How about defining your default DB backup to be on virtual volumes at the offsite
location.
Run a full backup at a convenient time when there's not much activity, and then daily
incrementals.
Run a db snapshot daily to local media.

I used a 'reg lic file=50mssyslan.lic number=20' trying to get 1000
clients license. I then did a 'query license' and it told me I only had 50
clients licensed. I think there is something messed up with the licensing
for version 4.2.1.

Thank you, I found an addendum to the manual that does show the option.
I changed the setting, and now get one step further, but still get an error.
saying there are 0 drives and 0 slots. I think that qualstar also changed
the element numbering, and figure this might be the cause.

will tell the nodes on a tape. If you move the data on the volume, it will
separate the nodes, if collocation is on. If the volume has multiple nodes
on it, just do a move data to the same storage pool.

The section you are reading about is for Oracle 8.0.x. Is this the Oracle
level you are running on? Try creating the link like mentioned in the
8.1.x section. I don't think it is even necessary to run the link command,
although you may have to.

My TSM Proliant NT4.0 Sp6 server was running fine until Monday.
Since then it has slowed down each night by around 30% and is causing many
problems.
The hardware and operating system seem fine.
TSM has been checked and I can't see anything obvious wrong. No changes were
made to parameters.

Functionally 3.1 or above will work with LTO. Just define it as generic
tape. It is really just another SCSI device to ADSM.
LTO libraries performing with ADSM as designed at any level is questionable.

I had the same problem.
In your command file that runs the backup, take out the reference to
"LOGGEDONLY"
That worked for me as I was not using transaction logging.

Separate the long transactions in the ADSM database (DB2 backup, HUGE files)

The db volumes I created after the unloadb/loaddb I don't have any problem
to delete thru the del volh type=dbb todate=today-X.

To delete you volh volumes for DBB you must have another FULL DB backup.
the command 'del volh type=dbb todate=today' deletes all DBB volumes EXCEPT
the LAST FULL backup db.
So, do another backup db type=full on your recently-compressed-db and
you will be able to delete your old DBB.

If one file fails (e.g. it's in use by another proccess), the schedule
returns with a result code of 4.
