Re: iPhoto Issue after updating to Mac OS 10.8.4 FIXED

2013-06-16 Thread Marcus F Harris
THANK YOU RONNI
I do the "repair pemissions" religiously, but this must have been an issue that
had to be fixed with the process you suggested.
Thanks again.

Re: iPhoto Issue after updating to Mac OS 10.8.4 FIXED

2013-06-16 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Marcus,

Great to hear your OS X 10.8.4 system and iPhoto is all working as it should.
I would also suggest you "Repair Permissions" in Disk Utility.

That's perfectly fine to inform the discussion thread of what fixed your
problems.

Combo Updates update the base version of the Mac OS X release to the version
specified in the Combo Update, including all intermediate updates. for example,
the Mac OS X 10.8.4 Combo Update updates any earlier version of Mac OS X 10.8
to OS X 10.8.4 using a single installer, as opposed to installing the
individual Mac OS X 10.8.1, 10.8.2, 10.8.3 updates.

Combo updates contain all incremental updates and will update files that could
have become corrupted.

Combo updates will install on the same version as they're applying--- no need
to roll back or do a clean install. So if you think you have a bad 10.8.4
install from a regular update, just run the 10.8.4 Combo Update on the system.

I always recommend going to the Apple downloads site and manually downloading
the Combo system upgrades; that is the only way to be sure that everything that
needs to be in place is in place.

Also it's a good idea to:
1. Repair Permissions before any Apple update
2. Restart after running the update
3. Run Repair Permissions again.

Cheers,
Ronni

Hi Ronni,
Fantastic…Following your instructions the system is working well and no further
problems with iPhotos and reading memory cards.

What is the difference between Combo Update and updating from Apple Apps?
Re iPhoto…Yes, that was the issue exactly. There wasn't an image visible to

Hi Marcus,

You did say you have tried all the suggestions of Terrence & Eric.
Did you quit iPhoto and move the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist
file to the desktop and the reopen iPhoto?

Hi Marcus,

Do you have Photos selected under Library?
Then double-click a thumbnail image in Photos
You should then see the enlarged photo in the centre frame and Info/Edit/Create
etc in Right column of the iPhoto window
And the thumbnail strip at bottom.

From what you mention below you are not seeing the enlarged photo in the centre
frame of the iPhoto window... Is that correct?
The flag is if you want to 'flag' an image.

> Also my iMac doesn't recognise inserted USB flash drives and SDHC Cards now,
> but that's another issue for another day.

I would suggest you Repair Permissions, Repair Drive and download the combo
update and install that.

Repair Drive in Mountain Lion:

1. Reboot the Mac and hold down Command+R to boot into Recovery
2. Select “Recovery HD” at the boot menu
3. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select “Disk Utility”
4. Select the boot volume or partition from the left menu and click on the
“Repair” tab
5. Repair Disk is now possible, click on “Repair Disk” to repair the boot volume

Cheers,
Ronni

 If using iPhoto'11 (v 9.4.3)
 1. Quit iPhoto
 2. Then while holding the Command and Option keys on the keyboard, open
 iPhoto
 3. A dialogue box appears, select "Rebuild Thumbnails"
This can take awhile if you have a large library.

Re: iPhoto Issue after updating to Mac OS 10.8.4

2013-06-15 Thread Marcus F Harris
Hi Ronni,
It's bewildering.
I have checked hidden photos in the VIEW. No, it's not that.
I'll try to explain a bit more as I've tried all the recommended solutions, by
you and the Apple Support Friends Terence and Eric.

When in iPhoto, I select a photo and click EDIT, the photo is invisible, but
the thumbnail is visible in the strip below.
What is visible is the request to ID the faces? Sometimes a FLAG appears as
well.

If I select EFFECTS, the thumbnails appear on the RHS, but the photo itself
remains invisible.

Before I updated to ML 10,8,4 I didn't have this problem.

Also my iMac doesn't recognise inserted USB flash drives and SDHC Cards now,
but that's another issue for another day.

Thanks for trying to find a solution. Perhaps it's something I overlooked and I
guess I can report this to APPLE if there's no obvious solution.
Cheers
Marcus

Re: iPhoto Issue after updating to Mac OS 10.8.4

2013-06-14 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Marcus,

I'm not anywhere near a computer at the moment, I will be back home later today
and will have a look at my iPhoto'11 Library to see perhaps if I can understand
what your problem actually is, I'm not understanding what you are experiencing
:-(

Just a thought... You wouldn't have these photos hidden would you?

 If using iPhoto'11 (v 9.4.3)

Hi Ronni,
Unfortunately neither suggestion worked for me.
I mean, I followed the procedures but to no avail.
I'll respond to the discussions as well in case someone else has the same issue
with ML 10.8.4.
Thanks for suggestions.

Hi Marcus,

Did you try both suggestions to your question on Apple Discussions?

/quotes
"As a Test:

Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu
select 'Create Library'

Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?"

And
"If that doesn't work, try rebuilding the library."

iPhoto Library rebuild
/end Quotes
What were your results?

Cheers,

Re: iPhoto Issue after updating to Mac OS 10.8.4

2013-06-14 Thread Marcus F Harris
Hi Ronni,
No, I can view the thumbnails, however I followed your advice and that didn't
change anything.
Then, I did a full database rebuild and still no resolution of the issue.

After updating to OS10.8.4 I can no longer view an individual photos within
"info and edit".
I know the image is there because Face ID is showing as "is this So and So?"
So, for some strange reason, the image itself is invisible.

I have run permission repairs and restarted with shift key active and it makes
no difference.
If you have any further suggestions, I'll be pleased to try them.

If using iPhoto'11 (v 9.4.3)

This can take awhile if you have a large library.
