
 Configure IPv4: Using DHCP

 3. Click Advanced (in Snow Leopard) - TCP/IP - Configure IP4: Using DHCP
 Then
 4. Open Safari and login to the iConnectAccess Modem.
 A) Type 192.168.1.254 in Safari’s Address Bar
 B) If you have not changed the Default Login, it is Username: root
 Password: 0P3N ((thats zero-P-three-N)

 5. Then you should be able to change the connection to ‘Bridge Mode’
 A) Go to the Setup button along the top, then Click the New Connection
option listed under WAN Setup (down the far left-hand side).

B). Towards the top of the page, you should have a dropdown selection
called Type, and it will probably be on PPPoE -- change it to Bridge.
The page will then refresh with the bridge mode options. If you have
version 2 of the iConnect modem, you'll need to enter a name for the
connection - type "iPrimus" in the Name: box at the top (version 3 will
have "MyConnection" in this box already).

 6. All the default settings are fine, so click Apply

 7. Click ’Save/Restart (if version 3) or System Commands (if version 2)

 8. Then connect the yellow Ethernet Cable from the iConnectAccess621 to
the WAN Port on the Netgear.
The Netgear should be configured to connect using PPPoE ( as you have
had this Network connecting to the Internet).

I found this on the iPrimus support site which might be of help to you.

 Cheers,
 Ronni

At the moment, all appears to be working fine. I followed the links

Re: ? modem problems

2011-02-25 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Ashley,

The D-Links have been known for their intermittent dropouts, I had one years
ago and got rid of it for a Netgear.
But try this:
Is the D-Link 502T a Wireless Router? If so turn OFF wireless on the D-Link.
You don’t want both the D-Link & Airport distributing IP addresses.

In System Preferences > Network - Airport - Advanced - TCP/IP have Configure
IPv4: Using DHCP
Then in Airport Utility.
Set the Airport Express in Airport Utility > Internet - Internet Connection
Connect Using: Ethernet
Connection Sharing: OFF (Bridge Mode)

Restart the D-Link, wait until it’s lights are all working correctly
Restart you Airport Express

See if that helps.

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: ? modem problems

2011-02-25 Thread Ashley Mulder
I'd like to follow on from this if i may

Using a DLink 502T to connect to an airport express station, with another
station acting as a range extender

The DLink is setup to PPPoE and handles that side of things, and the AES is
connected to it via ethernet
the AES is setup to 'share an IP address' and create a wireless network

There are 3 computers that use the wireless network

Would it be better to let the AES handle the PPPoE while the modem is bridged?
or set the AES to bridged mode while creating a wireless network?
or just leave it as it is?

We are experiencing intermittent dropout issues which are resolved by
restarting the AES's
(intermittent as in 3-4 times a day but sometimes only say 3 times a week)

 Hi All,
A problem has occurred relatively recently with my, I think, modem.

The computer is switched off each night and on again early in the morning
when it is cool enough to sit in this hot box. The modem, an ADSL2/ 2+
iConnect Access 621 about four years old, and the Netgear Wireless Router,
two years old, do not switch off.

When I first try to access the internet via Safari (or Firefox or Chrome)
in the morning it slows down to a snail pace; in fact at times I have to
quit out of frustration. The only solution I have found at this time is
to unpower the modem for a few seconds and then power up again. After
this all works again, albeit not as fast as I would like. My internet
connection is via high speed ADSL2 and has been very satisfactory for some
 years.

Email does not appear to be affected, only internet.

Any ideas? Would a new modem help?

Re: ? modem problems

2011-02-21 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi John,

It’s hard not being able to see your Network setup, so I’ll ask a few questions
to try and ascertain how you have your Network setup.

First question: Do you have a good In-Line ‘Filter’ between the phone &
iConnectAccess Modem?

Second question: What Version is the iConnectAccess621?

Third question: Do you have the Netgear Router setup as a Wireless Network?

