Hola viejos amigos, greetings from Mexico!!

Long time not writing to this list... but I keep receiving your
discussions; it's nice to see this community still around ;-)

Abusing of your kindness and experience, could you please let me know
you opinion on FileMaker database and tools?
I may be facing a project with those soon, but do not know if it worth
to learn it...

In advance, thanks for your comments.

Hi Dino!

Nice to see you again.

I did a FM project last year. I think it's usefulness depends on the
size of the project. The reason we went with it was cross platform
compatible desktop apps (runtime applications) that the clients
could deploy without a copy of FM on every PC. Also no online data
was a requirement.

I hated the tools because to do anything you need to click buttons.
The UI manipulation is quite clunky too. There's no text mode
where you can just edit things. You can't make custom UI widgets if
you need them.

Personally I will never take on a FM project again. Compared to a
D2W project it just feels like a tremendous waste of time to
accomplish the same things (or less).

But what do you think of CocoaWO now

My opinion Apple needs to incorporate and brilliant enterprise web

Can't remember the exact years but:

1990 I started with NeXTstep on a black box

and then the horror began:

Operating Systems:
- NeXTstep on several plattforms
- OpenStep
- Black Hardware dies
- YellowBox (anyone remenber?)
- YellowBox died
- Next buys apple

WO:

- Started with WO 3.5
- WebScript dies
- Objective-C dies (I think 2001)
- Last Windows Version WO 5.2

Now: Announcement OS X JVM will die

I think we will survive that too!

I just wonder why they like to kill so many good tools...
but yea, we will survive...
in an iPad, as Chuck said, but will survive...

with the advise of my e-friend Daniel Mejia (mil gracias ;^), I
downloaded the latest version of WO from ADC, and of the all-in-

everything runs smoothly...

I've uploaded two new tutorials to the Wiki.

1) Using multiple versions of WebObjects with WOLips :

2) Getting Started with Direct to Java Client:

Re: Large dataset for RDBMS/EOF tests

2009-06-19 Thread Dino Strausz

Hola Pascal!
I have a huge database (15 years of history of a manufacturer
business) in Sybase

However, most of it is confidential and before it can be publicly
applied it needs to be adjusted...

some SQLs here and there...

let me see if this is easy enough...

This is a bit off-topic, but does anyone have a good large example
dataset to test different RDBMS, mainly for performance? In fact, I
think it would be nice to have such a thing with a EOModel so that not
only people can test the RDBMS but also different settings for EO
fetching (batch faulting, etc.). Let's just say that the Movies
database is not big enough to do a suitable test... :-)

To: webobjects-dev@lists.apple.com

Hello,

I would like to use EOF in a pure Java application and not from
within WO.
I have searched and not found any good information on this topic.
It seems
that I should be possible but all of the code that I have written
keeps
tanking and if it cannot find the model. Is there any information
on this

subject available?

Thanks

[OT] Tiger on MacBook Aluminium

2009-06-13 Thread Dino Strausz

Hola t...@s!

Does anyone, here in this so kind list, knows how to install Tiger
into a new MacBook Aluminum?

Someone told me that Tiger cannot be installed in those machines which
came out with Leopard!

Is this really true?

I really need my Tiger on my new machine (my Pismo died recently)...

Do you think that the installer DVD can be hacked to this end?

Please help!!!

Are the projects Nib-based Java Client? Otherwise a transition to
WOLips is not all that painful and the tools are so much better.

I have, essentially, three kind of apps: EOF/Cocoa are the most of
them; also, I have some D2W and D2JC.

I want to try JC and D2W from the new tools, but I had not found the
time to learn, nor a simple example...

Do you know if there is some new?
maybe at the WOCOM site?

The EOF/Cocoa part of the project, is another story... I may end up
using AJRDatabase frameworks...

D2W is very much alive. We use it in all of our apps, there are
D2WApp templates included in WOLips, and there will be several
