Re: iPhone repair

2009-10-05 Thread James Anderson
Hi all,

Just to update you all on the best iPhone repair process I've come up
with so far, since it is superior to the method Optus offers! (for a small
fee).

1. Call Apple 1300 321 456 (put aside 20mins-40mins for being on hold!!)
2. Explain your issue and arrange 'advanced replacement'. Where they send
you a replacement iPhone and a mailing bag and you post your iPhone back to
them. The caveats are: the put a hold on your credit card for the value of
the iPhone and charge you $39 for the advanced-replacement service.

Much better than the month wait without a phone Optus was offering me. Let's
just hope it all works out!

Hi everyone, thanks for your ideas and help.

The standard Optus repair/replacement timeline which they advertise is
5-10 working days to assess it and the a further 5-10 days for dispatching a
replacement/refurbished model, however they have a significant backlog and
talking to the Optus staff there have been people with iPhones waiting up to
 4 weeks.

I have not spoken to Apple directly, just a couple of service centres, so
will try that tomorrow. Thanks to Craig for his suggestion.

It took 2 days to receive satchel, courier picked up that day, phone

despatches new phone same day, phone should be delivered next business day.

Alternatively take it to an Optus shop and they should be able to provide
a loan phone,? Virgin do, but Perth only one Virgin shop miles from my
 location.

Insurance my understanding was they are supposed to release a new phone to
you for minimal charge being $50 I think and you send your phone for repair
and once determined warranty this charge is refunded. Please do not take as
being fact I just re-call such a deal from somewhere it could have been
 Apple.

Personally if taking out insurance I would have done Applecare, providing
an extra year to warranty plus extras, and household content insurance
protects mobile phones from theft loss and some damage.

Essentially the doc connector needs replacing, from what I can ascertain.
The phone is still under warranty and ALSO has insurance with Optus.

After calling Optus I am informed that my iPhone needs to be sent away
and will be returned in around a MONTH! AND the excesses involved may be up
to $150 if it isn't a warranty repair.

After talking to the folks at Next Byte and Artref, they inform me that
the only way to get iPhones repaired under warranty is by sending it through
 the network's repair arrangements.

I am contemplating getting an independent phone repair company in Perth
to repair the doc connector for $185 which would likely be done overnight,
 but not covered by warranty.

I suspect someone on WAMUG has had to deal with repairing an iPhone and I
would appreciate any advice. Being without my phone for a month is totally
unacceptable, and it was for this reason I invested in insurance which
 appears to be a joke.
