Re: wanted to buy MacBook

2013-06-16 Thread Kevin Lock
Morning folks. My brother went out and bought a MacBook Air; as he
would a Jeep.

The request I posted looking for a MacBook for him is no longer valid.

Thanks for the replies,

Did Brian's mate want your powerbook in the end? If not I would be
interested - my very similar one has a battery but a dodgy screen,
among other things, so they could be a perfect match.

But no one mentioned connecting the G4 by target disk mode
to another Mac which already has Tiger installed .

then use Superduper to copy from the Tiger Mac using the " No users
option "

Puts all the system and applications but none of the private data or
user preference's .

Don't even need a system disk to do it . License is your other

Hi Kevin,

a simple solution is to boot a Mac with DVD reader in target mode
and connect via firewire to the old G4 as a slave. You can then
install the OS onto the G4.

Re: wanted to buy

2008-12-15 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi again Kevin,

I found this Document on one of my External Drives (boy, I need a
decent filing system, so I can find stuff) ;-)

Installing Tiger without a DVD drive:
Use an external DVD drive:

That might seem like an obvious solution but many Mac users are
wondering whether this is possible. The good news is that it is, with
most external DVD drives. Anything modern, self powered, FireWire
equipped and using the latest firmware available for it has good
chances to do the trick.

The difficulty here is that you need to be able to boot from this
device. To perform the installation this way, connect the external
drive to the Mac, insert the DVD into it and restart your Mac while
holding the “Option” key.

After a while, your Mac should present you with a list of all the
available boot volumes, which includes this external drive — you may
need to wait a few minutes until you can click on it but that’s
normal. From there on, simply follow the traditional steps and you
should be all right.

**

Using FireWire Target Disk Mode

This installation method relies on the ability of modern Macs to boot
into a special mode called “FireWire Target Disk Mode” that causes
them to be seen by other computers are simple external FireWire hard
drives. It will require that you have a spare Mac with a built-in
SuperDrive or Combo drive (anyone knows why they aren’t called
ComboDrive, by the way?) to play with.

Start by starting the DVD-deprived Mac into FireWire Target Disk Mode,
by holding the “T” key down until you see a big FireWire logo dancing
on the screen. Then, by using a thick, known-good FireWire cable,
connect it to your other Mac and wait until it appears on your Desktop.

Finally, insert the Tiger DVD into the computer and restart it. From
there on, simply follow the traditional steps. You will be able to
select the external Mac in the Installer Window as the destination
drive for Mac OS X. Your other volumes should be left intact.

**

Cheers,

Ronni

Wanted to buy - PC laptop

2008-12-07 Thread Kaye and Geoff

Hi,

My sister, who is a Mac user, wants to buy a second-hand PC laptop to
set up as a game-playing machine.

We wondered if anyone has a laptop from the dark side that they no
longer use. Only requirements are:

15" screen (or better)
enough memory to be useful
running XP
reasonable price

I live down on the south coast and my sister lives up north, so
neither of us is in a position to view/pick-up a machine in Perth in
the short term, but if you have something that might be suitable
contact me off-list and I'm sure we can sort something out if the
machine sounds OK.

Hi

We just bought a few batches of late 2006 MacBooks and Apple have stopped
supplying the video adaptor, it is now something you have to buy separately
at a cost of I believe around $50!

Great because we won't have hundreds of them, but bad because we don't have
any! The MacBook Pro's still come with one though to go from DVI to VGA.

Wanted to Buy - Roxio Toast 6

2005-12-12 Thread James&Rosemary Rutherford

Hi All,
I have an iMac G5 running OSX 10.3.5 and I would like to buy a copy of Roxio
Toast 6 (Version 7 needs 10.3.9 or later and I do not want to upgrade at the
moment.)

Correct me if I am wrong but Toast 6 will allow me to burn CD-RW and DVD-RW
on my super drive. Yes?

Does any one have a Toast Version 6 for sale?

Thanks
James Rutherford

WANTED TO BUY - Used 21" CRT - Prefer Apple, Graphite

2005-11-14 Thread Glenn Brockman - Unsharpmask
Dear WAMUGgers,

I'm in the market for two or more secondhand 21 inch CRT monitors - my
preference is for a matched pair of Apple Studio Display 21's in Graphite,
but I'd consider any late-model flattish 21 inch CRT's from reputable
brands.

I'm in Bunbury - but I'll travel to the metro area to arrange an
inspection/purchase... I offer better money for better monitors!

Glenn Brockman, Bunbury.

FW: wanted to buy - early iMac

2003-07-23 Thread Lisa Pitcher
Hi Greg

Check with Ross's Salvage Computer area. I know of 6 blue iMac's that were
sent there recently for auction or re-sale. Hopefully they are still there
and they aren't asking too much for them.

Under OS 9 I sometimes got that affect in an area of the screen that
corresponded to the location of a window of another application. Often the
app was a 'Faceless Background Application' or just something that was
halfway-dead (beta versions were good at doing that).

You could either try to identify which of the running processes could be
causing that effect, or upgrade to OS X -- which seems to be becoming a
'universal fix' for most OS 9 troubles these days! ;)

Back in the old days, I liked Memory Mapper as a tool for getting
information about running apps. Seems to be available from both
 and
, for some odd reason. It is one of a few
things I'd like to see updated for OS X actually (yes I know there is top
and Process Viewer, but nothing beats a graphical display for some things.)

Wanted to Buy and Disappearing Cursor

2003-07-06 Thread Kelly Duffy
Hi everyone,

A couple of things. Firstly I want to buy an old iMac, preferably blue,
green or purple but I'm not hugely fussy. It doesn't have to be a super
machine, but it does need to be able to be networked with my G4 (running
OS9.2 but soon to be upgraded to 10). The iMac will be for my 3 year old
daughter, mainly for the Wiggles website and educational games and packages,
to keep her amused and off my G4, so it just needs to be an old work horse
and I don't want to spend a lot. This isn't an urgent request, so if anyone
has one they're thinking of getting rid of give me a call on 0403224404.

Secondly, my cursor has recently started disappearing at times, when it
leaves the main window or onto menu bars and tool palettes which makes
running Photoshop and Dreamweaver difficult. It only does it in a certain
area of my screen and only at certain times. Any ideas?

Kind regards,
Kelly Duffy

Wanted To Buy: 32meg Graphics card

2003-07-01 Thread Toby Oldham

Is there anyone locally who can sell me a 32-64meg graphics card for a sawtooth
AGP
G4 400 PowerMac? I'll grab one from Other World Computing (in the US) otherwise.

It doesn't have to be fancy, I just need something that'll enable Quartz
extreme.

Cheers,

Tobes.

Re: Wanted to buy - a machine from the dark side

2003-03-05 Thread David de la Hunty

Me too.

My lighting system only obeys a PC (RS232). Many attempts at PC
emulation
with numerous Macs have failed - apparently it has to be absolutely
definitely

native RS232.

I have an ancient Compaq Aero baby laptop but it won't run Win95. Anyone
with an old WinDoze (95+) laptop please email me off list if you want
to offload it...

please, nothing fancy!

Many thanks,

David

Most contents insurance does. The problem is proving that it's lightning and
not a power surge. If the insurance company proves it is a power surge then
Western Power are actually liable and have to pay for the damaged goods.
I've heard it can be a bit of a battle getting them to pay up though.

Kelly

Alternatively, do any of you want to rid yourselves of a working PC

Does anyone have one that they would consider selling?
