Hello, Did anyone write a Windows program to handle SMTP errors? Such a program can be a plugin to XMAIL, or be run separately on a = folder with messages, and identifies error messages, such as: __ [<00>] XMail bounce: [EMAIL PROTECTED];Error=3D[550 Requested = action not taken: mailbox unavailable] [<01>] Error sending message [1091455761310.3216.6a39.xmail] from = [mail.somedomain.test]. Davide, in the case where xmail emits an error - **other than** smail/smtp/filter/etc log files... Where does Xmail write errors like "file missing on return from filter"?? I know in sendmail this is written to the maillog. In debug mode it might write to screen, but that information is lost if not seen before it scrolls off the screen. I'm just thinking of Filip's bad filter and other possible situations where Xmail cannot deliver the email - therefore it is not logged to the individual log files -> there is no additional info available to the person investigating, without perhaps running a JIT debugger or something. Hi. The past few days I occationally have gotten two different errors in my NT application event log saying: The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( XMail ) could not be found. It contains the following insertion string(s): Invalid spool file --or-- The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( XMail ) could not be found. It contains the following insertion string(s): LMAIL [01] error ( "Invalid spool file" ): E:\mailroot\spool\local\10340276-001.203.gwyn. I suspect these are caused by some filters/mproc I am testing, but it would be nice to know exactly what's causing the errors. The latter one, I believe are gone now though, atleast it haven't shown up anymore after I discovered tha I couldn't drop a message into spool/local with MAIL FROM == RCPT TO (an XMail feature or bug ;=) The first excerpt I belive come from a filter giving a 100 exitcode after modifying the message. What I do here is taking apart the message + some header mucking and then sticking the XMail spool specific header back on top again. What's making it odd is that it only happens about once or twice a day. oh btw, I am running 1.10/NT4sp6 Anyone any clues ?! /thomas. - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe xmail" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For general help: send the line "help" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hay Pavel As Davide said in response to one of my questions, you can use a generic alias !! As xmail first search for real accounts and then aliased accounts you can use an alias "*" to pass messages to an mailbox. In your case, (as an example) add this entry in the aliases.tab file : "atomstroyexport"[TAB]"*"[TAB]"postmaster"[CRLF] remplace postmaster with the mailbox you want receive 'no existing account' messages. [xmail] Error message in W2k Log
Hello, I just noticed that the eventlog in the W2k Server running XMail 1.17 is filled with "Filter Error (-121)" messages. It looks like every email going through generates an error message like below: Filter error (-121): Sender = "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" Recipient = "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" Filter = "chk-attch" Has anybody an idea? Hi all. I've recently upgraded to 1.22. Only one issue which is when XMail sends an error message. After upgrading to 1.12 over the weekend, today I'm getting bounced email from all gems#.gov.bc.ca addresses (# = 1 to 8), but all other addresses are fine. [xmail] Error messages returned to sender replicated
Hi everyone - Running XMail 1.22 my users have been reporting that "No server found" errors are coming back in duplicate. The mails all come in after "The maximum number of delivery attempts has been reached" and the user receives a separate email for each failed delivery attempt, rather than one email containing all of the failures (which is the expected behavior, right?). Right now I have XMail set to try 10 times, so there seem to be 10 emails that are sent to notify the sender of the failure. It was set to 40, and in that case the user was receiving 40 (or so) emails. I have not verified that the number of returns is always exactly the same as the retry setting, but it is at least somewhat close. Has anyone seen this behavior? I am trying to verify if it is only my Exchange users that have this problem - XMail is running on FreeBSD, but a number of Exchange users send through it as shown: Exchange -> ASSP (anti-spam proxy) ->XMail -> Internet - the problem definitely happens with this flow or Email client -> ASSP -> XMail -> Internet - the problem has not been verified yet with this flow Thanks, Jeff - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe xmail" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For general help: send the line "help" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[xmail] Error reports rewrite (was part of Re: 1.25-pre16)
On a previous thread on error reports/bounce rewrite, I suggested a simple implementation : Each time Xmail have to send a bounce/ndr/... it searchs for a text = file in a subdir (/errors/ ?) : - if it found a ABC.txt file with ABC =3D=3D error code, use its = content as start of the mail/error report - if not, find a more generic file AB.txt (like 52.txt for 52x errors) = and if found , use its content as start of the mail/error report - if not, find a more generic file A.txt (like 5.txt for 5xx errors) = and if found , use its content as start of the mail/error report - if none is found, use a generic.txt file if exist as start of the mail/error report - if none found, use none :) Finally append 'standard xmail' infos at bottom. Simple and fast no ? Future enhancements could be the use of macros in the text files to = insert original infos, like sender, receiver, real final, send host name or = ip, ... (use same macros as filters ? so little code to write ?)
