I just saw Ottis as Santa on the Brady bunch.

I also saw James (the guitar player) on In the heat of the night. I do not know
when that show first aired but he was grey haired grey mustache and a few
pounds heavier in

Thank you Brian and Margaret for your kind words about my James Best

from him that is Pilot Mt. and the squad car. He painted the Pilot

I really enjoyed reading Ken Anderson's article on James Best visiting The

I was amazed at how many movies Mr. Best made and with celebs like Jimmy
Stewart, Paul Newman and Burt Reynolds. He acted with so many wonderful
actors and actresses during his career. My wife and I were so fortunate
to have met him at Mayberry Days a few years ago and to have gotten his
autograph.

A few years ago we stayed at the Taylor Home Inn in Wisconsin shortly
after Mr. Best and his wife had stayed there. We stayed in the same

WWII James Best movie!

2014-05-03 Thread Albert A

Earlier in the week I saw a heavy-duty James Best film on TCM. Verboten!
(1959) stars Best as a U.S. soldier in the closing days of WWII in Germany.
After the war, he remains stationed in occupied Germany and becomes involved
with a woman, which goes against the policy regarding fraternization with the
defeated population. The opening scenes are action packed with Best and his
troops, trying to root out a sniper as they go through the streets of the
blasted out town. Its also quite obvious that the town is actually the set of
Mayberry. The courthouse building stands out in particular, especially in the
opening scenes. A nazi swastika flag is hanging from a pole standard of this
building. Later, an American flag is dispayed after Germany is defeated and the
U.S. is using the building as an official command headquarters. A true must
see film for any and all James Best fans!!

Ken, I'm sorry about your cobbywobbles. They got something over at the
drugstore that'll keep 'em off of ya. One fell on me last week.

I saw a movie yesterday on TCM that had none other than our own James Best/Jim
Lindsey. He played a patient in a mental hospital. He was in the movie here and
there throughout, but he had one scene where the camera was only on him and he
was the only one talking for close to ten minutes. It was done all in one take
and let me tell you the actor of the man came out. We are used to seeing him in
comedy roles, but I don't think there is one dramatic actor in the world who
could have done that part any better. For you Jim Lindsey fans it's called
Shock Corridor. It's a little weird at times but if it comes on again, you
can record it and fast forward through the scenes that he is not in.

Do you realize I can honestly say that James Best and I slept in the very

the Taylor Home Inn should put up a sign over the bed that says, James Best
Slept Here. But then I would demand equal time. But knowing Marsha the
way I do, she would probably put up a sign over the toilet and say Ken
Anderson Sat Here. By the way, we will be spending another night at the

When we visited with James Best last week he told us he appeared in some of
the old Alfred Hitchcock Hour programs. I found one he was in this weekend
and watched it. It was a really treat because our good friend Goober was
also in it in a rather dramatic role. The lead role was played by Mr. Haney
from Green Acres. If you would be interested in seeing it just go to
www.hulu.com and search for Alfred Hitchcock's The Jar. On a side note,
today is our 40th anniversary. Sure wish good old Newton Monroe would pass
through town so I could do some shopping. Thought about a septic tank, but
we are on the city services so can't use that.

Gypsy Blood and James Best

2010-07-27 Thread Ken Anderson
There is not one drop of gypsy blood flowing through my veins. That Gustav
is pure Swedish. My daddy came from Sweden and his name was Carl Gustav,
which just happens to be the name of the current King of Sweden.

James Best told us that he does not play the guitar at all so when it came
time to film the scenes with him playing the guitar on TAGS he told them he
would be able to finger the strings so that no one would be able to tell.
And he was right. He said too how funny it was that his electric guitar was
never plugged in when he played.

He also told us the story of how he got his dog Flash on the Dukes series.
He wanted a dog for the show but they would not get one as it would cost
$500 a day to have a trainer for him. So Jim went to the animal shelter and
adopted Flash. He even made him a little dressing room.

He was just full of funny stories about his experiences.

re:Herb Ellis and James Best playing guitar hotlicks

2008-11-02 Thread Jim and Sheila Henderson
Your writing about Herb Ellis' playing those wonderful hot licks on the guitar
...that miracle guitar that got at least 3 sounds plus swapping between being
electric or acoustic.., reminded me of something.
A few years ago, I caught the end of Fred Sanford(Sandford Son) on TV Land
while waiting for another show; The whole family was sitting around singing
carols and a white man was playing the guitar; he had his back and sometimes
his side face to the camera. IT stirred something inside of me and I instantly
thought of Jim Linsey (sp?) playing that magical multi-sound-guitar.
The man made it sound like warm honey ; I waited for the credits; sure
enough, IT was Ellis, so I DID get to see who was the guitar genius behind Jim
Linsey's guitar playing;
(That HOT electric sound out of that acoustic ALWAYS gets my husband and he
always says somethingit is a running family joke!)
Kinda like Mr. Darlin's jug that made all kinds of sounds

James Best at Dukesfest

James Best will return to Dukesfest in Nashville, TN June 2-3. He will
sign autographs both days. This event is full of fun family things. I
went last year and if you are a Dukes fan there is no other event better
or bigger. Ben Jones who played Cooter puts it on at the State
Fairgrounds. Most the stars of that show are there with hundreds of
General Lee cars. James who is also a star of many western movies and
a great artist of course was TAGS Jim Lynsey. Some of his art is always
with him and for sale also. I had always wanted to meet James and I
have now seen him 3 times. He was right up there with Don Knotts as the
people I wanted to meet and I met Don once also. You can get info on
Dukesfest at www.cootersplace.comI would put The Dukes of Hazzard
