Thank you Ronni.
I have carried out those instructions and all seems well now.
PS: Is it just me getting older or is Apple making things less intuitive as
time passes ?
Even my Step son in Dubai has told me that sometimes he feels like he is back
using Windows in the bad old days !

1. In iTunes on your computer, go to the iPhone Music tab and uncheck "Sync
Music".
2. Then do your sync.
3. If there are any remaining songs on the iPhone after the sync, delete them.
4. Then recheck "Sync Music" and sync again, which will force all the music
that is checked to be reloaded onto the iPhone.
——
Does your wife have her iPhone sync set as below?
1. Select the iPhone, click Music in the sidebar, and then select the “Sync
Music” checkbox, you can then select a radio button to sync your “Entire music
library” or “Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres”
Select “Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genes"

2. Check the playlists or artists you want to sync.

Re: Music on iPhone

2016-05-30 Thread Stephen Chape
Hi Ronni,
Sorry this took so long.

It turned out that once I unchecked “only sync checked files” in the iPhone
screen in iTunes on the Mac everything was fine.
I had not realised that in iTunes on the Mac some files were checked and others
not checked.
To sync music I check the individual artists I want in the iPhone info screen
in iTunes on the Mac, so only the selected files will sync.
So that works fine now.

Now I have an issue with Music on my wife’s iPhone 5.
To begin with her file selections were the same as for my iPhone 6s.
However yesterday she decided she wanted to add some artists and delete some
artists.
So we plugged her iPhone into the Mac and made the selection changes.

When her phone was then synced with the Mac, the additional artists were added
to her Music.
But the artists we deleted remained in Music on her phone.
I had to go through them on her phone deleting each individual one.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated please so I can stop a repeat of this ?

Hi Stephen,

What format & compression are the music tracks that you are unable to sync?
Are they AAC or MP3 or ?
Do you have enough space on your iPhone to hold all the music you have selected
to sync?

If you ripped your CDs as WAV, AIFF, or Apple Lossless files, which take up a
lot of space, you may want to change to AAC or MP3 files.

Double check if the songs on your iTunes library have same folder location as
before.
Sometimes iTunes does not indicate which songs it cannot find until you select
them.
Songs in your library that iTunes can't locate, won't be synced to your iPhone.

Re: transfer non cloud eligible music to iPhone

Hi Ronni,
Step 4 is a problem…

’s iPhone can access your iCloud Music Library. Songs can be downloaded and
played via WiFi or a mobile network.

so, my only ‘Music' option is sync voice memos.

No other music option are given.

Do I need to disable iCloud Music somehow, first?
Brian

4. Then in the Sidebar click Music and in the Sync Music - check 'Selected
playlists, artists, albums, and genres

4. Select/ tick the New Playlist that you want on the iPhone

with the iPhone plugged in via usb and showing in iTunes I can’t click and
drag, can’t use add to phone,
manage music manually seems to have gone, probably as I work through the
 cloud…

 Can it be done?

Hi Brian,

In iTunes - File 'Add to Library' and add the music tracks to the iTunes
Library.
Then in iTunes create a New Playlist and add the tracks you want to transfer.

1. Open iTunes and select the tracks
2. File New - 'Playlist from selection'
3. Connect your iPhone to iTunes via USB cable, then select iPhone in the
navigation bar
4. Then in the Sidebar click Music and in the Sync Music - check 'Selected
playlists, artists, albums, and genres
4. Select/ tick the New Playlist that you want on the iPhone
5.Click 'Sync'

When you sync an iOS device with your iTunes Library, you can tell it what
content to transfer in two ways that are manual and in one way that is
automatic.
The two manual options appear on the Summary pane, a little way down in the
Options section.
Sync only checked songs and videos - if you've selected this box, iTunes will
copy only those items whose little checkboxes are checked.
Manually manage music and videos - this method is time consuming but may be a
good choice if you don't want to worry about syncing automatically and prefer
just to drag what you want to your device.
If you select this option, then music and videos will copy to your iOS device
ONLY if you drag them to its list of contents.
To add items:
1. Use the Devices button in the Navigation bar to select your device. In the
'On My Device' section in the sidebar, you see a list of the libraries and
playlists on the device.

2. Click a Library listed under 'On My Device' and then click the 'Add To'
button near the top-right of the window. iTunes switches the window around,
showing your iTunes Library content at the left and the contents of your device
at the right.
Notice the name of the device below the right-hand list, along with the amount
of free space available.

3. Drag any items from the left to the right-hand list
4. When you've finished adding content, click Done

To delete items:
1. With the device selected in the navigation bar, in the 'On My Device'
section of the sidebar, click a Library.
2. Select any files you want to remove. You can even select all files in a
category.
3. Press the Delete key.

Note: There's one downside to manual syncing : play counts and last played
dates don't get synced back to your Mac. So you won't be able to use this
metadata to generate smart playlists.

Automatic Syncing lets you choose from a number of ways to sync content.
If you choose a device, click 'Music' in the sidebar, and then select the 'Sync
Music' checkbox (located near the upper left), you can then select a radio
button to sync your Entire music library, or Selected playlists, artists,
albums, and genres

Then you can make your sync selections in Podcasts - Books etc.

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: transfer non cloud eligible music to iPhone

2015-07-27 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Brian,

I didn't think you would have turned on iCloud Music Library.
I don't use iCloud Music Library or iTunes Match library!
In iTunes, I backup to my computer, and sync what music media files to my
iPhone iPad exactly the way I want to...

NOTE: If you have turned on iCloud Music Library on your iOS device, you can't
sync music from iTunes. iCloud Music Library replaces syncing, allowing you to
download content from the cloud.

I don't let iTunes Match my music as I have most of my music in AIFF Apple
Lossless format. All my imported music from CDs are imported in AIFF format.

If you use iTunes Match, you must turn on iCloud Music Library in order to
access your matched music.

Have a read here to understand what happens if you turn off iCloud Music
Library.

 2. Click a Library listed under 'On My Device' and then click the 'Add To'
button near the top-right of the window. iTunes switches the window around,
showing your iTunes Library content at the left and the contents of your
 device at the right.
Notice the name of the device below the right-hand list, along with the
 amount of free space available.

If you choose a device, click 'Music' in the sidebar, and then select the
'Sync Music' checkbox (located near the upper left), you can then select a
radio button to sync your Entire music library, or Selected playlists,
 artists, albums, and genres

Then you can make your sync selections in Podcasts - Books etc.

Hi again Brian,

You didn't mention if you had also tried the Manual way I mentioned in my first
reply?
---
Manually manage music and videos - this method is time consuming but may be a
good choice if you don't want to worry about syncing automatically and prefer
just to drag what you want to your device.

2. Click a Library listed under 'On My Device' (in this case - Music) and then
click the 'Add To' (or Edit) button near the top-right of the window. iTunes
switches the window around, showing your iTunes Library content at the left and
the contents of your device at the right.
Notice the name of the device below the right-hand list, along with the amount
of free space available.

3. Drag any items from the left to the right-hand list
4. When you've finished adding content, click Done

Hi Michael,

iTunes should not automatically open and play music files when a Thumb Drive is
inserted into your Mac!
You don't have to Import the music files into iTunes.
And if you don't want iTunes to play the music files that are on the Thumb
Drive.

1. Select each music file on the Thumb Drive
2. Go to File Open With - and select QuickTime Player.app from the Dropdown
Menu.
