Hi Daniel and Rosemary, I have a free web app Disk Inventory X - it is very
good at showing you where everything is. It is amazing the clutter that can
build up - and this application presents in a nice user friendly way to drill
down the levels to see what junk is cluttering up your drive. When you get it
and run it - you must give it a bit of time to scan the selected drive before
you’re presented with the representation of all the stuff you have.

At the same time a lot of caution should be taken in not indiscriminately
deleting stuff you need to keep - especially system related.

Pete.

Hi Rosemary

That “storage” part can sometimes get a little lost, so it just dumps things
into one spot.
Best way is to have all the folders in List View and turn on “Calculate All
Sizes” (from View menu - Show View Options.
Then let it calculate folders. You can then narrow down where a lot of space
may be used.
(Some can be in hidden folders as well, especially if you have back ups of
iPhones/iPads etc. (and old models, as it saves them all).
Also, if you have iPhoto Library and Photos Library (in Pictures) then this
can take up more room than needed.

That’s a fairly “quick” way to get a rough idea of where it may be. Then can
work through it.
(Sometimes not always an easy thing to narrow down straight away).

Another Application that can help with it sometimes is WhatSize -
https://www.whatsizemac.com
(But you have buy it to get all the feature set, so sometimes the free trial
only gives you a rough idea of space).

Hope something there helps.
Kind regards
Daniel

very puzzled.

2020-10-29 Thread Rosemary Spark
Hi there,
I keep receiving a message saying my disc is almost full. When I go to the
storage section it says only 859mb out of 121 gb is free. 103.77GB is
allocated to system files. This seems excessive. The library folder has
86gb alone. I have deleted a couple of large backup files but not sure what
else to do.
I'm keeping this running Mojave because I'm running Family Tree Builder 32
bit (until the 64 bit one comes out) and Dreamweaver CS6 as for the amount
of use I now get out of it it's not worth asubscription.

MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017)
MacOS Mojave 10.14.6

8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
