While watching a local program today the host was interviewing Tuwanda
Coleman, who is retiring from co-hosting another local show. Retiring after
41 years at News Channel 5 in Nashville.
Ms. Coleman was talking about doing interviews with Don Knotts and Betty
Lynn, she said she loved watching The Andy Griffith Show. She said that was
one of the biggest thrills of her career.

First, to those folks who wrote in with all those TAGS names for their
pets - thanks for sharing that - especially Ben from West Virginia. Really
clever and fun to read.

As far as Barney being a WWII veteran - I'm pretty sure during "Quiet Sam"
in Season 1, they talked about serving in the Army during the Korean War -
which definitely would fit the timeline for graduating in 1945.

Barney could have graduated from high school in May 1945, immediately

since he said he served in France during the war. As Clara once said, "It's

I can think of 5 episodes where Barney gets intoxicated whether it be

Keeper of the flame
Barney and the Governor
The Darling Baby
Up in Barney's Room
Alcohol and Old Lace

I just read about that big armored truck robbery last week outside of Los
Angeles - wow. The two guards went into the restaurant for a bite to eat
with nobody covering the truck during their break. The thieves broke into
the truck and took millions in jewelry and gold. If Barney, Gomer, and Andy
were on duty it never would've happened.

P.S. to Elizabeth in GA from last week: the first person that came to mind
as a returning "guest" was Jon Lormer (a/k/a Parnell Rigsby, Tate Fletcher,
and Fletch Dilbeck) - he was very good in all those roles.

Barney reciting the preamble to the Constitution

2021-08-31 Thread Elizabeth Busby
While watching Andy holding the book on Barney while he recites the
Preamble, we are all aware of Barney's hair. It came to me that since they
only used one camera they had to shoot the same scene several times. The
hair was a side effect of this method. I'm sure that side effect is what
caused many of the visual mistakes we have seen throughout the show. I
think it also added to the humor for us now.

Barney, badgeless (trained noticing)

While watching "Dogs, Dogs, Dogs" this morning, I noticed that after the
"giraffes are selfish" scene, wgen they return from retrieving the dogs,
Barney doesn't have his badge on, and it's missing for the remainder of the
episode, until the epilogue, when it's back on. He's wearing it during the
giraffes scene. You can also clearly see the outline of a pack of
cigarettes in his pocket.

I'm really surprised the state inspector didn't notice. He must have been
too preoccupied with the dogs to really be inspectin'.

The alley is behind the courthouse, where Ben Weaver stands on boxes to peer
into the jail cell in the Christmas Story. It has a stair well going
underground where we see Otis come out of (possibly more than once) and
where they used it in Star Trek. I think the roof layout changed depending
on the situationa situation is what we have.

Now, for another situation entirely, when we see Andy walk around the corner
in the Christmas Story to confront whoever is making mischief noises, he
comes from the angle of which would put him approaching Ben from the "no
alley" / Barber Shop side of the courthouse curious, curious.

thought he went with Floyd as he was outside when Andy went for a smoke but I
watched it again and Floyd said sorry he was late so it’s still a mystery any

There was a story on the news yesterday about an explosion at a hospital in

That is true, but I think it's just because Don Knotts portrayed that so well
and was so very funny doing it that the writers probably tried to come up with
story lines where Barney could get gassed. They knew it would be good for many

Barney getting a snoot full.

2017-04-06 Thread dleone
I enjoy the different list of episodes members come up with. So here is one I
was thinking about. Something that you would think would rarely happen seems to
happen to Barney quite a bit. That is getting accidently gassed ( as Andy would
say). Some episodes off the top of my head: When Barney met the governor, When
he was asked to leave his boarding house, when Ottis sued the county, When the
Darlings tried to marry off Opie, I believe the episode where Opie and his
friends were accused of burning down a barn. Anymore I’m missing?

Andy and Barney Early Jobs

2017-02-18 Thread Ken Anderson
According to TAGS episodes, we know that Andy and Barney grew up together
in Mayberry and then graduated from Mayberry Union High. We also know that
they both served in the army. However, then we know basically nothing
about what either of them did until they were in the sheriff department in
1960. Of course Andy had gotten married about five years prior to that and
had been sheriff for a short time, but there is about a ten year or so time
span that is unaccounted for.

So my question to you is this. What kind of jobs do you think Barney and
Andy had between the times that they were in the army and when they joined
the sheriff's department?

I don't recall this ever being discussed before. I imagine they both
returned to Mayberry when discharged from the army, so what did they then
do?

