Re: [wsjt-devel] WSJT-X not recognising multiple Virtual Audio Cables

Curt..
Tnx fer ur quick note. Always fun to here from another ham who share the same
passions I soloed a c-150 in 1961 and got my private in ‘64 in HS. Got my
Airframe license in ‘66 from Teterboro School of Aeronautics and wound up in
the AF b4 I could finish my engine license. Retired from America West as an
Airbus Capt in 2006. I’ve had a chance to fly a Cub several times and enjoyed
it very much. Leadville was always a treat! I had the RV up there several times
for Bfast with another RVer but alway had to leave by 10A b4 the the DA got too
high.
I run WSJT-X along with gridtracker , an IC 7610 and a DX Commander ABV at
home. When I do POTA I use an FT 891 into a half wave vertical on a drive on
mount with a Spider pole. Works pretty well as I can set the whole station up
in the SantaFe as the rear passenger seat as the op position. Some parks I
have to activate w/o internet so I have to use a GPS dongal for time sync using
Meinberg.
The RV was fun to build. I just wish it didn’t take 12 1/2 years to build as I
had to commute to PHX to work. I’m not familiar with the VAC software but I’ll
look it up.
Hope this finds you and your family well and safe. Happy holidays and hope to
see you down the log… 73 

I need any Yaesu owners to state their rig model and whether or not

Rig split is turned on.

So 3 questions
#1 Can you make QSOs? *Yes*

As you probably may remind, I cannot use USB mode here if use hamlib

Oh, sorry Mike, I omitted the rig! It is the *YAESU FT-100*.

What I faced here is that when using F/H and split option set to
*SPLIT*, my RX VFO was moving too much off from the FOX station TX
frequency so that I couldn't receive his signal anymore.

It took me some failed attempts to discover this fact and when finally I
switched split option to *FAKE-IT*, the problem has stopped.

On the first tune/transmit cycle after starting the software, the "Enable

Re: [wsjt-devel] Yaesu rig split problems

2021-11-04 Thread Virginia Greene via wsjt-devel
Mike,

A number of radios have limited frequency response when used in Data mode
compared to USB mode.

My own Elecraft KX3 rolls off starting at about 400 Hz when used in Data mode.
With the right settings in USB mode, the low end stretches down to closer to
100 Hz. I’ve measured this, and could demonstrate it if you need proof.

Perhaps there is a setting in Data mode that gets around this, but I sure
haven’t found it. Using Data mode for FT8 would be soo much better
operationally, but alas…

I bet other radios have this or similar problems.

Yeah, there are very effective tricks to get around this. In Fox and Hound
DXpedition mode, Hounds can work around the problem by offsetting the VFO from
the nominal Fox bands. Foxes can set their TX Freq to something higher than
the default 300 Hz so that they can hear Hounds giving their reports.

There’s workarounds for all the problems. But, I bet that only a small
percentage of the WSJT-X users who focus on FT8 and FT4 operation on HF bands
even are aware of these little details.

So, that kinda ends up like this:

“The patient says, "Doctor, it hurts when I do this."
The doctor says, "Then don't do that!”

― Henny Youngman

Might not be ideal.

I have FTdx10 and split operation works as expected locally (rx VFO-A and tx
VFO-B).

I learned from the developer of RUMLogNG that VFO-B isn’t readily available to
logging software. The software can only track VFO-A regardless of which VFO is
controlling the transceiver.

I need any Yaesu owners to state their rig model and whether or not "Rig split"
works in WSJT-X or if you see flashing on the rig when Rig split is turned on.
So 3 questions#1 Can you make QSOs?#2 Does rig operation look smooth?  Should
be a little activity as freq & mode get set on both VFOs but it I'd like to
know if the display goes a little nuts when it's happening with Rx/Tx
flickering or such.

Re: [wsjt-devel] WSJT-X settings Reporting tab

2021-11-04 Thread Bill Barrett via wsjt-devel
Hello Laurie-

I finally found the "WSJT-X UDP Multicast on Loopback" on the initial
clicking of the settings tab.
Thought it was somewhere in Managing Settings. Realize now there is a
brief clue in the help file.
Maybe a picture of the whole settings tab with an arrow to the top position
would be more helpful.
I have programmed plenty of UIs, interesting to see how users trip over the
simplest of situations.
Obviously enjoying the panel options on the Call Signs Window. Terrific
app, could not operate digital without it.

Re: [wsjt-devel] Yaesu rig split problems

I can offer my FT-991 for the tests. (I have the old model, NOT FT-991A.)

I'm trying to solve rig split operation problems with Yaesu rigs and need some
Yaesu operator help...

I need any Yaesu owners to state their rig model and whether or not "Rig split"
works in WSJT-X or if you see flashing on the rig when Rig split is turned on.

So 3 questions

#1 Can you make QSOs?

#2 Does rig operation look smooth? Should be a little activity as freq & mode
get set on both VFOs but it I'd like to know if the display goes a little nuts
when it's happening with Rx/Tx flickering or such.
