After upgrade to 1.27-pre01 or 1.27-pre04 the XMail has crashing at start-up.

I using Windows Server 2008 Web SP2 with all patchs.

At bellow has some debug info.

thanks

Hi,

I have testing 1.25-pre09 for some days in the normal production server.
I have found one case when XMail resolve DNS with incorrect MX server.

Domain: ps5.com.br
XMail is trying delivery to server gordo.ps5.com.br or
sputinik.ps5.com.br (this is a NS for domain)
The correct MX server is spirit.ps5.com.br (none try for this server).
The XMail not create the DNS cache file for this domain.
I send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a webmail gmail.com account
and i receive a normal error with User unknown in local recipient
table

I have deleted the dnscache folder to confirm this.
Somebody can send test to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and report result?

Maybe a local DNS screw up on their side? Note that they have a 3600 (one
hour) TTL, that makes their stuff pretty volatile.

Ok, this is XMail trying to get the address of sputinik.ps5.com.br.
(their NS server) by using the system gethostbyname(). This uses the
system DNS infrastructure through a standard API call (gethostbyname()).
Strange. Does an nslookup on that host success on the machine where XMail
 is running?

using GLST, RBL only to tag because too many good providers are listed

Sorry, I thinked about xm-spf.pl available for download on xmailserver.org

For sure RBLs+GLST combined do a great job and it's my current choice too.
For SPF I recommend as a minimum to put spf records on you dns zones to to

I said, I stopped *using* it, not providing it for download ;)

[xmail] Re: Delivery failure report and passwords in log files

2007-04-13 Thread Ana Paula Fernandes
Hi,

To create a custom Delivery failed you need to create a simple
script to change the email, with filters.post-data.tab or other.
Combine filters.post-data.tab with Local Mailer
(http://www.xmailserver.org/Readme.html#xmail_local_mailer).

Davide (and all other list members ofcourse),

Is it possible to change the Delivery failed email?
I really like all those details (return codes, timestamps), but the average
end user probably had no idea what the mail is about.
It would be nice if I could change at least the first part of the message,
best would be to use some template with special tags to include from/to
 addresses.
If that is difficult, why not make XMail run a simple shell script with some
arguments that creates a failure report? :)

By the way, does XMail still show plain passwords in POP3 and CTRL logs? and
is it possible to only show the encrypted/no password at all in the logs?

I reverted the thread stack code. For ppl using Linux+NPTL, the best
solution to avoid the 350 threads cap on 32 bit systems is to do a
`ulimit -s 128` (I out it in the xmail startup script).
In pre05 I made the DNS error message to became a message level, and hence
do not show up in the Event Log.
The big change remains the DNS lookup code. On @xmailserver.org is working
 like a charm so far.

times in 24 hours period. I use Windows 2000 SP4, the Event Viewer

Some small information, i have test my domain with www.dnsreport.com
and i receive a alert:

WARNING: One or more of your mailservers does not accept mail in the
domain literal format ([EMAIL PROTECTED]). Mailservers are technically
required RFC1123 5.2.17 to accept mail to domain literals for any of
its IP addresses. Not accepting domain literals can make it more
difficult to test your mailserver, and can prevent you from receiving
E-mail from people reporting problems with your mailserver. However,
it is unlikely that any problems will occur if the domain literals are
not accepted (mailservers at many common large domains have this
problem).

mxserver.mydomain.com's [EMAIL PROTECTED] response:
 RCPT TO:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
501 Syntax error in forward path

I have already created a domain alias [200.171.58.62] before this
report and has working fine with version 1.22, i using 1.23-pre08 now.

thanks

No problems with version 1.23-pre04 but after upgrade to 1.23-pre05 or
1.23-pre06 my applicattion filter are not executed.

filters.in.tab:

xmlog.tab (inside the folder filters):
c:\mailroot\xmlog\xmlog.exe @@FILE@@FROM@@RCPT
@@MSGID @@REMOTEADDR @@LOCALADDR

I have changed xmlog.tab to:
c:\mailroot\xmlog\xmlog.exe $(FILE) $(FROM)$(RCPT)
$(MSGID) $(REMOTEADDR) $(LOCALADDR)

With and without changes my filters are not executed, downgrade to
pre04 and working fine (with old @@).

each one is sent out seperately, especially if they're all going to an
external domain - the receiving server may have different restrictions.

In my personal opinion, I agree with this. Anyone sending to more than
100 recipients, particularly on a Bcc field, is most probably spamming
 or doing something else crazy...

Using a mailing list for that, is much more ideal, as only one message
gets sent, and then expanded to the hordes. It also makes it easier
for the recipient to decide on his receiving mail or not, rather than
manually maintaining the list. If this is done automatically, then you
should not be using outlook express at all...

As to the destination server having other limits, as per RFC, the
sending server must have the ability to take this into account, and
batch send e-mail as per allowed limits. As far as I know, XMail does
this, as I have never seen a problem with it, and I have one
particular server, where for testing purposes, we enforce a
simultaneous limit of only 2 e-mails.

My take on this matter is, the more resources you allow to a user, the
more they abuse it. Hence I actually have the X-Auth header on, to be
able to track who did something stupid with their e-mail. If you don't
like that policy, find another service.. .:)

  Hi,

  a) I try to send up to 100 address and receiving '552 Too many
  recipients'.
Its possible change the limit of recipients? or is a RFC violation? if
possible add new variable at server.tab in future version.

  b) I test my domain at www.dnsreport.com and receive the follow warning
  message:

   begin message *
WARNING: One or more of your mailservers is claiming to be a host
other than what it really is (the SMTP greeting should be a 3-digit
code, followed by a space or a dash, then the host name). If your
mailserver sends out E-mail using this domain in its EHLO or HELO,
your E-mail might get blocked by anti-spam software. This is also a
technical violation of RFC821 4.3 (and RFC2821 4.3.1). Note that the
hostname given in the SMTP greeting should have an A record pointing
back to the same server. Note that this one test may use a cached DNS
  record.

mx1.mydomain.com claims to be non-existent host

Its possible correct this using version 1.22 (configuration or other)
or only a new version with correction is required?
