The link works for me. I can download the CHM file. The file itself
doesn't seem to work correctly however. All I have is the index and not
the pages of data

 Davide Libenzi :
Armen, from Moscow, created a CHM file based on the XMail
documentation,
 in case you're interested:

 http://www.simonyan.ru/xmail/XMail.chm

Does not work here. May be because my system is in french ? I have the
index but get 404 pages when I click on the links.

[xmail] Domain Alias help

2007-07-16 Thread Edmonds, J.B.

If I use xmail to handle mail from two or more domains, should I use
aliasdomain.tab or Domains.tab. I cant tell from the docs.

Users are the same. Basically I want to have the same user set on
mydomain.com, mydomain.org, mydomain.net and mynewdomain.com and want
all the mail to be handled by xmail, coming to one email account on my
server.

How do people come up with, and keep current, their configurations for
greylisting.

I am specifically having problems with the 'xnet' settings staying
current.

Does someone keep a current list of subnets used by the larger mail
services?=3D20

I just got burned by yahoo groups using a subnet that I hadn't listed,
causing bounces and people getting dropped from the lists. Reacting
after people get dropped doesn't work well.

I get thousands of rejects a day, so I really can't manually scan for
them.

Anyone have a good way to keep up? Things to look for in the logs, or
queries to check?

[xmail] SMTPGW and SMTPFWD

2007-05-11 Thread Edmonds, J.B.
I am wondering if there is a way to tell if xmail is actually processing
correctly via these tab files.
I find that if I put gateway.isp.com as the outgoing mail server in
Microsoft Outlook, I get mail delivered to gmail. If I put:

gmail.com [tab] gateway.isp.com in SMPTFWD, or
gmail.com [tab] @gateway.isp.com in SMTPGW

The mail gets bounced. Same is true of aol.com and netzero.com. It
seems to me the results should be the same. What am I missing? (I have
SMPTAUTH set to login to the ISP.COM per the docs)

You very likely don't want to be using smtpgw.tab though, since it uses

[xmail] Re: Dynamic DNS

2007-05-01 Thread Edmonds, J.B.
Thanks for the reply. Haven't thought through it completely, your
suggestion might be a nice Xmail enhancement (option for bounced email
to be retried through another named relay server). I admit I'm not a
email expert but more of a general networking guy, but his sounds like
an interesting solution.

Looking back through the archives, I found that I am not alone. There
are lots of messages from people who don't understand the difference in
smtpgw.tab and smtpfwd.tab and don't know how to set them up (I'm still
struggling). There is no really good tutorial on relaying and
forwarding. That is more the problem than the docs for the tab files.
Now that all the big dogs are coming up with clever ways to keep SPAM
out, it is a challenge to get mail through legitimately. More and more
ISP are refusing to issue static IPs and that is a real problem for
business who run their own servers. The ISPs want the hosting business.

Doesn't get far enough to generate a log or do anything.

I copied the 1.22 xmail.exe file and the service starts perfectly.
Replace it with 1.24 and it fails. I have not seen any reports from

 Any suggestion or help

[xmail] Dynamic DNS and Relay

2007-04-27 Thread Edmonds, J.B.
I have identified a potential solution to my issue of email being
blocked because of Dynamic DNS but having some difficulty understanding
how to implement it in xmail

I can route all outgoing traffic through another mail server (relay),
however it requires me to authenticate (ID and Password). Can I set
this us in xmail? In reading the manual, I don't see where I can set
this up.

First thing to find out is if your ISP will allow you to relay for free.
Second thing is, if you use SPF records, then include your ISP outgoing
IP
address(es) in your SPF record.

Then if at least #1, then relay via ISP.
Those MTAs that deny mail from dynamic IPs, must not deny from the MTAs
of that ISP.

That's exactly my concern. I could be paying 3 cents per recipient to
have the mail relayed, just to have it blocked anyway since the
recipient's server does not allow relayed traffic from any source.=3D20

I am looking for a better solution.

Just notice that using a 'external' relay server (even if it is your =

So the relay provider or you will (on dns with spf record for spf =3D3D

[xmail] AOL and Netzero

2007-04-18 Thread Edmonds, J.B.
I know there have been discussions on this subject but I cant find them
in my archives.
I am getting mail bounced from AOL and Netzero. Appears to treat me as
SPAM and bounces the mail. I have reviewed all the documentation and I
don't use SMTPRELAY. My users are authenticated via Outlook.

