Re: Backup iPhone

2020-06-17 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Peter

I’ve seen that once before and just trying to recall how I resolved it - can’t
recall exactly at the moment.
One thing to try (but I might be thinking of another job) - try connecting to
them to a Mojave or earlier computer if you have it,…one not running Catalina.
See if the devices show up in iTunes. Then you’ll know there are connecting.
Then plug it back in to the computer (make sure it’s a direct connection to the
computer, not through any hubs or anything like that - just cable from iPhone
straight to computer). Then see if it shows up.
Otherwise may need a “connection reset” of sorts,….

Kind regards
Daniel

Re: Backup iPhone

2020-06-17 Thread Peter Curtis
Hi Daniel
I’ve still to read your recommended link and will do so tomorrow, but from what
I’ve seen of it, it also says it will appear in the Finder window with perhaps
a request to pair or trust the item but because it doesn’t show in the Finder
window it can’t be paired or trusted?
The iPhone doesn’t show in the Finder window, nor does my iPad? and I’ve used
two different cables to make sure. The iPhone and the iPad show up in Photo’s
so it shouldn’t be the connection, but what?
I’ll read the recommended link in full tomorrow
Kind regards
Peter

Re: Backup iPhone

2020-06-17 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Peter (and Stephen).

Mojave still uses iTunes.
Music didn’t come into it, until Catalina (10.15).

To backup your device in Catalina, you now do it in the Finder.
When you plug in your phone to the computer, open a Finder window (or just
click anything to open a window). The iPhone will be listed in the sidebar now.
And from there you can access the settings and do a backup.
This link may help a bit more as well -

Hi again Peter.

The cable that you use to charge your iPhone should be the one.
The Firewire end goes into the iPhone and the USB end goes into the Mac.

What MacOS are you using ?
For Mohave you need to use Music on the Mac.
For older OS’s you need to use iTunes.

Re: Backup iPhone

2020-06-17 Thread Peter Curtis
Hi
I’ve plugged in using a USB connection rather than Lightning, older phone 6SE
and about a 3 yr old MacBookPro.
Doesn’t show up on my brothers new MacBook with his iPhone 6S, or my iPhone SE?
Surely they aren’t too old?

Then On your Mac you open Music in the Dock.
But your iPhone does not show on the left menu ?

Re: backup iPhone 7

2018-07-15 Thread gary dorn
good idea - problem we have is that the macbook currently runs off an external
SSD drive , connected by one the 2 USB ports. I ned to get my 4 USB Port thing
connected tot the macbook to connect all these things together - didn’t have
time yesterday.

I remembered that I had some iPhone software called imazing https://imazing.com
so connected both external backup drive and iPhone 7 to the macpro USB
ports, then used iAmazing 2 ( which we have a license for) to backup iphone
to the external hard drive.

will do for now.

thanks for the suggestion about moving the photos database to a different
drive - I recently did this on my macpro when I upgraded to El Capitan - i.e.
el capitan on SSD boot drive, data on a separate hardisk.

Gary

Re: backup iPhone 7

2018-07-13 Thread Peter
Yes, I was thinking a similar solution to Susan’s suggestion. Given the limited
space on the Macbook, why not get yourself a sizeable external drive (1TB
minimum) and migrate your existing iTunes Library to the external and then
you’ll have heaps of space. Also review your Macbook to determine what other
things you can offload to an external drive (Photos and other folders perhaps).
This will also help with the Macbook operation as Ronni has always said to try
to maximise your space available and having <10% of the SSD capacity available
is getting pretty light on. I have a 250GB SSD MBP Retina and both my iTunes
and Photos app Libraries are on the external (but also included in the Time
Machine Backup) so if you’re ok with holding those items externally, then this
could be a solution for you.

Regards

Pete.

Hi Gary, why not use her laptop to back up the iPhone directly to an external
HD. You would probably need to have an iTunes library on the external drive,
easy enough to create. Cheers, Susan