Although I am not citing specific episodes without Barney (there are many

to give honorable mention to the writers (and probably Andy Griffith) for
keeping Barney's name in

loud to the amusement
and enjoyment of Goober, Floyd, and Opie. I thought that was a very considerate

Barney Runs for Sheriff

2016-12-19 Thread Brian Kaufman
Today I watched an episode from Season 5, Barney Runs for Sheriff.  In that
episode Andy is contemplating taking an executive job offer from his friend Ed
Crumbpacker.  I find it very odd that Andy does not file a petition to run for
Sheriff before he is offered the executive job from his friend.  It seems that
Andy was "putting the cart before the horse".  Andy could have easily withdrawn
his petition, if he was indeed offered the executive job.  For Andy to assume
he had the job and not to complete a petition for Sheriff was really strange
considering Andy is normally very analytical when it comes to decision making.

I hope all our WBMUTBB subscribers have a very Merry Christmas and a joyous and

Andy and Barney in the city (Where?)

2015-10-11 Thread Joe McSparin
A couple of things with regard to the Oregon discussion from earlier.

1. In the episode Barney and the choir same season but earlier episode,
Andy refers to the wanted flyers from Raleigh. This establishes that their
location is North Carolina prior to the City episode.

2. In the Big city episode he tells Aunt Bee they would only be gone for 2
days.

3. I recall from some trivia picked up somewhere that the map behind
Andy's desk is actually of Iowa, showing that they would often just use
props or backdrops that don't always exactly fit.

Just my two cents worth, but I'm always willing to take change back :-)

Barney' Chants

2014-11-21 Thread Victor Friskey
I don't get on here very often and I don't claim to be a top notch "Trained
Noticer."But what I discovered yesterday may be the mother lode of Notices.I
was watching my DVD episode of "The Jinx"...where Barney claims Henry
Bennettwill ruin the fishing contest if he goes with Andy and Barney. In the
episode barneyrecites three supposedly good luck chants.
"Come fish come, come fish come, Sam's at the gate with a frosted cake, Come
fish come"
"Fly away buzzard, fly away crow, way down south where the winds don't blowRub
your nose and give two winks, and save us from this awful jinx"
"Wink'um Pink'um, nodamus rex, protect us all from the man with the hex."
Now knowing Barney he wasn't superstitious, just cautious. But I think if we
reallystudy these chants we can see it wasn't Henry Bennett being a jinx but
barney's chantsthat sunk Andy's boat.
Notice the first chant it has 13 four letter word...13=an unlucky numberNotice
the second chant it also has 13 four letter words...13=an unlucky numberNotice
the third chant it has 13 words...13= an unlucky number
So it wasn't the jinx of Henry Bennett that sunk Andy's boat it was the three
(un)luckychants by Barney Fife.
I just thought you ought to know

Dave Ramsey/ Barney Fife

2014-10-25 Thread kel4par

A few days ago there was a Mayberry reference on The Dave Ramsey Show. If
anyone
is unfamiliar with this program, it is a radio show where folks call in with
questions about money.

A caller wanted to know Dave's opinion on homeowners' associations. His
response was that most of the time they're fine, but once in a while you'll get
one with a "Barney Fife" in charge, in other words, someone who abuses their
limited authority and makes everybody miserable with their nitpicking attention
to every minor regulation.

I wonder what Dave would think about the financial habits of certain folks in
Mayberry? Such as Barney trying to sell real estate, Aunt Bee trying to save
money by buying a large quantity of beef, or a stranger turning up with a
treasure map trying to convince locals to invest in his scheme.

Paul Mulik

Well Paul, I give Dave kudos for calling him Fife instead of Fice for starters.
Secondly I suspect Dave's council to any of them would be "get out of debt
first and foremost".

Besmirching Andy and Barney

2014-10-01 Thread Ken Anderson
Yesterday I posted a reference to Mayberry that was in a mystery I am
reading. Well folks, I am about to the end of the book when another
reference to Mayberry appeared. And this one really has me tensed. The
author actually besmirched the sheriff's department of Mayberry. Here is
the exert.

"You think I'm killing those people?" I asked.

"Zero possibility."

The definitive answer surprised me.

"Why?"

"Who do you think you're dealing with, Mayberry PD"

Now if that isn't besmirching the good name of Andy and Barney, I don't
know what does. Now if that author ever shows his face here in Eau Claire,
you can be sure I will challenge him to a duel at high noon. And it won't
be with any blame book.

Ken, I agree that this would have been unusual, especially for the time. One

We've been having some problems with our cable and internet service. A
technician from the cable company came out and fixed the problem by,
seriously, putting in bigger wires. Barney was way ahead of his time.

