Re: [WISPA] Taking on an investor?

2005-08-22 Thread A. Huppenthal
Not true. Minority stakeholders are actually protected from this
behavior in many states. I think the level is 15% in Colorado. If you
aren't careful raising money you could end up with your Popsicle in a
wringer. Check investment rules. If you take money which exceeds the a
certain percentage of an individual's net worth, you could be in
trouble. If you don't disclose risks you could be in deep weeds.

You can find Angel investors - just google around for incubators or
angel investors. They can and do know how to invest and how to help your
company grow. Be prepared to sell off more of your company though as
time moves forward.

It didn't happen at the show (e.g., the show fits in 1 conference facility)
It was done the week before, and presented / released at WiNOG

Keep in mind, if it was on Bullits list, there would definitely be no
mention of WiNOG, since Bullit has taken it upon himself to censure and ban
anyone/anything related to me / CWLab / WiNOG

RE: [WISPA] Taking on an investor?

2005-08-22 Thread Brian Webster
I'll reply to that.
People with money do not have to spend it. Remember that most of all. They
can easily invest it in a conservative location and get a safe secure rate
of return. Remember they don't need to spend it so they don't need a big
rate of return on money that already don't need to spend. Still with me? Now
if they were to invest in something as risky as this, they would need one
hell of a possible gain on their investment. Remember they don't need to
spend it. For them to even talk to you about giving you some of their money
they must think it is a good idea. If they are willing to fork over their
money, they must feel they are going to be able to get a huge return to
justify their risk. So let's review. One they will get a huge return on
their investment, Two if they aren't charging you a huge interest rate,
where do you think they will get the return. Which brings us to Three, they
will take control of your company, learn all they can from you then fire you
and keep it all to themselves. Harsh but true, I'm sure there are many on
the list who know of these stories.
Now leasing doesn't look all that bad does it? At least you know the
costs up front and the rules are quite simple. Just pay your payments then
eventually you will get to keep the company and reap the benefits of your
hard work, not just hand it over to the folks who wrote the checks. If you
don't think I'm serious, try to write contracts so this can't happen and see
how fast they write the checks :-)

Like Charles said, unless it's family or friends.but even then it
can be tricky, that's a good way to lose friends.

Thank You,
Brian Webster

Subject: [WISPA] GOOGLE MAP - Adding Your WISP + New Features

Team,

UPDATE:
Single Point for Wisp is NOT on the plate - we've scrapped the idea ..
thx tom.

NEW FEATURES:
The map is pretty solid.. we CURRENTLY are adding a cool,
1) SCROLL WHEEL ZOOM feature... so a click will just be a click ...
2) Loggin For self editing...
3) State Filter

ADDING YOUR WISP:
BUT.. since the ADD URL feature is still Down...
if you want to get yourself on the map now...
http://wifi-hotspot.wirelessinternetcoverage.com/inputpreview.html
is the admin panel...
i just tested it... it works well.

HOW TO ADD YOUR WISP:
1. Make sure that you use the very LAST FORM.
2. Check, USE CURRENT GPS ON
3. under category, type, "wisp"
4. align your AP center to the cross hairs - you gotta zoom
5. Enter as much info as you can... the Address fields are now
functional
AND adding addresses will help for the state level filter

Hit enter. thx.. and please let NON Wispa.org wisps know too... so that
is map becomes popular and we all get more traffic

_

RE: [WISPA] Taking on an investor?

2005-08-22 Thread Charles Wu
FWIW...no invester (other than friends and family) worth their salt will be
willing to invest capital into the company for a minority position, as that
is basically a sure way to guarantee the loss of their money

That said, there is a fool born every day

  For those interested

Tool fully integrated into your website with your coverage areas,
we have just such a tool.  It
comes with a price; however, for Service Providers with wide coverage areas, a
sales organization, reseller channel, and an interest in reducing truck rolls,
  this tool can be invaluable.

[WISPA] GOOGLE MAP - Adding Your WISP + New Features

  Team,

  UPDATE:

Single Point for Wisp is NOT on the plate - we've
scrapped the idea .. thx tom.

  NEW FEATURES:

The map is pretty solid.. we CURRENTLY are adding a
  cool,

  1) SCROLL WHEEL ZOOM feature... so a click will just
  be a click ...

  2) Loggin For self
  editing...

  3) State Filter

  ADDING YOUR WISP:

BUT.. since the ADD URL feature is still
  Down...

if you want to get yourself on the map
  now...

  http://wifi-hotspot.wirelessinternetcoverage.com/inputpreview.html

  is the admin
  panel...

i just tested it... it works
  well.

  HOW TO ADD YOUR
  WISP:

  1. Make sure that you use the very LAST FORM.2. Check, USE CURRENT GPS ON

  3. under category, type,
  "wisp"

  4. align your AP center to the cross hairs - you
  gotta zoom

  5. Enter as much info as you can... the Address fields
  are now functional

AND adding addresses will help for the state level
  filter

Hit enter. thx.. and please let NON Wispa.org wisps know too... so that is map becomes
popular and we all get more traffic

I was thinking about three 1 1/2 inch pieces of pipe stuck in

I've got 3 8ft ground rods and will bond with #4 bare stranded

picked up a load of grade 8

Re: [WISPA] Taking on an investor?

2005-08-22 Thread Tom DeReggi
That really depends on your financial situation. Depending on how bad you
need he money and how much risk there will be to the investor will determine
the terms. Borrowing less money is rarely a benefit to the investor to get
you better terms, because the investment then becomes less lower scale with
less of a return to justify all the beaurocracy involved in negotiating the
deal.

