Just to jump in here we have a zte gpon shelf in our lab, they do have a
management system that can fully manage a multiple shelfs. If this is your
first go around with a vendor I would highly suggest reaching out to them, its
worth paying for the support.

I know this is not what you want to hear and its not on the side of affordable

make sure you turn off any auto duplex and speed settings and hard set both
sides. make sure your also checking all your stp settings those could be fun

on the access side where you might have issues with stp is if your customer is
then connecting to a cisco switch these stp messages between equipment can get
funny and start shutting off ports because one side supports it and the other
doesn't. you'll go crazy locating these issues.
you need to get the consumer connect product from calix for it to be worth it.
It's the management portion that really makes it shine.

make sure if this equipment is in anyway outside use I-TEMP rated optics. it's
a good way to go bald troubleshooting, if the gear is anyway in a location that
fluctuates in temp.

I'm sure most providers can provide this service for a fee. Typically you
would have one provider into each of the routers and do ibgp between them while
doing ebgp with your upstreams. I'd also recommend doing some sort of hsrp /
vrrp to protect your customer gateway ips.

This is very true and if you dig into the large publicly traded colo companies
you will find out there money isn’t really made off of space and power it’s
made from the xconnects between cages. We pay 10x more in xconnects then we do
in space and power.