BARNEY SLEEPING AT THE TAYLORS

2014-03-11 Thread Bob Castrucci
Not to make a big moulage out of it, but Barney was seen upstairs in a bedroom
at the Taylors...with his suitcase when he barricaded the door with the
dresser because an escaped convict had threatened him"I'll get you for this
Deputy"...at least that's what my bucket is saying. I sure am
enjoying all these trivia questions...by the way.keep up the good work
everyone. Actually, I have a trivia question of my own. I watched an episode
the other day (Aunt Bee and Mr. Goss) where Otis lit a cigarette inside the
courthouse and then threw the match on the floorand later in the same
episode, i saw Andy light a cigarette on the front porch, and then just threw
the match down. Made me think of quite a few other occasions where cigarettes
and matches were just thrown on the ground or actually in the courthouse. Any
thoughts about this???

Just to make sure that everything is official and alland we do like to get
the official verification..Chester Goode was never a deputy for Matt

never actually a deputy.

What Andy, Barney & Aunt Bee drove

2014-02-14 Thread Janet Anderson
>>>Here are some questions that might "drive" you crazy! Name 4 different
cars that Andy drove; name 4 different cars that Barney drove and name 3
modes of transportation that Aunt Bee operated.<<<

Let's see--Barney drove the squad car, the car he bought from Mrs. Lesch,
Floyd's car, and Malloy's car (while pulling the trailer behind it). Aunt Bee
operated her car, an airplane, and a tandem bike. I'm still working on what
Andy drove. I can't remember four different cars. Of course, he drove the
squad car. I'm thinking he drove Aunt Bee's car to Raleigh that time he met up
with the heavyset, grim, 40-ish lawyer lady. That would be two. But right now
I can only think of two other vehicles, and they were pick-up trucks--Goober's
truck and the one he was going to take Aunt Bee in at the end of the very first
episode.

Barney Cracks Another Walker Robbery

2014-01-14 Thread Ken Anderson
Just heard over my police scanner that Barney has cracked another robbery
case at Walker Drug Store.

It appears a man was apprehended yesterday afternoon after Miss Ellie
called Barney to say she notice a great deal of hand soap was missing.

Turns out the perpetrator Barney arrested was a klepterminerac with a hand
washing compellsion. When asked why he stole the soap, the robber said,
"Cause I am rotten."

Now here is a true story. At the supermarket where I work we have a
regular customer who comes in about every two weeks. The only thing he eve
buys is shampoo. He always buys between 20 and 30 bottles each time. I
asked him once if he buys for a group home or another facility and he said
no that he uses it all himself. I am serious, he does this every two or
three weeks all year long. Now he definitely must have a hair washing
compellsion.

Andy & Barney cousins

2014-01-09 Thread Janet Anderson
>>>But peoples answers brought up a question. I know Barney referred to Andy as
>>>a cousin on the first episode but never again, right? I wonder why.<<<

I saw an interview one time with Sheldon Leonard, the producer of TAGS. He was
asked about this, and his answer was that it was just a throwaway line used
strictly for the joke that this scene was building up to (Barney thanking Andy
for hiring him as his deputy in the first episode). Mr. Leonard said it was
only mentioned that one time and then forgotten about. However, he obviously
didn't recall that it was mentioned in a couple other early episodes. So it
was stated more than once, but I don't think it ever came up later in the
series. It would seem, based upon remarks both Andy and Barney made, that past
the first season, we were to think of them as only good friends and not
relatives. In fact, in one episode I believe they say that they had been
friends since fourth grade. If they were cousins, they would have known each
other since very early in life, I would think.

Scene with Andy and Barney in squad car

2013-11-07 Thread Janet Anderson
I'm watching "Man in the Middle" from season five, and I just noticed
something. There's a scene where Barney is picking Andy up in the squad car in
front of Andy's house, and Andy tries to patch things up with Barney over the
argument they had concerning Thelma Lou and Helen. They sit in the squad car
and talk with the doors closed. However, when the camera moves in tighter,
it's apparent that it is shooting through an open door, not through the window
of a closed door. If you look carefully, you can see the inside edges of the
door frame, and on Barney's side, you can even see a little bit of the open
door in the top left corner. So, when the camera is on Barney's side, his door
is open and Andy's is closed, and when it's on Andy's side, his door is open
and Barney's is closed. But, of course, the viewer is supposed to think that
both doors are closed the whole time. It's a very minor thing, but I just
never noticed it before now, and I'm always excited to notice something n
 ew on TAGS.
