For some random stats -- of the about 40 shirts that have been sold
since the new round of shirts went up, only TWO PEOPLE have been
daring enough to buy WO AIMF shirts :) So you are in a very
exclusive club. I should have but a "Member's Only" logo on it, too.

Jerry,

tacow == Toronto Area Cocoa and WebObjects Developer Group

It may be a bit of a convoluted acronym, but it's easy to pronounce,
and, since we keep it lowercase, it's easy to type. Besides,
www.tacow.org was available cheap. :-)

I think that the two web sites (whywebobjects.xxx and .../wiki/
Programming:WebObjects) should serve two very different purposes.

The whywebobjects site has, and should continue to, run as an
advocacy site. It's content should include lists of (& links to)
successful deployments, testimonials, comparisons and evidence of
superiority over competing technologies (e.g. RoR) and such.

The .../wiki/Programming:WebObjects pages should focus on
educational content. They should include topics showing how to do
things in WO, educational FAQ lists, resolutions to common
problems and such.

Although I think there's room for overlap between the two (and I
certainly believe that they should link to one another), I also
believe that if either attempts to fulfill the objectives of the
other, it will weaken it in its primary purpose. They should
remain separate and distinct.

Yes, that should probably be at the very top of a list of resources.
Also, in keeping with the domain name, there should be an advocacy/

Hi,

Objectfarm is slowly getting out of the WO business. Still the Wocoas
are pretty healthy here and take place two times a year. Normally,
there are about 30-50 people attending.

The next meetup will be held by my company - LogicUnited GmbH - in
Munich. The exact date is still determined, but the most probable
date is 29th Sept. As this is the last weekend of the Octoberfest
(worth a visit by itself:) we'll get this pinned down next week so
people can make their reservations.

For more info, either write me or (recommended) join the wocoa
mailing lists:

Re: Event update ; notice

2006-08-02 Thread Miguel Arroz

Hi!

I don't know about worldwide, but I would be very interested in
creating an european WO community (could be part of a worldwide
community, but the main focus is to be easier to make meet-ups).

I think it's important, not only for people to meet and know they
are not alone, but to exchange knowledge and experience, and show and
promote their personal and/or professional WO-related work. Also, I
focus on Europe, because with the cheap flights that are appearing
all over the place (Vueling in Spain, Virgin Express, etc) we could
make several meet-ups a year, and people would have the opportunity
to join some of them (obviously, WWDC is a really big financial
effort for europeans, due to the flights).

I don't know anyone on Portugal, besides me and my partners, who
use WebObjects for anything (unfortunately, my country is sold to
Microsoft so-called "technologies"), but I know there are a lot of us
in Europe. There's also some german guys, ObjectFarm, that talk about
some Wocoa event (WO + Cocoa), but I sent them an email and got no
answer... I don't know if Wocoa still exists. Are you guys out there?

What do you all think (europeans for the european group, everyone
for the worldwide group)?

Yeah we are coming in Friday night and have something going on
Sunday afternoon, but we should be around Sunday night. Is this
shaping up to be WO Gather II: Electric Boogaloo?

My flight gets in at 6:30PM on Sunday. Anyone want to get in a
night of practice on Sunday?

I'm arriving Saturday, so I'm up for something on Sunday night.

Absolutely. My flight supposedly arrives at 6:59 PM - maybe if yours
is a little late and mine is early, we could share a cab?

Either case, dinner / drinks at the bear sounds good.

It looks like we'll be submitting 85 as our final head count, and
thus

we will be held to that number for our drink minimum. Again, its at
the ThirstyBear, located a little over one block east of Moscone West
in the Billar Room, from 7:30-10:30. We suggest eating up at the
Apple

event as the provided food will be meager compared to the amounts of
alcohol consumed :)

Details are always listed at http://www.global-village.net/

I'll likely be there with my yellow WebObjects shirt (Thanks
Mike for that design!) and will settle the bill at the end. Again,
expectations are $6 "at the door" to me, and drink up for yourself.
I'm sure we will easily pass the $15/person minimum. WO Drinking
contest, anybody?
