We're never told what the P stands for, but I like to think it was Paul.

In 1993 when my wife gave birth to twin boys, I wanted to name them Andrew
Jackson Mulik and Bernard Paul Mulik, but she disagreed. She did agree to
"Taylor" as a first name for one of them, though. My brother has a son
named Bernard -- they call him Bernie, but I bet you can all guess what _I_
call him.

End of season five

2006-03-11 Thread Janet Anderson
Awhile back I posted a message in response to Joe's concern about being
depressed once he came to the end of season five, knowing that it was the end
of Barney as a regular character. Well, Joe, I'm going to have to follow my
own advice because I finished my season five set a couple days ago and admit
that my spirits flagged a bit afterward. But it's so nice to know that I have
the whole first five seasons sitting there on the shelf and that at any time I
can pop in a DVD and enjoy Barney all over again!

I was disappointed to realize that Barney does not appear in the last two
episodes. I can understand their reasoning in not including him in the last
show, since they were introducing Jerry Van Dyke's character, but to leave
Barney out of those episodes when they knew this was Don's last season with the
show just doesn't seem right somehow. I have always wondered why they didn't
write a special episode explaining Barney's departure from Mayberry. I think
the end of season five would be easier to take if there were some sort of
farewell to Barney and a tying up of loose ends.

I'm not sure why, but those last two shows of season five seem to have a
different feel to them--more like the color episodes than the B&W's. It's not
just that Barney doesn't appear. I can't quite put my finger on it, but when I
viewed them, I felt like I was already into season six. Anyone else have that
reaction?

Gavin McDarren (or Something Like That)

2006-03-11 Thread John W. Sasser
Re: I'm pretty sure you were, as we wouldn't have missed something like that
on the list (since Gavin appeared in two episodes). Sounds like your friend
had him confused with Darrin McGavin, who did die the day after his "No
Deposit No Return" co-star, Don Knotts.

Yes, those two are always getting confused. Why, even on the way to the
funeral last Sunday, my spouse once referred to him as Gavin. And what's
worse, during the eulogy, co-star (and close friend) Jack Grinnage even came
dangerously close to calling him "Gavin McLeod" before he caught himself!

Them names is tricky!

Wak of Fame Star

2006-03-11 Thread MICHAEL CREECH
Having been involved in Don Knotts getting nominated for his Star on the
Walk of Fame, I can shed a little light on that subject. The celebrities
themselves do not pay for the Star, but whoever nominates the celebrity is
responsible for a $15,000.00 fee. By the way, Don Knotts star was the first
to have the $15,000 fee, prior to that, the fee was $7,500.00. Whenever
someone nominates a celebrity, then if the Walk of Fame committee selects
that celebrity as a recipient, that's when the fee is due. In Don Knotts
case, I helped another person collect donations from both celebrities and
fans to pay for half and TV LAND paid the other half. Unfortunately, the
other person had promised to send photo's of Don receiving his Star to
everyone that contributed $5 or more, but he never got around to doing that.

Hey,
Just wondering, in regard to Barney's middle name. Someone mentioned it
being Bernard P. Fife and Barney referring to his middle name as being
Tibbs.
Could it be the "P" is silent ??? Ptibbs ??? (just kidding! As if we didn't
have enough confusion on the subject!)

don't like about Hollywood these days but there are still good movies if
you pick and choose. A few my daughters and I have gone to see are Ron

wonderful documentary for children and adults) and "Walk The Line" about
Johnny Cash's life. Mary Grace in Georgia

Gavin McLeod

2006-03-11 Thread Ken Anderson
Thanks to the many friendly folks who emailed me to let me know that Gavin
McLeod is alive and well. I bet that rumor of his demise was started at
Floyds. You know how those gossiping men are. He probably put too much
water in his bathtub on the Love Boat and the next thing you know they had
him falling overboard and drowning.

Barney's Midldle Name

2006-03-11 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Have found at least three references to Barneys middle name, in the episode
"Class Reunion" the year book had Barney's middle name as Melton, in episode "a
Plaque for Mayberry, Andy responded with I thought your middle name was
"Oliver", when Barney says his middle name is Tibbs, and the old reference of
Barnard P. Fife. Who knows what the name for the "P" was? I ordered season
two, hope it is as good as season one is. Season one's digital quality is
outstanding. Bill from the Desert
