Although the user-mode drivers use kernel features such as pppd and usb
they in themsleves shouldn't panic the kernel (thats half the point of them
being user-mode).
A kernel-panic is definatly a kernel problem (even if it is triggered by
the user-mode code).

It could just be me but when I search for cookfire stuff on the Mandrake
site all I come across is this mailing list. I have a few quick questions
if you could indulge..
1. If I rsync cookfire can I create ISO's ala the normal cooker method
2. Does cookfire mirror cooker (same lib dependancies?)

Having just restarted my adsl link after 15 days of uniterrupted service I
came across a problem with the adsl start script. Basically Ihadn't copied
the config values into it so it failed to start adsl. This is going to be a
problem for packages upgrading as config data will be lost if the

I wonder if there are any strange escape values in the file you downloaded.
What version of ppp are you running?

Is it worth doing another snapshot release of the code, and possibly
putting a version number to it. Are there actually any issues that stop us
putting out a 1.0 (or even 0.1) release and declaring it ready for public

Mmm, your using the kernel-mode drivers? wrong list I'm afraid. The user-

I'm no BSD guru so this may well be wrong. Does BSD have a /etc/chap/peers/
equivilent or is all authentication stored on the ppp config file?

Let me know once you have tried the alternate driver/hardware/system tests

Hi all,
Does anyone know of a firewall-on-a-floppy (FoF) that

Not directly. However Smoothwall is a Firewall on a CD but will require