Seems to me I remember that there are some setting to be changed or
entries to make in a tab file to make AOL, etc play nice.

Can someone help me out, or point me to the right place?

[xmail] XP Issue

2007-04-16 Thread Edmonds, J.B.
This past week I built up a new Windows XP workstation and decided to
move my Xmail server to it. I am running 1.22 and installed 1.24. I
moved or re-created my TAB files, etc. When I went to install the
service and run it, I get an error message that the program failed to
load. Thinking I had a bad executable, I downloaded the files again and
replaced all of the EXE and DLL files in \bin directory. Same error.
Doesn't get far enough to generate a log or do anything.

I copied the 1.22 xmail.exe file and the service starts perfectly.
Replace it with 1.24 and it fails. I have not seen any reports from
others with this problem.

Any suggestion or help

I just got done deploying it - it's VERY straightforward, and the
results have been nothing short of spectacular. We now deliver less
than 10% of the SPAM that used to get through.

Put the files into a single dir. I made one called glst, and put it in
mailroot.

On Windows, don't worry about the database for glst. It takes care of
the creation and management of the database. it will be in the same dir
as the glist.exe. (Make sure the folder has appropriate write
permissions) Its important that you create a regular AT (scheduled) job
to run the database cleanup periodically. The glist instructions
describe the glist.exe switch you need to use pretty well.

Look at the file filters.pre.data.tab, and make required edits so that
the data in there is correct for your system.
!aextabX:/path to glist folder/glsttab --mfile @@FILE
in order to be recognized, the filters.pre.data.tab must be in mailroot
dir.

glst.conf stays in the glist folder, but should be customized as you see
fit. See the documentation for explanations of settings.
Here is our conf file. Thanks to at least three other folks on this
list for sharing much of these settings, and making our work much
easier.

Hope this helps!

feel I've missed a little. I use a Windows mail server. I understand
the operation and concepts except the database. I can find any real

database? If so (or not) where is it located? Does it have to have a
specific name or do you specify that somewhere.. I've gotten my conf
 file set up.

Basically, I would like to know what steps you follow once you've
 downloaded the files

I started this thread so I will jump in. =20

A good AV solution is the first line of defense. Many organizations
also block executables and scripts to catch new viruses that have not
been added to definitions. The porn issue is a good one I suppose but
wasn't the reason for the request.

My question really was: IF a company wanted to block specific file
types such as excel spreadsheets (xls), is there an existing filter-in
solution that addresses it. I am capable of writing the filter. It is
actually quite simple but why re-invent the wheel?

Tell that to M$, newer versions of outlook and outlook express do just

that and there is no way to turn it off.

I suspect there is a way to turn it off. Either a registery hack or
setting
somewhere. Outlook, particularly, is pretty customizable if you know
what
you're doing with it.

However, the issue isn't client software. There is no reason to block
attachments if you have a good antivirus solution in place. I find Peter
Lindeman's solution in conjunction with ClamAV does a great job.

Same Problem. Only two solutions I can think of is for Psync to get all

Going after specific ones creates the problem. Alternative is to sync,
then delete all remaining email so that at the end of the sync the
external mailbox is empty. Maybe a DELETE ALL command at the end of

[xmail] newbie pop sync question

2002-12-03 Thread Edmonds, J.B.
A newbie question. (new to Xmail but not to mail software). I am
having problems understand the documentation.

This question is about pop sync so you may not have to read further.

I don't know how exactly to do the following:

1.I have 5 users on my domain. [EMAIL PROTECTED], etc

2.mydomain.com is hosted by myisp.com

3.My ISP redirects all mydomain.com mail to a mailbox
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

4.I dial in and collect all of the email from that account mailbox.

5.The mail box has all mail addressed to mydomain.com and also
[EMAIL PROTECTED].

I need to collect user1, user2, etc and put on my xmail server.

I need to redirect [EMAIL PROTECTED] to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I need to handle other aliases also.

I am struggling with the documentation as how to do this. Can someone
give me some specifics or point me to some configuration examples?