What you will find is no one wants to buy a burn rate. No one wants to
invest in a business where all the needed employess aren't getting paid by
the existing revenues. They need to know that if they give you money, and
it sits in your bank account, it would still be there six months later if
you didn't expand, so they'd be able to get their money back. The second
the money is used for going after potential, marketing, increasing staff,
deployment of new sites without exisitng custoemrs, etc, there is
significant risk and the deal changes to the investors favor. Its hard
because to make your company look good for taxes means making it look bad
for an investor and vice versa. Investors prefer to see a company which
stands on its own with little ties financially to the owners. More so, they
want to see a clear plan of how, when, and what profit the investor should
expect a paypack. ON the far end of the spectrum, a VC, will look to find
at minimum 500% ROI in 5 years. And you usually need to be cash flow
positive for that. Sometimes taking on an investor really means taking on a
business partner not a lendor, with a loss of control or freedom. However,
if your company is at a sound stage, and you have the track record in place
to justify your proposed ROI, Investors are looking for places to put their
money, when they are probably making less than nothing with it sitting in
the bank or in the stock market.

RE: [WISPA] Rohn BX Tower

2005-08-22 Thread Jeff Mabry

Brian –

What section number will be your
bottom?  If you are using Section # 8 as the bottom then you need to use
the foundation pad recommendations for Section 8.  If so, then you are
looking to excavate for a foundation that is 5 ft 9 inches by 5 ft 9 inches and
4 ft deep.  Spec’s call for 4.9 yards of concrete at 3000 psi.
They also call for #3 rebar – top & bottom – on 12 inch centers.

Whatever section it is use the recommended
foundation specifications.

I would recommend using the concrete base
stub to attach to the tower legs.  See page 10.

Best regards,

Jeff

Re: [WISPA] Looking for...

2005-08-22 Thread J. Vogel
I am doing this without MT.. but I do have Linux running a transparent
bridge between my
customers and my core router. Use iptables to redirect (DNAT) the src IP
address web requests to
my webserver (I redirect requests to port 80 to my webservers address on
port 88) and
then have the virtual host on that web server which listens to that IP
on port 88 use
Mod_ReWrite to redirect all of the REQUEST_URIs to index.html.

Using this system, If I want to shut off a customer, all I do is enter
their assigned IP
once into IP tables, and ANY web reqests gets my index.html page. It
works for
http://yahoo.com/ and for http://yahoo.com/EERTS123X/ddd.asp/?sessid=7788

Two things to keep in mind..
1.You want to be careful about how much (possibly private) information
is put on
your web page. It may be fine to use that page to inform your customer
that they are a deadbeat, except that you cannot know which member of
the customer's family, friends, or relatives may be the first one use
the customer's
computer while visiting on vacation and be the one who gets to read about
your customer's account status. Your lawyer may have better advice.

2. It is probably a good idea to make your web page non-cacheable, so
that when
your customer does pay their bill and you re-enable their access, they don't
keep seeing your page instead of
http://yahoo.com/EERTS123X/ddd.asp/?sessid=7788

Only a CPE today, but towers always beg for more equipment. Don't skimp, you never know what you will want/need in the future.

So.those 15 94 lb bags are like 60 94 lb bags.  I had figured
I
needed 1.28 yards for the hole I dug.  But now that I have the specs
I
will see how big the hole has to be.  I will only put a CPE on
this

I dug a hole 32 inch square by 42 inches deep yesterday for a
rohn
bx
tower. It is 5 sections of 8 ft. I just got 15 bags of portland
cement

and will add my own
gravel.

I was thinking about three 1 1/2 inch pieces of pipe stuck in
the
concrete

to bolt the tower legs to. I
will

thread and put couplers on the pipe at 22 inches so they can't
move.
I've

got some re-bar to chuck down in the hole
too.

I've got 3 8ft ground rods and will bond with #4 bare stranded
wire.
I

picked up a load of grade 8
bolts,

washers, and lock washers for bolting the tower together and to

Ya, I finally understood the diagram.  I have to calculate my "w", "x",
and  "d" to figure the base.  http://www.wb0w.com/shelby/BXCBS1.htm

I beleive the recommendations for grounding are to use solid wire, not
stranded.  If you can, use #2 or larger.  The goal with grounding, if
it is for lightning protection, is to get the lowest impedance possible
to ground.  Spread the ground rods out as much as you can.  Connect
them each to the tower AND to each other.  Pick a point in that that is
your ground point and make sure everything connects to that one point.

from my Mikrotik

add src-address=172.16.7.224/27 dst-address=!64.123.108.28/32:80
protocol=tcp \
   action=nat to-dst-address=64.123.108.28 to-dst-port=80
comment="Redirect \
all 172.16.7.224/26 customers to \"Please call NoDial\" page"
disabled=no

I just have a virtual "call nodial" web site hosted on one of my
webservers. I need to put a custom 404 error page to the same page. It
works if your home page is "http://www.yahoo.com"; but not if your
homepage is "http://news.google.com/nwshp?hl=en&tab=in&q=";

You can look at http://64.123.108.28 to see what I send my deadbeat
customers to. I also send my DHCP customers there who I havent put in a
static DHCP lease for. Kind of a poor-man's hotspot.

RE: [WISPA] Looking for...

2005-08-22 Thread JNA
I have been looking to implement this as well with our MT boxes. Does anyone
have any samples? I know how to redirect an ip in the MT boxes but how do
you redirect to a specific web page? Unless you setup a web server on the ip
with a generic page just for that server you would get the main web site on
the web server ip. Now if you could go to ip/yourshutoff.html that would be
different.
