Re: [Xpert]ATI Mach 64 (Winturbo 2mb, PCI) with more than 256 colors?
Hello Harald, i have the above card together with a voodoo 3 AGP card in my computer using x-free 4.1.0. Unfortunately i can't use xinerama because x-module ati does not support more than 8 bits color depth with this board. Is there any beta driver or any other module which supports more than 256 colors. If xinerama would be used, both cards must have the same depth and resolution. Voodoo driver does not support color depth 8 (256 colors). Any Idea? What resolution and depth are you trying to run on your ATI board that doesn't work? Note that you only have memory on the card to run 1024x768 in depth 16, or 800x600 in depth 24. /Pontus -- Pontus Lidman Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Nokia Home Communications Phone: +46 (0)13 4611201 Diskettgatan 11 Fax: +46 (0)13 4611001 583 35 Linköping, Sweden ___ Xpert mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xpert

[Xpert]Mode selection
Hi, I use Toshiba Portege 4000 which has a Trident CyberBlade XP/Ai (or something like that) graphics chip that works only with the vesa driver in XFree86 4.1.0. It works fine with the internal TFT display. However, when I define my external monitor in the XF86Config with the correct refresh ranges, X doesn't go for higher rates than 60 Hz. I know my monitor can do at least 85 Hz at 1024x768 resolution, and it works fine with my desktop computer. Is there something wrong with the vesa driver or my laptop? I can manually insert modes in the monitor section in the config file but when I force it to use any of those modes it always goes to 1280x1024 resolution with 87 Hz, even when the modeline says for example 1024x768 resolution and 76 Hz... Now am I seriously stupid or is there something seriously wrong? BR, Teemu ___ Xpert mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xpert

Dear Experts, Since the performance of the siliconmotion driver in XFree86 4.1.0 is so poor (e.g. for playing videos), I've installed the 4.1.99.5 version (with v1.3.1 siliconmotion driver) from CVS. I need to power down the pc with the button! I suppose it is a X/DRI configutration problembecouse all the people who manage to run games use slck or debian: I think mandrake has sonthing wrong in 3D libraries configuration, something that comes out using SiS drivers. Can someone help me debugging this mess? What files do I need and where MUST I put them? I've got an opportunity to buy a 22 1920x1440 monitor at a very good price, and I want to know: What video card will support virtual 3200x200 @x 32bpp under XFree86 (presumably 4.1)? I _really_ like running XFree86 with large virtual screens -- as I write, I'm running virtual 2048x1536 on a physical 1280x1024 and I find that has really enhanced my productivity. That's the largest I can get to run on my (nVidia-based) system (in spite of 64M of video RAM, which should support much larger screens); moreover, according to comments at nVidia's web-site, it is the largest _physical_ screen the cards will support in hardware and I'm guessing the nVidia drivers limit themselves by that... In the XFree86 documentation, all I can find is a remark that some virtual display sizes are not available for some hardware drivers and no indication what the limits are, on a driver-by-driver basis (without doing an RTFS on the entire source code base). -- Carlie J. [Xpert]Best card for dual screen?
I'm about to do an upgrade on my desktop machine and need to pick a video card. What would people recommend for a dual screen (one CRT, one flat TFT now, perhaps two TFTs later) under Linux? Additional info: There will be plenty of CPU and RAM in the machine. For my eyes, on screens I can afford, resolutions beyond 1400*1050 or so are not useful. Applications are mostly web, text editing, testing, some DVDs ... Some gaming, likely Win4lin. No video editing or 3D simulation. I'd prefer an Open Source driver, but would be prepared to pay for one of the commercial accelerated X packages if that gets features I cannot otherwise have. [Xpert]i815 overlay output revisited

I get the Xv output centered in the output window when using: i810Reg-OverlayActiveStart = mode-CrtcHTotal + 104; i810Reg-OverlayActiveEnd = mode-CrtcHDisplay + 104; The chipset is identified as Intel i815 rev 4 by the PCI scan, and I'm working with the 4.1.99.4 CVS head. This leads me to believe that the initialization of these registers is probably not taking all necessary parameters into consideration. At this stage, however, I'm not familiar enough with the guts of the i815 overlay engine to come up with any good suggestions on how to fix it. [Xpert]Xfree 4.1.0 on Dell Latitude C600 with Solaris 8 for Intel
I have a Dell C600 with a ATI Rage 128 M3 Mobility. I am running Solaris 8 for Intel, and have tried numerous settings in my XF86Config file, but have been unable to get my X server to start.
