Re: [Wikimediauk-l] Wikimania 2013 - winner announced

2012-05-04 Thread Michael Peel
Indeed - we were originally planning to have multiple rooms available at the
conference, but somewhere along the line there was a miscommunication and we
only ended up with one room, hence only having one track. The Wikimania
discussion was one of the things that had to be cut back (given that the
decision on the bids is made, it was either going to need informal chat, or a
bigger meeting than a single session, anyway...).

I'm sure that there will be lots of informal discussion about it throughout the
conference (and the London wikimeet the day after), though. And having a
dedicated planning meeting for a 2014 bid sometime soon would be a good idea.

Thanks,
Mike

Well we can always discuss it in the pub after the AGM while the board are
getting to know each other. Considering planning for it started yesterday, I
don't think we're at a stage where much of a presentation can be given about it.

It was always going to be difficult for a UK bid to beat the Far East for
2013, however in 2014 Wikimania logically should come back to Europe and a
UK bid will have a much better chance.

I put a slot into the AGM agenda for it
http://uk.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=WikiConference_UK_2012&diff=19558&oldid=19557as
it was bound to be something we'd want to discuss. But it seems that
bit
has been dropped from the agenda.

It would be great to re-use as much as possible for the 2014 bid.
Hopefully we will see an improved selection process too.

I would be happy to be part of a positive review at the next London
Wikimeet if folks feel up to it. It would be neat if the new UK board
were to be prepared to make a much earlier and credible commitment to
2014 so that the selection panel could see that partnerships, delivery
team, risk management and funding were all beautifully planned, in
place and geared to go and had undergone local independent assessment.

great deal of effort into the bid.

What a shame, well done to the Hong Kong team!

On another note, I guess lots of the bid is reusable though for 2014 if
we decide to go for that?