If you don’t know the version number of iConnectAccess621, you can check here:

If you’re connecting a third party router (any router) to your iPrimus ADSL
modem, the modem needs to be in bridge mode first.

If you have the Netgear Router setup as your Wireless Network and it has been
working wirelessly ok, other than it is slow to connect to the Internet first
thing in the morning. You can continue reading the below instructions … if not
post back to WAMUG with more details please, so we can perhaps assist you more.
—

Basically you need to check a few settings first:
1. Connect your iMac via the yellow ethernet cable to the iConnectAccess Modem

2. Check on your iMac: System Preferences > Network - Choose Ethernet -
Configure IPv4: Using DHCP

3. Click Advanced (in Snow Leopard) - TCP/IP - Configure IP4: Using DHCP
Then
4. Open Safari and login to the iConnectAccess Modem.
A) Type 192.168.1.254 in Safari’s Address Bar
B) If you have not changed the Default Login, it is Username: root Password:
0P3N ((thats zero-P-three-N)

5. Then you should be able to change the connection to ‘Bridge Mode’
A) Go to the Setup button along the top, then Click the New Connection option
listed under WAN Setup (down the far left-hand side).

B). Towards the top of the page, you should have a dropdown selection called
Type, and it will probably be on PPPoE -- change it to Bridge.
The page will then refresh with the bridge mode options. If you have version 2
of the iConnect modem, you'll need to enter a name for the connection - type
"iPrimus" in the Name: box at the top (version 3 will have "MyConnection" in
this box already).

6. All the default settings are fine, so click Apply

7. Click ’Save/Restart (if version 3) or System Commands (if version 2)

8. Then connect the yellow Ethernet Cable from the iConnectAccess621 to the WAN
Port on the Netgear.
The Netgear should be configured to connect using PPPoE ( as you have had
this Network connecting to the Internet).

I found this on the iPrimus support site which might be of help to you.

Cheers,
Ronni

Hi Ronni,
Thanks for your response. I am not sure what you mean by "bridge
Mode", perhaps you could explain it in more detail.

What I do have is an Ethernet connection between the Router and the
Modem, which in turn is connected to the phone line.

Thanks and regards,

Hi John,

If you are using the Netgear Wireless Router for the wireless network, do you
have the iConnectAccess 621 in ‘Bridge Mode’?
Bridge mode turns off the Router functions and allows another device (The
Netgear Router) to handle the connection for you.

You can’t have Two Routers … or you can have double NAT issues.

Hi...

Was the computer plugged into the phone line during any recent
thunderstorms? That could well explain it.

Other than that unplug any external USB devices other than mouse and
keyboard and reboot.

Have fun,

I have a problem with the the modem in my iMac (DV SE 400). When I
attempt to

use Internet Connect (on 10.2.6), I get an error message stating that the
"device does not exist". I have checked the System Overview and,
sure enough,

no modem appears under the network overview.

This is the second time that this has happened. The last time was
about a year

ago while I was still under warranty. The solution then was the installation
of a new modem (the current modem). I was hoping that it would not have to
come to that this time as I find it hard to believe that I have
been dealt two

 consecutive dud modems.

Modem problems

2002-11-11 Thread Lloyd White

I have an iMac with a built in modem. I am using OS 9.2.1 and Entourage.

A problem has developed just recently when connecting to my server. When I
start the connection I hear a cracking noise like static before the usual
modem scream starts. Then the screaming goes on and on with repeated
attempts to connect. When I do connect I often get disconnected quickly.

It happens when connecting by Remote Access and when connecting by clicking
on Send and Receive in Entourage. There is no other phone connected to this
line.

I have tried it with both Webace and iiNet and the problem is the same. It
is my machine.

The modem scripts are: Apple Internal 56k, (both v34 and v90), iMac Internal
56 (v34 only) and Apple personal modem. None seem any better.

I have changed modem scripts and trashed the modem preferences. It is a
sometimes thing. This try, no problems, next try no connect.

Is there some piece of the software I should reinstall or some other
preference I should trash?

Or does is sound like a wonky modem?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
