hello from snowy Nashville

2016-01-25 Thread Bentle, Margaret
Hello from Nashville.

I hope everyone that was caught in this snow is safe. Friday morning driving
home I saw the biggest snowflakes that I have ever seen.
Not just big snowflakes, but wet. All that wet snow turned to ice, I would
rather have snow than ice. I don't care where you are from YOU can't drive on
ice.
I've had former co-workers who are from the north say "I can drive on
anything". They just don't understand ice and the effects it has on brakes
(brakes are useless on ice).

No snow in Mayberry between 1960-1968, not sure about the weather conditions
before or after those years.
In the Christmas episode we are given to believe that it was cold, from
everyone wearing heavy coats, scarves and hats.
We do see water on the street when Ben Weaver is taking the court house bench.
I think one of the funniest scenes on that episode is when Opie took off his
hat and that red-hair stands-up with all that static.
Also Opie is also trying to take off his gloves by using the method of pulling
them with his teeth.

I have the "Andy and Don" book and no I haven't read it yet. Knew it was
written by Don's brother-in-law.

Can't wait to watch some TAGS this coming week.

Margaret: I already live in Nashville.

p.s. Anyone who is still dealing with snow, "Let's be careful out there."

Last night's episode

2016-01-25 Thread Marguerite Marshall
Don't it just clench you right in the heart to see Barney disparaging Rafe
Hollister's singing in the first quarter of the show, only to support him once
the mayor decided Rafe was not to represent Mayberry in the musicale? Barney
could have been portrayed as a poor sport throughout but he wasn't and that's
why we love him. Good old Barney, bless his heart, he can't sing. He just can't
sing. But he isn't too much of a sore loser.

Mr. Hanover and Aunt Bee

Why would Roger need Andy's blessing to marry Aunt Bee?  I think it should be
up to her, not Andy.  Just thinkin' out loud.

I've always wondered this little tidbit. In "Aunt Bee's Romance", when
Andy and Roger Hanover were on the porch talking about whether he might
marry Aunt Bee, and Roger said that he would honor Andy's sentiments about
marrying Aunt Bee, and he said he might go on to Florida.if he only had the
money. He says, "I don't know why my regular check hasn't been
forwarded."Why would he expect that when he was only there for a day or
two?
How would the post office know to forward his check to Andy's house?

When I was growing up, people had their mail forwarded when they traveled to a
post office, not to someone's house. It's called "General Delivery" and you
just go to the post office and pick it up. Maybe he started his forwarding
early enough that his mail should arrive before him? Just guessing on that,
since we know he had no check to be delivered and why we didn't see him go to
the post office.

RE: Mayberry on X-Files

2016-01-25 Thread Harriet Browder
In case anyone is following the new X-Files series on Fox on Sunday nights,
here is a blurb from X-Files Trivia. Original run, 4th Season, episode "Home."
I used to watch but missed this episode. The things you don't know.

3. The Andy Griffith Show
“Home,” a fourth-season episode of The X-Files, is both its most popular and
its most controversial. It was the first episode to issue a viewer discretion
warning and Fox later pulled it from the repeat schedule due to graphic
content. Despite its reputation, the episode — about a backwoods family
protecting a disturbing secret — actually contains several references to the
much happier (and less graphic) Andy Griffith Show. Scully refers to the
idyllic town they’re investigating as “Mayberry” and the local sheriff is named
Andy Taylor.
