Jurisdiction
Hi Gang!! Regarding the location of the cabin and Andy and Barneys visit, I think it was far away, out of the county. However the take I always took on that is that Andy was there to VERIFY that he had married Charlene and Dud to Ernest T as Justice of the Peace in Mayberry, not to arrest Ernest for his matrimonial efforts. Andy even brought along a copy of the license to prove it. Up where the Darlings lived they used the circuit preacher to do the marrying deed instead of Andy doing it again. Just a thought!! Pickles for the Road
But remember, Barney didn't pass out pickle juice to the motorists. He was actually giving them Kerosene :) Might have helped if they ran out of gas :) Mike Peacock --original post-- Even though I have ever eaten a pickle when I was hot, it would work fine for relief of heat exhaustion.? See its the saline or salt in the pickle that would work.? Instead of salt tablets which has an effect on the body and blood pressure, the salt that the pickles are soaked in would be absorbed in the body quicker and thus relieve the heat exhaustion better than for the tablets to be digested then go throughout the body.? When Barney was handing out the jars of pickle, it seemed like it might have been summertime, so back then when air conditioners in cars were scarce, Barney helped relieve the heat.? Especially that one guy from Portland, Oregon who had to drive all the way back across the Rockies. :) ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

SONG QUESTION
Hi Gang - The song is called "One for my Baby" and goes like this. One For My Baby It's a quarter to three, There's no one in the place except you and me, So, set 'em up Joe, I've got a little story you ought'a know, We're drinking my friend, To the end of a brief episode, Make it one for my baby and one more for the road. I got the routine, So put another nickel in the machine, I'm feelin so bad, I wish you'd make the music dreamy and sad, Could tell you a lot But you've got to be true to your code, Make it one for your baby and one more for the road. You'd never know it, But buddy, I'm kind of poet And I've gotta lotta things to say. And when I'm gloomy, You simply gotta listen to me, Until it's talked away. Well, that's how it goes And Joe, I know you're anxious to close, So thanks for the cheer, I hope you don't my bending your ear, The torch that I've found, Must be drowned or it soon might explode, Make it one for my baby And one more for the road. 50 Great TV Icons.
Hi Gang, Not sure where Andy is on the list of 50, but apparently not in the top ten. I got this from one of my news sources... Undated) -- Legendary late-night TV host Johnny Carson tops "Entertainment Weekly's" list of the "50 Great TV Icons." He hosted NBC's "The Tonight Show" from 1962 to 1992. Carson is followed on the list by "I Love Lucy" star Lucille Ball, talk show host Oprah Winfrey, comedian-actor Bill Cosby and TV news legend Walter Cronkite. Carole Burnett, Mary Tyler Moore, Jerry Seinfeld, Homer Simpson of the long-running show "The Simpsons" and Dick Clark round out the top ten. The TV Land channel and "Entertainment Weekly" will present a two-hour special, "The 50 Greatest TV Icons," this Friday at 8 p.m. Eastern. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://wbmutbb.com/mailman/listinfo/wbmutbb_wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
What Does This Mean?????????????????
I got this message three times. All I can say is "OH LAND" Mike This is from the episode MIND OVER MATTER, where Goober thinks his back is hurt. When Opie and Aunt Bee are trying to help him into her car to take him to their house, he keeps saying what sounds like, "OH LAND, OH LAND!" So I put the tv on closed captioning and sure enough it had him saying that. What does that mean? I have heard people say LAND A GOSHEN or MY LANDS to express excitement, but OH LAND Any ideas? Hi Gang, FOUND IT After some searching and goodl ole Google Earth, the town is actually spelled Heckmondwike and NOT with an E as in Eckmond Look it up, it's in the northern part of England, northeast of Liverpool. QUOTES GALORE
Hi Gang, Well the quote thread is a fun one for sure. A few of my fav's from key characters Barney in Pickle Story -- the line about kerosene cucumbers. Something like "I don't know how I can face the future, knowing there's 12 quarts of these kerosene cucumbers in it. Andy my hearts just not in it.." Andy replies "It's not your heart we need, just your stomach.." Andy, especially in earlier episodes would often say "that's an OUTSTANDING idea" And one of my very favorites is when they are holding the rummage sale for the scolby house fund. Rafe hollister is holding a gadget and pumping its handle, buys it and asks Andy what it is. Andy doesn't know and ole Rafe says "I don't know either but I always wanted one..." No one commented so I assumed there was no interest, but even so, actions speak louder than words, RIGHT?
